The driver installation for the USB interface is done automatically. In case of an occurring problem it is necessary to carry out the installation manually. The respective FTDI driver can be found on the CD. USB and LAN use a transfer rate of 921 600 Bd and the serial ports (RS232/ 422)) use 115 200 Bd. The default transfer rate is 115 200 Bd. It can be changed with a terminal program and the commands *para:baud arg (arg = 115 for 115 200 Bd, arg = 921 for 921 600 Bd) *para:save (see Firmware Commands) Remark: The baudrate can be increased via each interface, but reduced only via USB or LAN. The optical measuring signal will be connected with a SMA terminated fibre optic cable. The preferred core diameter is 200 µm (a thinner one would lead to lost of light power, a thicker one would lead to lost of optical resolution). Please do not use another connector than SMA cable to avoid any damage of the spectrometer slit!

Software JETI ProSpekT
The process spectrometer Versa PS 2000 is delivered with the JETI ProSpekT software. Using this software it is possible to program three triggering positions of a rotary encoder for dark, reference and transmission measurements correspondingly. The measuring mode of the software is used for visualizing the spectra as they are delivered by Versa PS 2000. 5.1. Installation Please note that you must have administrator privileges to install the software! Execute the following steps: • Start Windows XP™/ Vista™/ Windows 7™/ Windows 8™ • Insert the CD in the CD drive of the PC and open it • Start setup.exe from the folder \Software\JETI ProSpekT and follow the instructions. 5.2. JETI ProSpekT • Start the program and click Connect. Versa PS 2000 will be found and connection with it will be established automatically.
• First rotate the encoder one full turn to let the firmware know the index position. The firmware of the Versa PS 2000 assumes, that the rotary encoder is rotated always in the same direction. A current position is detected as follows: the firmware receives an index position pulse (which comes every full turn) and sets the position Copyright © 2014 JETI Technische Instrumente GmbH

counter to 0. Then the counter is incremented every time an impulse from the encoder comes, independently of in which direction it is rotated.
• The measurement of the dark spectrum is only signalized by the „Dark“-indicator and not displayed in the graph. Measured reference and transmission spectra are also indicated, but can be displayed in the graph using the selected wavelength range („Start of spectrum“ to „End of spectrum“). The current measurement is indicated with changing of the background of the radio buttons. At the same time the reference and the transmission radio buttons are clickable, and if any of them is unchecked, the corresponding spectrum is not displayed. Summing up: the colored background of a radio button indicates a current measurement; a dot indicates, if the corresponding spectrum is displayed. • In the first picture below: the current measurement is reference; reference and transmission spectra will be displayed.

Saving to Excel The FILE-menu contains the “Save in Excel” submenu, which contains some commands for saving into Excel of the measured spectra. The saving can be started with “Start” menu item (one will be asked to choose the path and the file name for saving), and ended with “Stop”. There is a protection against losing of connection or closing the program: if such an event happens, the data will be saved. Nevertheless, if the program crashes because of some Windows system error, the data will be lost. Generally, all measurements are saved into a temporary file and only after the “Save in Excel”-mode is switched off, are transferred to an Excel-file. It is not necessary, that Excel is installed on the computer.
• Under FILE->Save In Excel->Setup Output one can choose, what kinds of spectra are to be saved: only reference, only transmission or both.

• Anyway, during saving to Excel a separate sheet for every kind of measurement is created. If the maximal number of columns is reached, the next sheet is created. The sheets get corresponding names: Reference1, Reference2, etc. and Transmission1, Transmission2, etc. • To set the positions of the rotary encoder, open the PMGR-menu:
• Turn: The 'Turn' input field is used for setting of the total turn counts. • Current position: 'Current position' displays the counted pulses from the index position pulse. • Turns [rpm]: Shows the rotational speed in rotations per minute • Dark/ Reference/ Transmission position: 'Dark position', 'Reference position' and 'Transmission position' display the set positions. These can be deleted (set to 0) or set to the current position using corresponding buttons on the right. After clicking 'Close' button the software switches to encoder triggered measuring mode.

LIGHT-menu The light-menu allows the user to control additional lamps, if Versa PS 2000 is equipped with them. When the 'Light Source Controls'-panel is active, the encoder triggered measuring mode is off, i.e. the device doesn't receive any spectra. Only after closing the panel, the encoder triggered measuring mode is switched on.
The picture above shows the control combination, where both lamps are off. The halogen and the deuterium lamp (on/off) one can control separately by the halogendeuterium lamp. The shutter-check-box is only for self-control; its purpose is to make it possible to open the shutter manually and check, if the lamps burn. During the measurement the shutter acts normally automatically. The xenon flash lamp has two adjustable parameters: flash interval and pulse length. The number of flash pulses that are initiated during one measurement depends on the integration time. For example, if flash lamp interval is 10 ms and the integration time is 9 ms, one flash pulse comes. If integration time is 10 ms, 2 pulses come. If integration time is 19 ms, still 2 pulses come. If integration time is 20 ms, 3 pulses come. And so on. The pulse length is rather an internal flash-lamp parameter, that doesn't have much influence on the integral light energy. One should just try some values noticing, that a typical value would be somewhere between 10 and 20 µs. Display-menu Under display->clear one can choose between 'Always' and 'Never'. The graph is always cleared before the next measurement is displayed by 'Always'. All previous measurements stay visible in a gray color in the background by 'Never'. However, it is any time possible to clear the graph by pressing 'Delete'-key.
Status Non-fatal errors that can occur, are displayed in 'Status'-field. These are: • Overexposure. The reason can be either a too long integration time or a too bright light source. Copyright © 2014 JETI Technische Instrumente GmbH
17
Operating Instructions
Versa PS 2000 Document Version 1.3
Note, that spectra are still shown in the case of overexposure and one can easily recognize an overexposure by plateaus on the top of a spectrum curve. • Position error. Occurs if the total number of impulses within one full turn was not equal to the total turn counts set in the 'Position manager'. The reason can be a false set number of total turn counts or accidental reverse motion of the encoder within a turn. It makes sense to do something against it only if the error occurs systematically, because at the moment as the error message appears the position miscalculation is already eliminated by the latest index position pulse. • Firmware error. Occurs if a reference measurement is done before a dark measurement, or if a transmission measurement is done before a reference measurement. The reason can be confused settings in the “Position manager” (e.g. the earliest position for a dark measurement, then transmission measurement and then reference measurement). Though occurrence of the error within the first turn after device connection or setting of the triggering positions is quite normal, because there is no assurance that the dark measurement position comes first.
