Application Note How to reset a Star Ethernet Printer Application Note Number: 277 Introduction This application note shows how to reset your Ethernet Printer back to factory mode. Factory mode is needed when the printer has a Static IP Address or the Web Interface Password has been changed. Supported Printers: All Ethernet Printers (Thermal and Impact) Supported Interfaces: Ethernet Table of Contents I. Ethernet Printers (Expect TSP100LAN) 1. Confirm the power cord and Ethernet cable are plugged into the back of the printer. Note: Following picture is only for reference to show TSP743IIE 2. Turn the printer on and confirm you have solid green light for power. 11/11, V1.0 Page 1 Application Note 3. On the back of the printer where the Ethernet cable plugging into the NIC card, there will be a “SW” red button. 4. With a small screwdriver or pin, you will press the “SW” button until both the NIC LED lights start blinking, then let go of the “SW” button. Both NIC LED lights will be solid. 5. Press the “SW” button one more time until the both NIC LED lights turn OFF, then let go of the “SW” button. 11/11, V1.0 Page 2 Application Note 6. Wait until the both NIC LED lights come back ON and depending on the printer model, it might make a clicking noise. 7. For Thermal Printers: Confirm with a self-test page that the printer was able to reset the NIC card properly. To perform a self-test page, turn off the printer then hold the “feed” button on the front of the printer while turning the printer on. Let go of the “feed” button when the printer starts to print. It will print out two pages. For Impact Printer: Confirm with a self-test page that the printer was able to reset the NIC card properly. To perform a self-test page, turn off the printer then hold the “feed” button on the front of the printer while turning the printer on. Let go of the “feed” button when makes a beep sound once, the printer will start to print out two pages. Note: Focus on the second page of self-test page towards the bottom. 8. Congratulations, you have successfully reset your Star Ethernet Printer back to factory mode. 11/11, V1.0 Page 3 Application Note II. TSP100LAN Printer 1. Confirm the power cord and Ethernet cable are plugged into the back of the printer. 2. Confirm that the printer is turned off. 3. Turn the printer upside down. 11/11, V1.0 Page 4 Application Note 4. With a Philip screwdriver, unscrew the small panel. 5. Remove the panel and dipswitches labeled 1 through 4 will be listed all on the “ON” position. 11/11, V1.0 Page 5 Application Note 6. Push the peach switch for number 4 down so that it is in the “OFF” position. 7. Turn the printer right-side up. Note: Do not screw the panel back in. 11/11, V1.0 Page 6 Application Note 8. Turn the printer on, and wait about 10 to 12 seconds. Note: The printer will make a click noise within those seconds. 9. Turn the printer off and upside down. 11/11, V1.0 Page 7 Application Note 10. Push the peach switch for number 4 up so that it is in the “ON” position. Note: Dipswitch 1 through 4 should all be in the ON position. 11. Confirm with a self-test page that the printer was able to reset the NIC card properly. To perform a selftest page, turn off the printer then hold the “feed” button on the front of the printer while turning the printer on. Let go of the “feed” button when the printer starts to print. It will print out two pages. Note: This is the second page of self-test page towards the bottom. 12.
