Logging in to Your New Student Portal With a single sign-on to your Student Portal, you will have around-the-clock access to your courses, your teachers, and important school information in one convenient location. To access the student portal, visit http://learn.nndsonline.org. Enter your username and password and click Login.
In your Student Portal dashboard, you can view your attendance and see upcoming events. You can also find your teacher’s contact information. Selecting a course from the Academic Snapshot section of the dashboard takes you directly to the learning management system (LMS).

You will be taken directly to the course you selected, and to the location you last visited within that course. There is no need to enter your username and password a second time. You only need to sign on once.

Navigating an EK-‐2 Course Navigating your course is easy and fun! The first thing you may want to do is create an avatar. To make an avatar, click on Avatar Creator and follow the instructions.
You will be able to change the hair, face, clothes, and accessories of your avatar. Click Save and Quit when you are done. The following are examples of the types of avatars you can make:
Making an avatar is fun, and you can change it at any time by clicking the Avatar Creator link.

To return to the dashboard after creating your avatar, click the Home button at the top of the page.
To begin exploring your course, click the big play button under the course you want to access.
Your course will open on its first page, or it will open to the last item you accessed for which you received a green check mark (ü), which means the item is complete.

When you are navigating through the course, use the directional arrows at the top right of the screen to move to the next section of that lesson. You can go back to the previous screen using the back arrow.
As a student, you may watch videos, play games, and listen to stories.

When you encounter a video, wait for it load, and then click the play button in the center of the screen.
Depending upon your Internet speed, a video may take some time to load, so please be patient. If you need to pause a video while you are watching it, you may click the pause button.

To turn off the audio for a video, select the mute button.
You may adjust a video’s sound using the sound adjustment bar.
You can also make the video full screen by using the full screen button on the bottom right side of the video player. You may stop the full screen action by pressing the Escape key (ESC) on

your keyboard.
When you encounter a game, click on the play button to begin the game.
Follow along with game instructions as they are read to you. After you have heard or have read the instructions, you may begin playing a game by clicking Start.

When you finish playing a game, your score will be presented to you. You may attempt to play the game again to gain a higher score.

In your lessons, you will need to read course material, to watch videos, to work on homework, and to play games that help you to learn the course material.

To make the video full screen, click the full screen button in the bottom right corner of the video player.
When you encounter a game, click Start to launch the game.

Carefully listen to or read the game’s instructions. When you are ready to begin the game, click Start.
If you are not happy with your score at the end of a game, you may play the game again to try for a higher score.

Guide Resources As a Guide, you serve an important role in the education of your student. Each lesson your student completes will feature a corresponding section in the Guide Resources section. These resources contain the same information the student sees, in addition to information intended specifically for Guides. In order to find Guide Resources, you (as a Guide) must be logged in and viewing the course in which you wish to access these resources. When your student is logged in, he or she cannot see Guide Resources. When you are viewing the course, you will see the Guide Resources folder in the left navigation menu.
All of the information that is specific to Guides may be found in the yellow boxes in Guide Resources. The boxes fall into several categories, as follows: • • •

Scroll down the page to the Explanation for the Guide section and review the information provided.
This area contains information specific to the lesson covered, and it will explain how the student should go about completing assignments and tasks for this lesson. You should carefully review this information to make sure your student is on the right track. Continue to scroll down the page and locate the Directions for the Guide section.

This area will explain to you how your student should go about completing activities. It will also contain information that your student might find helpful while performing his or her assignments and assessments. Continue to scroll down the page to find the Answer Key section for all homework activities in the Guide Resources.
You can use these answer keys to make sure you student understands an assignment before he or she moves on to the next lesson.

Uploading Assignments Sometimes you will need to complete a piece of homework or an assignment that requires you to upload your finished project. This process may be completed in your course, and it is easy to do. The first step of uploading an assignment depends on your teacher’s submission preferences. If the assignment must be scanned in order to be turned into a digital file, you must complete this process to upload your assignment. Click the Scan It icon at the top of the page.
Follow the instructions for scanning provided by the manufacturer of your scanner. If you need help, ask your parents or your teacher.

You should ensure that your assignment is scanned in the format required by your teacher before you upload it.
If you have scanned your assignment, or if it is already loaded onto your computer, you can open a dialogue box to upload the assignment to the course by clicking Open.

In the window that appears, click the Choose File button.
After you have clicked this button, another window will open in which you can find the file you wish to upload. Make sure the file you select is the correct file for the assignment. When you have selected the correct file, click Open, and the file will be ready to be uploaded.

You can add any comments you wish to make to your teacher regarding your assignment in the textbox before you click Submit.
You are not required to add comments. When you are ready to submit your assignment, click Submit, and your assignment will be uploaded to the course.

Click Yes to confirm that you want to submit your assignment.
Finally, click OK when you are notified that your assignment was submitted successfully.
Your teacher will now receive the assignment, grade it, and submit your score.

Fluency Assessment Recorder Some assignments will require you to record your voice using the Fluency Assessment Recorder. This tool is found in the assignments which require its use, and the instructions for the recorder are easy to follow. First, you must make sure that your microphone is set up and working properly. Your course contains a microphone test, which you may launch by clicking Test Microphone.

A box will appear that will display whether or not your microphone is receiving sound, as indicated by the colored sound graph bar on the right.
You can record a sample of your microphone audio if you wish to test the recorder, and you may use your computer’s media player to listen to the recorded file. Press the record button to begin your test recording.

If you are certain your microphone is working properly, and if you have read all of the recorder and assessment instructions, click Start Recording to begin the assessment.
The Start Recording button will open the test material and begin the countdown clock.

Recorded assessments have a time limit, which is displayed at the top of the assessment form.
If you would rather not view the time clock, you can hide it by checking the Hide Countdown Timer box above the assessment, but you must do so before beginning the assessment.

When you have finished your fluency assessment, click the stop button to stop the timer.
Any comments you wish to send to your teacher may be placed in the Your Comments box provided. When you are ready to submit your assessment, click the Submit Fluency button to turn in your assignment for a grade.

Once the fluency assessment has been submitted and saved, you will have the option of listening to how well you did by playing the audio back in the course or by downloading it for later review.
Now that your assignment has been submitted, you teacher will receive it, grade it, and submit your score.
