Built to play “We took a good look at what gamers need and how we can best meet those needs,” explained Robert Schwarz, product developer at Teufel. As with all products from the Berlin audio company, sound was the top priority. Linear playback with a high degree of precision and naturalness was therefore the main focal point in the headset’s acoustic development. To this end, ultra-light drivers with excellent impulse fidelity were placed within identically sized ear capsules. The range of gamer-friendly features includes a flexible microphone that attaches to either the left or right side of the headset and smart echo cancellation technology for recording speech in pristine sound quality. A microphone at the end of the mic’s arm and a second near the ear capsule record speech at slightly different intervals and use this information to filter out unpleasant echoes and background noises. No sweat When the virtual battlefield heats up, it helps to keep a cool head. That’s why CAGE employs spacious ear capsules with special ventilation ducts. These circulate air around the ears while maintaining the headset’s excellent noise isolating properties. Generous cushioning ensures that no pressure points build up, even if the wearer uses glasses or during marathon gaming sessions. CAGE combines this high level of comfort with an incredibly robust build: The adjustable headband is made from super-light spring steel, the striking gunmetal grey hinges were fashioned from anodized aluminium. Useful features at your fingertips CAGE connects to PCs and PlayStations via USB cable and to the Xbox and all other devices via mini jack. The two connections can even be used at once in the headsets’ mixed audio mode: Feed gaming sound to CAGE via USB and music from a smartphone or MP3 player via mini jack. This mixed audio function makes it possible to create a personal soundtrack to a favourite game or take a call without interrupting the action. On-device controls include a mic toggle switch (USB/mini jack), mic on/mute, volume dial and single button control for taking calls, skipping tracks, pausing and playing music. All control elements can be identified by touch for sightless operation. A sound card integrated into the headset ensures lossless, low noise and highly dynamic playback. It’s also superior to the onboard chips found in many PCs and notebooks. Lefty or righty? CAGE has a completely symmetrical construction, allowing the user to wear the ear cup with control elements on the left or right side. The stereo channels adjust automatically.
