Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Miele Canada enters the robot vacuum cleaner market No Spot Escapes: Setting new standards thanks to Smart Navigation and Non-Stop Power Toronto, October 22 – Miele Canada, the global expert in floor care, is set to launch its first robovac, the new Scout RX1. Equipped with Smart Navigation, the Scout RX1 provides excellent cleaning performance, longlasting charge and durability of its lithium-ion battery pack. Navigation The new high-performance Scout RX1 uses a systematic navigation system to methodically clean an area in parallel tracks rather than randomly criss-crossing the room, a more common approach adopted by the majority of models that use chaotic navigation. The Scout RX1’s systematic navigation system achieves more reliable coverage, saves time, and conserves battery power to boot. Furthermore, complex floor plans involving several rooms can be vacuumed in their entirety, involving return trips to the base upon completion of the task and for recharging. Miele Smart Navigation relies on a gyro sensor which measures rotation and changes in direction. This alone would be sufficient to systematically clean a room; however, the Scout RX1 also has a built-in high-quality digital camera which scans the ceiling of the room several times a minute to ensure additional precision. The interplay of gyro sensor and ceiling-scanning camera ensures that the perimeters of various room layouts and difficult-to-access areas are cleaned without gaps. The Miele robovac is also equipped with seven infra-red sensors on the front of the unit which scan the 180° area ahead of the machine in order to avoid collisions with furniture and other obstacles. In contrast to most other common systems on the market, these infra-red sensors stop the vacuum cleaner in good time, before a collision occurs. Furthermore, three sensors below the unit prevent the Scout RX1 from falling down stairs. Filtration A key highlight of the Scout RX1 is the Triple Cleaning System, a three-stage process that guarantees effective cleaning. In this process, two long rotating side brushes target difficult areas along the walls of rooms or items of furniture and sweep dirt towards the centre of the unit. Once there, a removable beater bar picks up coarser particles while a fan transports the finer dust into the dust box. This container has a capacity of 0.6 litres and can be removed at the touch of the button. The AirClean filter eliminates dust and particles to ensure clean room air.   Programming Four cleaning programmes guarantee maximum cleaning convenience: In 'Auto' mode, the unit travels through all rooms. 'Spot' mode is intended for a defined area of at most 1.80 metres square— for example, to clean up crumbs from under the breakfast table. In 'Corner' mode, all rooms are first cleaned in 'Auto' before returning to clean all edge areas once again. For particularly fast cleaning, Miele offers its ‘Turbo’ mode in which the robovac cleans the entire home but travels in straight lines with greater spacing. In this case, cleaning is somewhat more thorough than in 'Auto' mode but takes half as long.  Overall, a battery charge is able to clean an area of up to 150 m², equivalent to the duration of approximately 120 minutes. When cleaning larger areas, the unit pauses to return to its base for recharging (approx. 2 hours), as necessary. Following a recharge, the robovac automatically resumes at the precise point where cleaning was interrupted earlier. The battery maintains the capacity of a new unit even after 300 recharging cycles. With this combination of battery charge and battery life expectancy, Miele currently represents the benchmark for longevity in the robovac market. Performance The Scout RX1 has good traction on all common floor coverings and is able to adjust to height differences of up to 2 cm to navigate over thresholds and the edges of rugs. Rooms or areas which are to be excluded from cleaning can be cordoned off with a magnetic strip. The Scout RX1 can be turned on manually, with the controls on the robovac unit; remotely, using the control handset; or programmed by pre-setting the timer to start and finish at specific times. Design The design of the Miele robovac is both high-quality and elegant. The control display area subtly contrasts with the black background of the unit creating a sleek appearance. A rear-printed plastic insert on the top of the machine further underlines the neat overall impression. The Scout RX1 is available for purchase in Canada now exclusively on miele.ca, or by visiting one of the Miele Centres [Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver & Calgary].
