The PRIMERGY Modular RAID concept is designed to provide a flexible and common RAID solution for the internal disks in all PRIMERGY servers and consists of three different RAID solutions: - embedded RAID for SATA disks - entry RAID controller for SAS and SATA disks - full featured RAID controller for SAS and SATA disks The RAID controller "RAID 5/6 SAS based on LSI MegaRAID" is released to drive the server internal disk drive. The RAID stack is based on LSI MegaRAID ® and offers powerful data throughput, extensive fault-tolerant capabilities and easy-to-use management. Making sure that data is protected – while remaining instantly accessible – requires faster, smarter solutions. The " RAID 5/6 SAS based on LSI MegaRAID" RAID controller, based on the second generation SAS RAID platform from LSI, addresses these demands and boasts being the most powerful internal RAID solution we’ve offered to date. The RAID adapter features the LSI SAS1078 IC, a powerful I/O storage engine that transparently performs all the data protection, data checking, and restoration tasks. System builders can attach up to 12 disks (controller supports up to 240 disks); choose high performance SAS disks or high capacity SATA drives – or a combination of both – for greater system design flexibility. Finally, this adapter is available with two different cache sizes (256MB or 512MB), with a battery backup options for each version. Attention: When mixing SAS and SATA drives also the configurationen guideline of the system has to be taken into account.
RAID 6, Advanced Data Protection The RAID controller supports all key RAID levels including RAID 6 and 60. RAID 6 tolerates two simultaneous failures, and thus the ability to manage unrecoverable media errors during rebuilds. This is particularly useful when using lots of ports high-capacity, lower-cost SATA disk drives. Check consistency and Patrol Read, advanced background sentry services that find and fix bad media blocks on disk drives, offer critical-business applications unparalleled data protection capabilities. RAID performance The RAID controller offers maximum I/O performance and data throughput by leveraging a stable and proven RAID firmware based on LSI MegaRAID ®. Through support for 64-bit addressing, a robust RAID feature set, and advanced fault tolerance capabilities, the controller delivers high RAID performance and data availability. Powerful online management utilities (FSC's ServerView RAID) that are easy to use and quick to install allow administrators unequalled array flexibility and accessibility. Optional BBU Support The optional battery-backup module protects the integrity of the cached data on the RAID controller by providing backup power if there is a complete AC power failure or a brief power outage. The battery backup units provide an inexpensive alternative to using an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
