Installation
1. Clean tensioner pulleys. Ensure cylinder No. 1 is at TDC by aligning dimple on timing belt drive pulley with pointer on oil pump housing. See Fig. 4. Ensure camshaft pulley TDC marks are aligned. See Fig. 5. 2. Install camshaft timing belt counterclockwise in sequence shown. See Fig. 6. Loosen and retighten tensioner adjusting nut to tension camshaft timing belt. Install balancer belt drive pulley and lower cover. Install crankshaft pulley. Install bolt. 3. Rotate crankshaft pulley COUNTERCLOCKWISE about 5-6 turns so timing belt positions on pulley. Set No. 1 piston at TDC of compression stroke. Loosen belt tensioner adjusting nut about one turn. Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise 3 teeth on camshaft pulley. Tighten belt tensioner adjusting nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. 4. Rotate crankshaft so that crankshaft and camshaft pulleys are at TDC position. Ensure camshaft "UP" mark is facing up. If it is not, timing belt will have to be repositioned. 5. Remove crankshaft pulley and lower cover. Set timing belt drive pulley to TDC position. 6. Lock camshaft timing belt adjuster arm in place by installing a 6 x 10 mm timing cover bolt. Loosen belt tensioner adjusting nut about one turn. See Fig. 3. Verify balancer belt tensioner pulley moves freely. Push balancer belt tensioner up, then retighten belt tensioner adjusting nut. 7. Remove sealing bolt from maintenance hole on side of engine block. See Fig. 7. Scribe a line 2.9" (74 mm) from end of 6 x 100 mm bolt. Install 6 x 100 mm bolt into sealing bolt hole to lock rear balancer shaft in place. 8. Align front balancer shaft pulley groove with pointer on oil pump housing. See Fig. 8. Install balancer belt. Loosen tensioner adjusting nut about one turn to tension balancer shaft belt. Remove 6 x 100 mm bolt from rear balancer shaft. Install sealing bolt with new washer. 9. Temporarily install crankshaft pulley and bolt. Turn crankshaft pulley about one turn counterclockwise, then tighten tensioner adjusting nut. Remove the 6 x 10 mm bolt that locked camshaft timing belt adjuster arm in place. 10. Remove crankshaft pulley. Install lower cover with new gasket or liquid gasket. Install rubber seal around belt tensioner adjusting nut. DO NOT loosen nut. Install crankshaft pulley. Lubricate crankshaft pulley bolt and underside of bolt shoulder. Install and tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. 11. Install dipstick tube with new "O" ring. When installing cylinder head cover gasket, apply liquid gasket (Part No. 08718-0001 or -0003) to 4 corners where gasket meets camshafts. 12. Install alternator and harness. Install accessory drive belts. Install engine mount bracket to engine and frame. Connect negative and positive battery cables. Adjust drive belts to proper tension.
