Introducing a new range of Olympus voice recorders that will suit everyone from students to business users
SYDNEY – 8 FEBRUARY 2012 Olympus has today announced three new voice recorder ranges for the Australian market.
The Olympus DP-211 a Natural Fit for Analogue Users Looking to Convert to a Digital Recorder Just like its predecessor, the Olympus DP-211 maintains the same sense of convenience and ease-of-use of analogue recorders, but provides even more memory, enhanced battery life and a larger LCD screen. The Olympus DP-211 boasts a 1.7-inch LCD screen, allowing display content to be viewed easily, and large function buttons to make recording effortless. Extended Recording, Powerful Battery Life, Simple Design The Olympus DP-211 takes on a large increase in both recording time and battery life. With over 200 hours of recording time on 2GB of internal memory, users will have the ability to record everything they need with no fear of running out of space. The battery life is also increased to host a powerful 80 hours on two AAA batteries. The Calendar Search feature makes it simpler to find audio files by organizing them according to recording date. Staying true to the simple design of the Olympus DP series, the Olympus DP211’s “Play,” “Stop” and “Record” buttons are easily accessible and colourcoordinated for enhanced ease-of-use. The DP-211 enables fast and slow playback with the “Rewind” and “Fast-Forward” buttons and also has a clearly marked “Erase” button to prevent accidental data loss. The large front speaker and volume control allows the user to hear files during playback with ease. The Olympus DP-211 captures high-quality audio with the Noise Cancellation and Microphone Sense Setting. These two features allow background noises to be eliminated and stabilizes soft or loud sounds.

Record and retrieve as you please Up to 1000 files can be stored across five folders and each new Olympus model boasts exceptional recording time capabilities – up to 34 days with 2GB internal memory. The VN-712PC additionally incorporate a microSD Card slot to extend capacity even further. To help find files quickly and easily, a new Calendar Search function has been added (VN-712PC). It lets users locate files simply via the recording date, and a dedicated file search button makes it mere child’s play to invoke this feature. Furthermore, up to 99 index marks can be set in all models to flag important places in individual recordings. Convenience meets performance For top recording quality, all models feature a best-of-breed integrated low noise microphone, which delivers a high S/N ratio. All models can save files in WMA format, which is most efficient file type when it comes to data compression. The VN-712PC can additionally save in mp3 format to enhance all-round flexibility. During playback, a clever Voice Filter (VN-712PC) improves the sound quality of human voice and variable playback speed control means users can make adjustments to suit their personal listening preferences. Thanks to their high signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, recordings made by the Olympus WS-811, WS-812 and WS-813 are splendidly pure. Many pro features also join the list in these very reasonably priced units. The freshly redesigned WS-811, WS-812 and WS-813 are true multi-function devices that combine a stereo recorder with USB stick and mp3 player functionality. High quality audio recording Whether recording meetings, lectures or personal notes, users can be assured of first class results. An improved stereo microphone captures sound in highest quality and with an excellent S/N ratio – with the WS-813 also featuring a special range adjustable Zoom Microphone function. Their low noise and high sensitivity attributes together with a new high-performance audio codec mean these models are ideal for recording the human voice. In addition, the Noise Cancel feature ensures unwanted background sounds are minimised. A further benefit for users is the integrated Voice Playback technology (WS-812 and WS813), which distinguishes the human voice from other sounds so that non-voice portions are skipped and only those with voice are played back. Fluctuating sound levels because of soft or loud voices, or due to people speaking from various distances from the microphone, are balanced out by the Voice Balancer function in the WS-812 & WS-813. The top two models of this trio also allow recording levels to be set manually to ensure complete user control. Files can be saved in mp3 or WMA format – with the WS-812 and WS-813 also boasting the pureness of PCM file format for equal-to-CD sound quality recording. Boosting efficiency The new WS models are all about helping to simplify users’ day-to-day life and raise their effectiveness. That’s why Olympus has revamped the physical design along with the user interface to make operation easier and more enjoyable than ever. But that’s not all; Files can now be located more easily due to the Calendar Search function. This allows recordings to be found via the date they were created. Scanning through and listening to the files is also made more comfortable and fast due to playback speeds up to 3.5x quicker than normal (2x speed on the WS-811). Recordings may also be played back using the Voice Changer feature (WS-812 and WS-813) that lets the frequency and playback speed of voice to be adjusted to suit individual needs and preferences. And to support effective organisation, files can be easily moved across folders following recording (WS-812 and WS-813). When the work is done and it’s time to relax, users can listen to audio files saved in memory thanks to the music playback function. Furthermore, the WS-813 also incorporates an FM radio. Flexibility to suit your needs The Olympus WS-811, WS-812 and WS-813 incorporate ample internal memory of 2, 4 and 8GB, respectively. For those wishing to extend memory and recording times further, each model also boasts a handy microSD Card slot enabling up to 32GB of additional storage capacity. An integrated USB port is also on board to provide USB stick functionality and facilitate the fast and easy transfer of files directly to and from a computer. Battery life has been extended so that recording can go on and on. Thanks to the new sub-CPU and audio codec, power consumption is reduced by around 8% allowing 27 hours or more of recording with a single AAA-type alkaline battery.
