PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT By: Date: Roger Kennis TH May 19 , 2015 Fluke introduces the new Fluke PRV240 Proving Unit easy-to-use product that will be in demand by environmental health and safety managers, plant safety officers, facilities managers and other managers concerned with electrical safety and compliance. 1. The 2 new Fluke PRV240 with FLUKE-117/PRV240 The PRV240 is the only battery powered voltage source that can be utilized for verification of your test tool before taking actual measurements when a known source is not available. Verification of your test tool is recommended by both GS38 and NFPA70E before any live measurements are made.  Sources both ac and dc steady state voltage  Works with multimeters, clamp meters, voltage testers, and two pole testers.” The Fluke PRV240 Proving Unit is the customer’s best choice because … It is the only electronic voltage source that sources both ac and dc voltages for test tool verification. Competing products offer ramping sources or ac or dc voltage sources, but not both. Competitor’s products require the user to buy multiple proving units to satisfactorily verify all types of electronic test tools. The Fluke PRV240 is used to test both high-and low-impedance digital multimeters, clamp meters and testers. This is important because it provides a stable, fixed output voltage to properly assess clamp meter and multimeter proper operation. Ramping sources cannot be used for these types of test tools. The PRV240 has internal battery power sufficient to perform 5000 verification tests. Availability The system will be open for order of the Fluke PRV240 on Monday June 1, with an ATP of 2 weeks. Public announcement will be Monday, June 15th. 1 Target Customers: The targeted industries are industrial plants that represent an inherently environments, oil & gas, chemical processing, power utilities. Secondary industries include commercial building management. Customer types include commercial/industrial electrician, HVAC technicians, or any customer who needs to work on 3-phase power systems or customers working remotely that need access to a voltage source to verify their test tool is working properly. Customers also include environmental health and safety managers, plant safety officers, facilities managers and other managers concerned with electrical safety and compliance. Particular focus should be paid to safety officers at oil & gas and chemical processing plants. Fluke has received multiple requests for a proving unit from these customers. Primary Channels: Electrical, Maintenance, Process, (no restrictions). Ordering Information and pricing: The PRV240 Proving Unit is available as a stand-alone product and in a kit: Item Number Model What’s Included 4566209 PRV240 4636971 FLUKE117/PRV240 Appendix 1 Proving Unit, Hanging Strap Proving Unit, Fluke 117 DMM [KIT] Summary product specifications, accessories and service Output voltage 240 V ac rms or dc ±10 % ≥1 MΩ LoZ >3 kΩ load 60 V ac typical 50 V ac rms minimum LED power indicator Turns on when output voltage is present Battery LR03 4 x AA Alkaline batteries NEDA, 24 A IEC Battery life 5000 (5-second duration) test cycles with >1 MΩ load, 300 tests minimum with >3 kΩ load Output loading See drawing below 2 Fit in product line The PRV240 Proving Unit is a new product, and should be considered an extension of the Fluke digital multimeter line. The PRV240 is a logical accompaniment to any Fluke digital multimeter, clamp, electrical tester or two-pole tester sale, particularly for sales in oil & gas and chemical facilities and industrial/electrical environments. Recommended Accessories The PRV240 ships with a TPAK hanging strap. In the event the TPAK strap is lost or damaged, the standard Fluke TPAK ToolPak™ Magnetic Meter Hanger is a compatible accessory. Several Fluke carrying cases will accept the PRV240 in addition to a Fluke digital multimeter. Service plan The Fluke PRV240 is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. In the event of a product failure, the product should be returned to Fluke for replacement. Appendix 3     Competition (and how to beat them) Megger MPU690 Socket & See SP200 Martindale PD240 Seaward PP1  BlackStar Of these, the most entrenched competitor is Megger. Key strengths include 50-690 V ac ramped output voltage that verifies the correct operation of voltage, indicators that utilize a lamp for operation, a built in magnet in the back of the product and a wellestablished EU market presence. Key weaknesses are no dc voltage output, no fixed output voltage (ramp only), and the fact that is not compatible with multimeters only two pole testers. Fluke will win against Megger because it has both ac and dc 240 fixed voltage outputs allowing testing of both ac and dc measurement paths, it is compatible with low impedance loads, and includes a TPAK hanger strap for maximum versatility. 4
