Using This Guide With your EPSON Stylus® Photo RX500, you can copy and print without even connecting a computer. Output tray 3 Flip the feeder guard forward. Feeder guard 4 Insert your paper against the right edge of the sheet feeder. 5 Slide the left edge guide against the paper (but not too tightly). 6 Flip the feeder guard back over the paper. 3 Copying a Photograph 1 Load paper in the sheet feeder. Tip: For best results, try EPSON Premium Glossy Photo Paper. 2 Open the scanner lid. 3 Place your photo face down on the glass, as shown. Move it about 0.1 inch from the top and side edge so the entire photo is scanned. Then close the scanner lid. 4 Press the On button to turn the Stylus Photo RX500 on. LCD screen and navigation buttons On button Copy button 4 You see settings on the LCD screen similar to these (your settings may be different if you changed them previously and didn’t press the Reset button): Plain Text 01 100% LTR If you see Found Images on the LCD screen, press the Copy button to view the screen above. 5 Make the following settings: ❍ Press the top left button (next to Plain in the illustration shown above) to choose the type of paper you’re using. See the User’s Guide for information on choosing your paper type. ❍ Press the top right button (next to 100%) to reduce or enlarge the size of the copy, or choose Auto Fit Page to automatically resize the copy to fit the page size you’ve selected on the LCD screen. Tip: If you want your prints to be borderless, choose Auto Fit Page. ❍ Press the bottom left button (next to Text) to select either Best (for highest quality) or Photo as the print quality. Tip: Choose Best for superior print quality when printing photos. ❍ Press the bottom right button (next to LTR) to select your paper size. 5 ❍ Use the numeric keypad to select the number of copies you want to print. Making Special Layout Settings You can print your photo without any borders, print a sheet of wallet-size snapshots, copy a mirror image onto transfer paper, or make other copy layout settings. 1 Load paper as described on page 3. 2 Place your photo on the glass and make copy settings as described above. 3 While in copy mode, press the Menu button. LCD screen and navigation buttons Menu button 6 OK button Color button You see Copy Layout on the LCD screen. (If you don’t see Copy Layout, press the Copy button, then press the Menu button.) Copy Menu 1. Copy Layout 4 Press the OK button. 5 Press the bottom left button on the LCD screen to move through these settings: ❍ Standard—Copies your photo with a 0.12-inch (3 mm) margin. ❍ BorderFree—Prints a photo without borders. (You need paper types and sizes compatible with borderless printing. See the User’s Guide for details.) ❍ Small Margins—Copies your photo with a 0.06-inch (1.5 mm) margin. ❍ Repeat-Auto—Copies your photo at full size as many times as it will fit on your paper. ❍ Repeat-4, Repeat-9, and Repeat-16—Prints 4, 9, or 16 copies of the same photo on the page. ❍ Poster-4, Poster-9, and Poster-16—Divides the photo into 4, 9, or 16 equal parts and prints each part separately. You can then assemble the parts together in a poster. 7 ❍ 2-up—Copies two different photos on a page. When you see the message Replace original in the LCD panel, remove the first photo and position your second photo, then press the Color button again. You can also copy four photos on a page (4-up). ❍ Mirror—Copies a mirror image of your photo onto EPSON Iron-On Transfer Paper so that you can iron it onto a t-shirt or other cotton cloth article. ❍ Wallet Photo—Prints nine wallet-size copies of your photo on the page. 6 Press the OK button to save your setting(s). Then press the Color button to scan and print. Making Copies Lighter or Darker 1 Load paper as described on page 3. 2 Position your photo on the glass and make any copy settings, as described in the previous two sections. 3 While in copy mode, press the Menu button. You see Copy Layout on the LCD screen. LCD screen and navigation buttons Menu button Select buttons 8 Color button 4 Press the lower left button (next to Copy Layout) until you see Copy Density on the LCD screen. 5 Press OK. You see this screen: Lighter/Darker – NnnonnO + 6 Press the Select l button on the control panel to select a lighter setting, or the Select r button to select a darker setting. 7 Press OK to save your setting. Then press the Color button to scan and print. Canceling Copy Jobs and Settings You can cancel a copy job in progress, or cancel settings. ❍ To cancel a copy job in progress, press the Stop button. Canceling appears on the LCD screen, and the page is ejected. ❍ To cancel all settings and return to the defaults, press and hold the Clear/Reset button until you see Resetting on the screen. Stop button Clear/Reset button 9 Printing from a Memory Card First print an index (a printout of all the photos on your memory card), then select the photo(s) you want to print. Inserting Your Memory Card See the User’s Guide for a list of supported memory cards. 1 Press the On button to turn the Stylus Photo RX500 on. 2 Open the memory card slot cover. Memory card slot cover 3 Make sure the light on the memory card panel is off. Then insert your card into the correct slot. Be careful not to force it. Memory card light SmartMedia card slot CompactFlash card slot Memory Stick/SD/MMC slot 10 The memory card light turns green. If the light does not turn green, or if you see the message No memory card. Operation Canceled on the LCD panel, you may have inserted the card incorrectly or inserted a card that is not supported. To remove the card, open the card slot cover and make sure the memory card light is not flashing. Then pull the card straight out of the slot. Printing an Index Follow these steps to print thumbnails of all the images on your memory card: 1 Insert your memory card, as described in the previous section. The light on the memory card panel turns green, and the message Found Images appears on the LCD panel. Found Images... Total 5 OK 2 Load letter-size paper, as described on page 3. Note: The index form may be several pages long, depending on the number of photos you have on the memory card. The Stylus Photo RX500 prints 36 thumbnails per sheet. 11 3 Press the Memory Card button. LCD screen and navigation buttons Color button OK button Memory card button Print Index appears on the LCD screen. 1.Print Index OK (If Print Index doesn’t appear, press the top left button on the LCD panel repeatedly until it appears.) 4 Press the OK button. Then press the Color button to print the index. 12 Printing Photos by Scanning the Index You can select photos on the index, then scan the index to print them. 1 Print an index, as described in the preceding section. After the index prints, the message Scan Index appears on the LCD screen. 2.Scan Index OK 2 Press the OK button. The message Place the Index appears on the screen. Place the Index 3 On the index, use a dark pen to fill in the oval(s) under the photo(s) you want to print. At the bottom of the index, fill in the oval beside the paper you want to use. Yes No 4 Load the paper you selected on the index. See page 3 for paper loading instructions. 13 5 Open the scanner lid and place the index face down on the glass, as described on page 4. 6 Press the Color button. Your photo(s) are scanned and printed. (If you see the message There is no index, your index is not positioned correctly on the glass.) Selecting and Printing Photos Using the LCD Screen You can use settings on the LCD screen to select a single photo, a range of photos, or all photos on your index. 1 Print an index, as described on page 11. 2 Load paper, as described on page 3. 3 To select your photo(s), press the top left button on the LCD panel (next to the words Scan Index) until you see the option you want: ❍ Single Photo—Press OK when you see One image on the LCD screen. Use the numeric keypad to select your photo’s index number, then press OK again. 3.One image OK 14 ❍ Range of Photos—Press OK when you see Range of Image on the LCD screen. 6.Range of Image OK Use the numeric keypad to select the number of the first photo in your range, then press OK. Then use the keypad to select the number for the last image in your range, and press OK again. ❍ All Photos on the Index—Press OK when you see All images on the LCD screen. 2.All images OK 4 Use the numeric keypad to select the number of copies to print, then press OK. 5 Press the top left button on the LCD panel to select the type of paper you loaded. See the User’s Guide for details about choosing your paper type. Prem Glossy 4x6 B-Free 001-005 6 Press the top right button to select your paper size. 15 7 Press the bottom left button to select layout options: ❍ B-Free—Print your photo(s) without any borders. (You need paper types and sizes compatible with borderless printing. See the User’s Guide for details.) ❍ 1-up—Print one photo on the sheet. You can also print two photos (2-up), four photos (4-up), eight photos (8-up), 20 photos (20-up) or 80 photos (80-up) on a single sheet. ❍ Upper 1/2—Print only on the top half of the sheet. 8 Press the OK button to save your settings. Then press the Color button to print your photos. Making Advanced Settings You can add a sepia tint, or a time and date stamp to your photos. You can also change the resolution, brightness, contrast, sharpness, and saturation, or apply PRINT Image Matching™ or Exif Print information to optimize print quality. (Your digital camera must support P.I.M. or Exif Print.) 1 Print an index and select your photos, as described above. 2 Select your paper type, paper size, and layout options, as described above. Then press the Menu button. You see this screen: Detail Setting 1.Resolution 16 3 To change the resolution, press the OK button. Then press the bottom left button to move through these options: ❍ Best—Prints at 1440 × 720 dpi (recommended for best results). ❍ Photo—Prints at 720 × 720 dpi. 4 Press OK to select the option you want. 5 If you don’t want to make other changes, press the Color button to print your photos. If you want to make other changes, press the lower left button to move through the remaining advanced menus. Press OK to select a menu, and OK again to select an option in the menu. You can make changes to any of the following menus: ❍ Color Effect—Choose Color to print in color or grayscale, or Sepia to print with a sepia tone. ❍ Auto Correct—Lets you print with PRINT Image Matching or Exif Print information for improved image quality. You can also choose the Stylus Photo RX500’s own automatic correction (Auto Photo Fine) or no correction (None). Tip: For best results, we recomment the P.I.M. setting; however, your digital camera must support PRINT Image Matching. Most digital cameras support Exif Print, which also produces excellent results. ❍ Enhance Res.—Turn this feature on to remove digital noise and enhance low resolution images. ❍ Brightness—Choose settings ranging from Brightest to Darkest, or Standard (no brightness adjustment). 17 ❍ Contrast—Adjusts the contrast between the colors or shades in an image. Choose from Off, Hi, or Super Hi. ❍ Sharpness—Adjusts the sharpness of object outlines in an image. For no sharpness adjustment, leave the setting at Standard. ❍ Saturation—Adjusts color saturation in the printed image to make prints more vivid or less vivid. ❍ Date—Adds the date the image was taken to the bottom right corner of the print. Choose from three different formats, or choose None to omit the date stamp. ❍ Time—Adds the time the image was taken to the bottom right corner of the print. Choose between the 12-hour or 24-hour (military) system, or choose None. ❍ Print Info—When this feature is enabled, print information (exposure time/shutter speed, F stop, and ISO speed rate) are added to the bottom right corner of the print. ❍ Fit to Frame—When enabled, this feature automatically crops any part of the image that extends beyond the margins of the paper size you selected on the LCD screen. ❍ Hi Speed—When turned on, this feature enables bidirectional printing, which increases print speed. 6 When you’re done making changes, press the Color button to print. 18 Cancelling Settings and Print Jobs You can cancel a print job in progress, or cancel and then reenter settings if you make a mistake. Copy button Stop button Memory Card button Note: The Clear/Reset button does not work for settings made in memory card mode. You must reenter new settings individually. ❍ To cancel a print job in progress, press the Stop button. Canceling appears on the LCD screen, and your page is ejected. ❍ To cancel settings before you print, press the Copy button on the control panel. Then press the Memory Card button to enter memory card mode again and make new settings. If you’ve just completed or canceled a print job, simply enter the new settings. 19
