AudiaFLEX - Audia® Digital Audio Platform AudiaFLEX AEC-2HD Card - Acoustic Echo Cancellation AudiaFLEX TI-2 Card - Telephone Interface CPA130 - Dual-Channel Amplifier
APPLICATION:
Teleconferencing with acoustic echo cancellation and telephone interface.
REQUIREMENTS: • Independent outputs for local sound reinforcement and teleconferencing • Automatic mixing, with mix-minus outputs for reinforcement and conferencing • Acoustic echo cancellation and telephone interface for teleconferencing PRODUCT OVERVIEW: AudiaFLEX is an expanded version of Audia, the benchmark in digital audio systems. AudiaFLEX provides the same easy-to-use software and functional algorithms, but with greater flexibility in the choice of I/O configurations. Inputs and outputs may be specified by pairs, in any combination, up to a total of 24. All possible I/O configurations are available with or without CobraNet®, for networked or stand-alone applications. Intuitive software provides audio system design via PC computer, and allows easy selection, viewing, and calibration of numerous audio components: mixers, combiners, matrixes, equalizers, filters, crossovers, dynamics, routers, delays, remote controls, meters, generators, diagnostics, etc. Once a system design is compiled, it is downloaded into AudiaFLEX, where it can then be controlled via AMX® / Crestron®, via computer, or via dedicated Audia remote control panels.. Each AEC-2HD Input Card provides two channels of Acoustic Echo Cancellation and background noise reduction, as part of AudiaFLEX hardware. AEC-2HD Input Cards are designed and built by Biamp Systems, using a wide-band algorithm for increased frequency response and improved audio quality. TI-2 Cards provide two channels of telephone interface, as part of AudiaFLEX hardware. TI-2 Cards allow AudiaFLEX to connect directly to analog telephone lines. Being more than just a normal 'hybrid', each channel of the TI-2 includes line-echo cancellation, noise suppression, caller ID decoding, ring detection/validation, DTMF/pulse dialing, DTMF decoding, and call progress tone decoding. Used in conjunction with AEC-2HD Cards, the TI-2 makes AudiaFLEX the most powerful, flexible, and affordable telephone conferencing product available. The CPA130 is a dual-channel amplifier, providing 65 Watts per channel into 4 ohm loads.

APPLICATION EXAMPLE: This application demonstrates the use of Audia in a meeting room, with teleconferencing and local sound reinforcement. This is a stand-alone application using a single AudiaFLEX 10x2NC with TI-2 (ten Acoustic Echo Cancellation inputs, two outputs, one Telephone Interface, non-CobraNet). An example system design, as created using Audia software, is shown on the back page. Ten table microphones are connected to Acoustic Echo Cancellation inputs (1~10) of the AudiaFLEX unit (five AEC-2HD cards installed). In the system design, these microphones are fed to an Auto Mixer (10x1). The Auto Mixer has direct outputs enabled, and they are set for 'post-gate/post-NOM' operation. A telephone line for conferencing is connected to the Telephone Interface (TI-2 card installed). Receive signal from the telephone line (far-end) is mixed with the microphone signals via a Matrix Mixer (11x4). The Matrix Mixer is set to provide appropriate 'mix-minus' outputs for local sound reinforcement, teleconferencing, and as a reference for the Acoustic Echo Cancellation inputs. Output Bus 1 includes only far-end signal, providing the AEC reference. Output Buses 2 & 3 include microphones and far-end signal, for local reinforcement. Bus 2 has mics 1~5 mixed at lower levels (-6dB), as a feed to their adjacent speaker (A), while Bus 3 has mics 6~10 mixed at lower levels to their adjacent speaker (B). Output Bus 4 includes microphones only, as the Transmit signal to the teleconference far-end. Matrix Mixer outputs 2 & 3 receive equalization to enhance the intelligibility of local reinforcement, before feeding the CPA130 dual-channel amplifier driving Speakers A & B. Output 1 must receive the same processing as the local reinforcement outputs, to maintain a proper AEC reference. Output 4 receives equalization simply for enhancement and speech frequency filtering of the Transmit feed. The Telephone Interface (TI-2) Receive block is set for Auto Answer after two rings. Far-end audio and ring tone levels are adjustable, and Noise Suppression may be enabled on the telephone line. The TI-2 Dialer block provides a user interface for on-screen dialing functions including a telephone keypad, sixteen speed-dial memory locations, last number dialed, redial, and caller ID. The Dialer and Receive blocks include control input nodes. Used in conjunction with a Logic Box and external switches, these control nodes may be used to create custom dialing panels for either direct dialing or recalling speed-dial numbers. A dedicated phone set may be used to initiate calls, followed by a manual 'hook switch' (HS) connecton to the Receive block, which would then bring the TI-2 on-line. The Dialer and Receive blocks also have control output nodes. The Receive block provides an output for 'ring indication' (RI) which can be used to trigger visual and/or audible indication of incoming calls. The Dialer block provides an output for 'dialing' (D) which can be used to trigger momentary ducking of DTMF tones on the sound reinforcement outputs, while outgoing calls are being initiated. Although each TI-2 card provides two independent channels of Telephone Interface, only one channel has been utilized here. The second channel could be used on another telephone line, allowing other sites to be included in conferencing. Also, additional TI-2 cards could have been used to increase the number of available conferencing lines/sites. Furthermore, each Telephone Interface channel can provide up to five different functional blocks, only three of which are discussed here (Receive, Transmit, and Dialer). To demonstrate the power of AudiaFLEX and the TI-2, the above system was intenionally designed to fit into the same AudiaFLEX unit, and to utilize the same TI-2 card, as a completely independent "Telephone Page Routing" system described in Applications, section 7 (7-8app.doc).
