USER INFORMATION This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are being supervised or instructed concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. This electric device is not a toy. Store the pressurized steam ironing station outside of the reach of children. It is imperative to supervise children during the ironing process to ensure that they do not touch the iron. 30 The start-up operation must be handled as described in these operating instructions. The pressurized steam ironing station may be used only in dry rooms, never outdoors. It must be placed on a safe, level surface that is particularly heat resistant. The storage shelf for the iron [8] must also be in a safe and sturdy position. To prevent damage always place the iron on the textured silicone surface of the storage shelf. Use only clear water to fill the water tank, no descaling agents or similar products, no scents or chemical additives of any kind! The water drainage lid with locking screw may not be opened during use. Compliance with the instructions for safely filling the water tank is imperative. IRONING WITH THE PRESSURIZED STEAM IRONING STATION Never point the steam directly toward persons, animals, plants, electric household appliances or any type of electric device. Risk of extreme burns and scalding. The pressurized steam ironing station may not be moved or transported during the ironing process. Always place the iron on the storage shelf for the iron [8]. The storage shelf for the iron [8] and the sole plate [12] may reach extremely hot temperatures and can cause burns in case of improper use. Never touch the sole plate when removing the water tank. Never leave the device unsupervised: • while it is connected to the power network • if it is within the reach of children. Unplug the power plug [2] from the power outlet: • prior to leaving the room (even for just a short while) • prior to cleaning and maintenance • after using the pressurized steam ironing station. Never leave the device unsupervised while it is switched on. Always place the iron on the storage shelf [8] designed for this purpose. Never touch the pressurized steam ironing station or the power cord with wet or damp hands. Never use the device in a bathroom. Never submerge the device in water or other liquids. The conducting parts (switch, plug, electronics, etc.) must not come into contact with water. Never iron wet laundry, only laundry that is very slightly damp or dry. Never touch the hot sole plate to electrical lines or the steam hose. Do not use the iron • after it has been dropped • if there are visible damages • if it leaks. If steam escapes from the steam generator while the device heats up then shut device off and tighten the locking screw for cleaning/descaling. If steam continues to escape after this and while the device re-heats, shut the device off and contact an authorized customer service centre. Water might escape from the sole plate if the steam button [11] is pushed before the water in the steam generator’s water tank has reached the optimum temperature (approx. 7 minutes), meaning before the device has heated up. C Ironing with steam CLEANING 1. Preparation Always disconnect the power plug [2] from the power outlet and let device cool off prior to performing any cleaning or maintenance work. Place pressurized steam ironing station on a secure, level surface in a sturdy position. Place the iron on the textured silicone surface of the storage shelf [8]. Rinse steam generator once a month or after 10 uses to prevent damaging the iron. The power plug [2] of the pressurized steam ironing station may not be connected to the power network (pull plug from outlet if necessary). 3. Start-up operation Remove label or protective sheet from sole plate [12] and clean sole plate with a soft cloth. Insert power plug [2] of the pressurized steam ironing station into a wall outlet. During first use: • white particles may leak from the sole plate • some steam may escape from the iron This is normal and will stop after a short time. Switch the pressurized steam ironing station and the iron on by using the power switch ON/OFF [5]. Never open the water drainage lid or locking screw for cleaning/descaling if the steam generator is still hot. Wipe the surface of the pressurized steam ironing station only with a damp cloth. REPAIR Improper use or improper repairs may pose significant risks to the user and void the guarantee claim. No liability for possible damages is accepted if the device is used for any other but its intended purpose, operated wrong or improperly. Any repair work, to include the replacement of a damaged power cord or temperature control, must be performed by Leifheit customer service or authorized staff with similar qualifications in order to avoid any possible risks. Please contact customer service in case of damages to the steam hose on the iron. Never perform any independent repairs. The use of original Leifheit replacement parts is imperative when replacing individual parts of the pressurized steam ironing station. If required, please contact an authorized customer service centre and insist on original replacement parts. Any disregard of the above points may interfere with the safety of the device. The steam generator [1] may produce a pumping noise when the pressurized steam ironing station is switched on. This is normal for technical reasons and will last only a short while. 2. Filling with water (prior to first use) First open the lock [15] of the water tank and remove the water tank [13] from the steam generator. Through the fill opening [14] fill the water tank to maximum level (see MAX indicator on the chart) with water. (Observe note for filling the pressurized steam ironing station)! Then insert water tank into the corresponding holder of the pressurized steam ironing station. The water tank lock [15] must lock audibly! If the device is used for the first time or after descaling, it will pump a larger amount of water from the removable water tank into the steam generator. Therefore fill the tank when required. The device must be made unusable (e.g. by cutting off the power cord and plug) prior to disposal. Notes for filling the pressurized steam ironing station: It is possible to use cold or hot tap water. To increase the service life of your pressurized steam ironing station you should always also use distilled water. When using distilled water it must be mixed with tap water (ratio 1:1). Do not add any descaling or chemical substances or ironing water additives! This will damage the steam station and the iron. Hard water in particular will require the use of distilled water. Your competent water supply company will inform you of the hardness of your water. Inspection of voltage The device is set to the correct voltage by the manufacturer. Inspect whether your voltage complies with the information on the data plate of the device. Set temperature control [10] of the iron to the desired temperature. When ironing with steam please ensure that the temperature for the iron is not set below the mark . Steam generator and iron will now heat up. The iron will take approx. 1 minute to heat to level (• •), the steam generator approx. 2.5 minutes. Please observe of the sewn-on care instructions of all textiles to be ironed. Compare the care symbols on the label with the information of the following table. (Page 33) The indicator light “steaming” [6] will light up as soon as the steam generator has reached maximum pressure; steam ironing is now possible. The desired temperature has been reached once the indicator light [9] goes out and the iron is ready for operation. The laundry may now be steamed by using the steam button [11]. Release the steam button if steam is no longer required. Lock the steam button for continuous steam by pushing the button down while simultaneously pushing it toward the front. The iron can generate steam in a horizontal as well as vertical position and can therefore be used to freshen hanging clothing or fabric. The indicator light “steaming” [6] will turn on occasionally to indicate temperature and steam operation. A clicking noise from inside the steam generator is normal while the steam valve opens and closes. When using the iron for the first time, do not point the steam toward the fabric to be ironed but rather on a cloth until steam escapes constantly. The water tank will be almost empty if the steam volume diminishes while ironing. Never use the steam button [11] to produce steam while the iron is on the storage shelf [8]. ATTENTION: The steam generator is always under pressure! 31 GB E 4. Refilling water (during operation) The pressurized steam ironing station is equipped with an integrated water level sensor. The low water level indicator [7] will light up if the minimum water level is reached and an alarm signal will sound. 1. Switch the pressurized steam ironing station and the iron off by using the power switch ON/OFF [5]. Shutting down Place iron on the shelf of the pressurized steam ironing station. Use the power switch [5] to shut down the iron and the pressurized steam ironing station. The indicator lights will go out. Disconnect power plug [2] from the power outlet. Let device cool off completely. 2. Disconnect power plug [2] from the power outlet. 3. Open the lock [15] of the water tank and remove the water tank [13] from the steam generator. 4. Through the fill opening [14] fill the water tank to maximum level (see MAX indicator on the chart) with water and then insert into the corresponding holder on the pressurized steam ironing station. The water tank lock [15] must lock audibly! 5. Then re-start pressurized steam ironing station and the iron (see 3. “Start-Up”). F Tips and tricks Always observe the ironing instructions attached to your piece of clothing! Store the professional steam iron at a dry location. Recommendations: Sort the textiles to be ironed according to material (wool, cotton, etc.). Since the iron will heat up faster than it will cool down, first iron the textiles that require a lower temperature and then continue with the textiles that require a higher temperature. D Ironing without steam Connect the power plug [2] of the pressurized steam ironing station to the power network. Operate the power switch ON/OFF [5] for the iron. The indicator light on the power switch ON/OFF [5] and on the iron [9] will light up to indicate that the pressurized steam ironing station is switched on for ironing. Use the temperature control [10] to select the desired temperature. The desired temperature has been reached once the indicator light [9] goes out and the iron is ready for operation. The steam button is not used for dry ironing. Please observe the sewn-on care instructions of all textiles to be ironed. Compare the care symbols on the label with the information of the following table. (Page 33) If care instructions are not available but if you know the material of the textile to be ironed, then the table may also be of help. The table refers to pre-treated textiles. If textiles are not pre-treated, please select a lower temperature. If the laundry item to be ironed is made of a variety of materials, the temperature should be set to the material requiring the lowest temperature. Example: The laundry item to be ironed consists of 70% synthetic fibres and 30% cotton. Set temperature control [9] on pos. • (see table) and iron without pressurized steam, according to the information for synthetic fibres. Textiles made of pure (100%) wool can be ironed with pressurized steam. We recommend ironing pure wool, silk, and synthetic fibres from the left to prevent shiny spots on your clothing. The use of an easy-glide sole plate is also recommended. Other types of fabric, i.e. satin, should always be ironed toward the same direction (and with a slightly damp cloth on top) with very slight pressure to prevent shiny spots. Always move the iron evenly across the fabric to be ironed. Iron fabrics with dark or vibrant colours from the back so that the colours stay vibrant. Fabrics made of wool, cotton, or thin linen should be ironed from the back with steam or from the front using a thin ironing cloth to prevent shiny spots. Starched fabrics need more moisture. White and light-coloured pieces of laundry should be ironed from the front, dark fabrics from the back. Embroidery will be highlighted when ironed from the back. The steam iron should not be moved across zippers, hooks, etc. or placed on top of such items to prevent scratches on the sole plate. The sole plate must always be kept clean (see “Cleaning Information”). 32 After use wait for the device to cool down; ensure that the cables do not come into contact with any hot parts. Water remaining in the tank after the ironing process must not be drained. Tips for professional ironing results: Regular irons generate only very small quantities of steam. This means that it must continuously generate steam to provide better ironing results. A professional ironing system works very differently. The fabric is first moistened with steam and then ironed dry in a second phase. This will get rid of even smallest wrinkles and the clothing is perfectly smooth. In the first phase (freshening of clothing), hold the iron approx. 20 cm above the fabric to be ironed and push the steam button [10]. Move the iron across the fabric in a circular motion so that the steam can moisten the fabric. Minor wrinkles will be steamed very quickly, while very thick fabric or clothing with heavy wrinkles will need to be steamed longer. In the second phase (dry ironing), first ensure that the temperature control is at the correct level for the fabric to be ironed. Release the steam button [10] and start dry ironing the piece of clothing. The special sole plate pad prevents shiny spots on the fabric. When following this technique as well as the recommendations on this page, you will notice how easy it is to give your clothing a professionally ironed finish. G Cleaning and care Switch the pressurized steam ironing station and the iron off by using the power switch ON/OFF [5]. Examples: Men’s shirt, blended fabric While shirt is hanging, hold shirt closed near the collar from the outside and use the tip of the iron to blow up the sleeves and inside of the shirt with steam. Always iron the button facing from the back. Pure Silk It is possible to iron even extremely delicate fabrics without any problems. For optimum results we recommend the use of an easy-glide sole plate (see “Accessories”). Angora Wool Hold steam iron approximately 2-3 cm above the piece of clothing, steam it, and then quickly shake out the piece of clothing. Laundry will be fluffy and thick. Suit trousers When using an Active ironing table, turn on steam extraction, then steam waistline on the ironing surface. Place trouser legs on top of each other and iron from one side. Slightly iron crease with the tip of the iron. Ruched blouse Ruching and seams must no longer be ironed – simple steaming of the ruching prevents flat areas. Disconnect power plug [2] from the power outlet. Let steam generator and iron cool off completely. Wipe the surface of the device with a damp cloth. Jeans Place pant legs on top of each other and iron from one side. Interior side will be ironed simultaneously. Descaling: Dry linen / Cotton Set temperature control to • • •, which transports more heat to the sole plate. Rinse steam generator [1] once a month or after 10 uses to prevent damage to the ironing station. Pleated-front trousers Place trousers on Active steam ironing table, slightly lift waistline and steam from outside. Never open water drainage lid and closing screw [16] for cleaning/descaling while the steam generator is still hot. Covers, blankets, towels The laundry items will be folded as usual and perfectly smoothed with slow ironing movements across the fold, the front and the back, which simultaneously also irons the interior sides. The hard water deposits that develop on the inside of the steam tank will not settle on the walls. For maintenance, simply rinse the steam generator once or twice a month while observing the following: 1. The steam generator must be shut down for at least two hours and may no longer be hot. 2. Remove the removable water tank. 3. Hold steam generator in both hands and shake well. 4. Place steam generator on its side, use a coin to open the water drainage lid and locking screw for cleaning/ descaling. 5. Empty the steam generator. Type of textile Temperature control Recommendation 6. Use a cup to refill steam generator with fresh water and shake well. 7. Empty the steam generator once again. Acetate Acryl Nylon Dry ironing. Observe care instructions on the label. On principle iron only with slight pressure. Repeat steps 6 & 7 two times. Polyester Viscose Dry ironing. Iron from the back. For blended fibres set the lowest recommended temperature 9. Reattach the water drainage lid to the steam generator. Silk Dry ironing. Iron from the back. Wool Light cotton Light linen Steam iron. Iron from the back. Place thin cloth on top of the fabric or use easy-glide sole plate to prevent shiny spots. Cotton Fine linen Starched fabrics Steam iron. Wet before ironing. Thicker fabrics and starched fabrics can be ironed as normal; dark fabrics, embroidered textiles should be ironed from the back. Linen Steam iron. Iron with plenty of steam. Iron dark fabrics from the back to prevent shiny spots. Iron cuffs from the front to prevent undesirable creases. 8. Insert locking screw [16] into the steam generator and use a coin to tighten it. Never submerge the device in water or other liquids. 33 GB H Troubleshooting Problem Possible cause Troubleshooting The device does not heat. There is a problem with the power supply. Inspect power cord, plug, and outlet. The steam generator has not been switched on. Switch on the On/Off switch. The temperature control is set to MIN. Set temperature control to desired temperature. Ironing station does not generate steam. The water level in the water tank is insufficient. Fill water tank. The indicator light “Steam generator” does not yet light up. Wait until indicator light comes on. The selected ironing temperature is too low for steam ironing. Set temperature to mark • • or higher. Water tank is not correctly seated on steam generator. Seat the water tank correctly on the steam generator. If a very high temperature has been selected with the iron, the steam generated is dry and barely visible.  It is even less visible if the room temperature is relatively high and not visible at all if the temperature has been set to MAX. Set the iron to a lower temperature e.g. • • so as to be able to check that steam is actually being generated. The selected temperature is too low for steam ironing. Set temperature at a minimum to • •. When taking a break while steam ironing, the steam remaining in the steam hose may cool and condensate. This condensate then drops from the openings in the sole plate. This is normal. Hold iron over a piece of fabric before ironing and push the steam button. Wait until steam escapes and all water drops are gone. Smoke comes from the iron when it’s first being used. Some parts of the device have been lubricated in the factory, which will generate smoke when the device heats up for the first time. This is normal and will stop automatically after a short time. The device is making a pumping noise. Water is being pumped into the steam generator. This is normal. Dirty water comes out of the sole plate. Too many hard water deposits and other deposits have formed in the steam generator. Rinse steam generator. See section “Cleaning and Care”. Acoustic alarm There is not enough water in the water tank. Top up the water in the tank. There is enough water in the tank. Switch off the device’s on/off switch. After a pause, switch it back on. If the alarm sounds again, please contact an authorized customer service centre. Water drops from the sole plate.
