Press release 100% foodsafe* – Konica Minolta digital print systems certified by TÜV Rheinland Langenhagen, Germany, February 2011 The environmental sustainability of Konica Minolta’s Simitri HD and HD+ toner technology has been demonstrated yet again. In all, five PRESS and PRO series printers passed tests carried out by TÜV Rheinland LGA Products GmbH of Cologne and were certified as complying with the criteria catalogue for printed paper that comes into contact with food. Printouts on special paper from the bizhub PRESS C6000, PRESS C7000/P and PRESS C8000 and from the bizhub PRO C6000 and PRO C7000 can safely come into contact with food. For both existing and future customers, this presents an opportunity for new applications for these solutions in the food industry, e.g. in package printing. “Simitri HD green toner technology, available since 2010 in its third generation as Simitri HD+, has again proved not only to deliver extraordinary high quality printouts but also to be 100% foodsafe,” says Karl-Friedrich Edenhuizen, Product Manager Production Printing Group at Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe. “Next to the printers and the paper they use, Simitri HD toner is the single most important factor in creating a system that complies with the strict standards for food contact.” The food contact certificate was issued for the bizhub PRESS C6000, C7000/P and PRESS C8000 as well as for the bizhub PRO C6000 and C7000 using Simitri HD toner. Professionals who already own one of these systems or are planning to buy one can be sure that their printouts – be they revenue stamps or food packaging – are 100% foodsafe. Looking at package printing, the certified bizhubs offer a real alternative to offset solutions. * According to the criteria tested 1 Major credit for earning the certificate belongs to Konica Minolta’s very own Simitri HD and HD+ toner technology. Its first generation went on sale in 2001. In 2006 the more advanced Simitri HD toner offering low temperature fusing and higher image quality was released. Today’s Simitri HD and HD+ toner particles are smaller and have a uniform shape, delivering fine lines and small text with clear contours. By including wax in the toner, oil-free fixing has been realised, bringing vivid colours. Simitri HD’s manufacturing process is eco-friendly, reducing the generation of CO2. Since their launch, Konica Minolta’s polymerised toners have consisted of almost 10% biomass, such as plant-based material. As the biomass contents of this toner absorb CO2 before becoming raw materials, the amount of CO2 emitted will be equal to the amount bound. With the bizhub PRESS C8000 now certified, Konica Minolta is strengthening its position in the digital production area, e.g. in package printing for the food industry. The same is true for the PRESS C8000’s sister products bizhub PRESS C6000 and bizhub PRESS C7000/P. The reasons for choosing these systems include their high image quality and definition, which almost reach offset print quality. Furthermore, they impress potential customers with high speed and use of a wide variety of print media. For professionals in search of a very compact solution, the bizhub PRO C6000 and bizhub PRO C7000 are excellent choices when it comes to foodsafe production printing. Both systems combine extensive media flexibility with a versatile range of in-line finishing capabilities. “We are very proud that our high quality Simitri HD and HD+ toner received the certificate. Along with other applications, this enables our customers to create printouts for food packaging,” adds Karl-Friedrich Edenhuizen. “Once again, Konica Minolta has shown that it is possible to combine environmental sustainability, advanced technology and major benefits for our customers in one superior product. Among these benefits, health and safety standards are the most important. We are the partner of choice for industries in need of such comprehensive capabilities.” 2 Press photos The flagship model of Konica Minolta’s PRESS family, the bizhub PRESS C8000, is one of five systems that were certified by TÜV Rheinland to be 100% foodsafe.
