DLS101/102 CATVisor SMARTLOADER Introduction CATVisor SmartLoader is a standalone software utility for downloading embedded software and selected settings files for HFC transponders and DVX, DVO and HDO modules. Software downloads can be done both in batch mode or broadcast mode, when applicable. Functions SmartLoader has the following functions: − − − − −
Retrieve list of connected devices from an IP gateway or from DVX bus View the list of connected devices and their identification data Sort, edit, store and open the list of connected devices Download embedded software into selected HFC or Headend devices Download spectrum analyser sweep files into selected ACx transponders
Functional description Element discovery The network elements handled by SmartLoader can be entered either manually as an IP address list, or discovered from an IP gateway or directly from DVX bus. Only one IP gateway can be handled at a time but it is possible to handle devices under multiple gateways by entering the IP addresses manually. The element list with all the element data can be exported into a comma separated text file for further processing in spreadsheet or database applications. Embedded software download SmartLoader can download the embedded software into multiple HFC and headend devices. Both local and remote downloads are supported. For HFC devices both broadcast and unicast modes can be used, for Headend devices only unicast is available. It is even possible to use broadcast download to only selected transponders by utilising the special, ‘unicast start’ mode. This nicely combines the efficiency of broadcast mode with the flexibility of unicast mode. All Teleste HFC and Headend product families are supported, excluding the BK products. ACx spectrum analyser sweep file download In addition to embedded software downloads, SmartLoader can be used to download ACx spectrum analyser sweep files to selected transponders. Only unicast mode can be used for sweep file downloads as the sweep files are very small making unicast as efficient as broadcast. In addition to this, the same network segment usually uses a few different sweep files that must be downloaded separately.

SmartLoader User Interface Figure 1 shows a snapshot of SmartLoader GUI.
Figure 1 SmartLoader Graphical User Interface Supported connection types SmartLoader can connect to modules/products using three alternative communication methods: 1. Local serial bus type connection to DVX or BK Bus, either using a null modem cable via DVP PSU module or using the DVX021 RS-232 to RS485 converter. 2. Local point-to-point serial connection to module font panel RS-232 using a null modem cable. 3. Remote IP connection via Ethernet or via the local serial connection utilising the ‘Serial IP’ mode. Figure 2 shows the different local and remote communication options with the SmartLoader.

This enables for instance easy integration with CATVisor EMS 3.x. Computer and operating system requirements − − − − −

The downloaded executable can be copied and run from any Windows folder and it allows to examine the network elements. Two activation code options can be purchased: DLS101, device software download key for SmartLoader DLS102, device software and ACx spectrum file download key for SmartLoader
