Press release Gigaset market studies: Hands free for multitasking Vast majority of users do other things while talking on the phone Munich, April 12, 2011 – More and more people do a wide variety of other things while talking on the phone, and they want to keep their hands free. Market studies conducted by Gigaset Communications, the European market leader for cordless phones, show that around two-thirds (66 percent) of those surveyed now use their phone’s handsfree feature. 12 percent use a headset. The preferred activities while phoning include cooking, ironing, housework and surfing in the Internet, according to the survey, which was conducted to coincide with the launch of the new Gigaset L410 Handsfree Clip.
The respondents who use a handsfree function rated its practical benefits so highly that they make 38 percent of their calls without holding a handset. Only a very few would want to dispense with the convenience this function offers: 94 percent of those surveyed stated that the handsfree function will be on their list of priorities the next time they buy a phone.
Complete freedom of movement at home and in the office is growing in importance as more and more people want to have their hands free to do the many chores they handle while making a call: 79 percent do not just phone. 29 percent cook or work in the kitchen while phoning, while just as many do the ironing, straighten up or do other light housework. s27 percent surf in the Internet or otherwise work on their PC – all tasks where people need their hands and must be able to move around freely.
As a consequence of changes in user behavior and the growing importance of multitasking, Gigaset is now launching an innovative product. The Gigaset L410 Handsfree Clip combines the advantages of the phone’s handsfree feature with those of a headset – complete freedom of movement during calls, good sound quality, ease of use, and all that without cables or the irritation of wearing a headset.
30 percent of the headset users questioned by Gigaset said that wearing the earphone was “annoying, irritating or uncomfortable,” while 20 percent said they were bothered by the

headset’s cable. Both of them are now a thing of the past with the Gigaset L410. Thanks to its light weight, the Gigaset L410 can be attached to clothing with its stable clip. The powerful, high-quality loudspeaker enables calls in perfect voice quality.
The Gigaset L410 is registered at the base station just like any other cordless phone and can then be used to take incoming calls at the touch of a button. The battery of the Gigaset L410 offers a talk time of up to five hours. Since they make their calls at home, most respondents were not troubled by the fact that someone else might overhear what they were saying. 31 percent of them even phone occasionally with other family members or friends using the handsfree feature.
Gigaset Communications conducted the market research in two phases between September 2010 and February 2011. A representative selection made up of about 600 cordless phone users was surveyed.
