CERTIFICATION SCOPE • ISO 9001:2008 • ISO/TS 16949:2009 • CRCC Technical Information We produce cable ties and fasteners with different types of polymers, which have specific features and an indication of use for various environments. SUMMARY 05 Technical Information 11 Standard Cable ties 16 Cable ties Accessories 21 Special Cable ties 29 Stainless Steel Cable ties 35 Fasteners 40 Cable Organizers 43 Heat Shrinkables 57 Connectors and Terminals 05 Technical Information Polyamide 6.6 properties Moisture index in polyamides Polyamides are thermoplastic synthetic materials that can be molded by heating without providing chemical decomposition or other changes in their properties. They are also known as Nylon, name used by Dupont, who synthesized the first polyamide in 1935 by the chemist Wallace Hume Carothers. Polyamide 6.6 has features that allow the manufacture of cable ties and fasteners with high tensile strength, mechanical strength; and desirable flexibility and surface hardness. It is the most common polyamide in the manufacture of FRONTEC cable ties and fasteners, because its characteristics are suitable for a high range of applications. PA 6.6 molecules are composed of two basic units with six carbon atoms in each of them: [-NH(CH2)6NH - CO(CH2)4CO-] The polyamides are hygroscopic materials, they absorb and release water. The moisture level of the cable ties is very important, because it affects their flexibility and their tensile strength. Polyamide 6.6 stabilizes its moisture index around 2.5% when subjected to a controlled atmosphere of 23 °C and 50% relative air humidity. The time required for the cable ties to acquire this moisture content ranges from 7 to 50 days depending on the dimensions of the piece. When the cable ties are used, the ideal is that its moisture content is around 2.5%. Once applied, once the trigger will be static in the grooves of the cable tie body, the changes in moisture index will not cause significant changes in the mechanical properties of the parts. FRONTEC cable ties and fasteners are packed in suitable plastic bags and are only sold in the market when its moisture index is around 2.5%. For this reason, it is recommended that products are kept in their original packages and used as soon as the packages are open.It is also recommended that, during the storage of cable ties and fasteners, the products do not suffer exposure to sun rays or are stored near heat sources. The ideal storage should be at 23 ° C with relative air humidity of 50%. Polyamide 4.6 properties Polyamide 4.6 has a high heat resistance without the need for adding special additives. It is used in the manufacture of FRONTEC cable ties and fasteners for use in environments with temperatures up to 135 °C with peaks up to 150 °C. PA 4.6 molecules are composed of two basic units with four carbon atoms in one of them and six in the other: [-NH(CH2)4NH - CO(CH2)4CO-] Raw material technical parameters Material Nylon 6.6 (PA6.6) Nylon 6.6 UV estabilizado a raios ultravioleta (PA6.6 UV) Nylon 6.6 HS estabilizado ao calor (PA6.6 HS) Nylon 6.6 V0 (PA6.6 V0) Nylon 4.6 (PA 4.6) 06 Operating Temperature -40ºC -40ºC -40ºC -40ºC 85ºC Flammability UL94 V2 Properties of the material UL94 V2 105ºC UL94 V2 - similar characteristics to PA 6.6, but with added durability at constant hight temperature applications; - recommended for close to vehicular engine applications. 85ºC UL94 V0 - similar characteristics to PA 6.6, and comply with UL 94V0 standard and low levels of toxic gas and acids generated by the fire. UL94 V2 - excellent chemical resistance; - higher rigidity and dimensional stability, even at hight temperatures. -40ºC 135ºC (picos de até 150ºC) The cable ties in the natural color (page 12) are not suitable for applications with exposure to sunlight for long periods of time. The cable ties in black (page 12) are doped with carbon black and, therefore, have a good resistance to ultraviolet rays (UV). Experience has shown good performance in sun exposure of up to 3 years. The cable ties with UV protection (page 13) are doped with special components that provide greater resistance to weathering and ultraviolet rays (UV), being indicated for applications exposed to sunlight for higher time. They are tested according to the ASTM G155:13 standards, that simulates a condition of approximately 10 years exposure to weather. The cable tie features (tensile strength, color, flexibility and texture) should remain unchanged after subjected to this test. To identify whether a cable tie in black has UV resistance or not, a faster and simpler assay can be done, consisting in tuning a part of the cable tie tape (between 0.2 and 0.3 mm) and look to the light through this area. The cable tie with UV protection does not allow light to pass through and the cable tie without UV protection is a little t ranslucent in tuned area. - high traction and abrasion resistance. - high mecanical resistance; - excellent flexibility and surface hardness. - similar characteristics to PA 6.6, but resistant to ultraviolet rays. - recommended for use in environments exposed to sunlight. 85ºC Cable ties with protection against ultraviolet rays (UV) UV Protection No UV Protection 07 Technical Information Strenght (Kgf) Temperature resistance The polyamides used for manufacturing cable ties are sensitive to high or low temperatures. Exposure to very high or low temperatures can break the molecular chain, causing low mechanical strength, fragility and sensitivity to vibration. The maximum temperature recommended for the installation of Polyamide 6.6 cable tie is 60 °C, however the maximum temperature of continuous use is 85 ºC. The minimum temperature for the use of polyamide 6.6 cable ties is -40 °C. However, when they are applied, it is recommended that the temperature is above -10 °C. When the cable ties are used in high temperature regime, it is recommended the use of cable ties produced with heat-stabilized polyamide 6.6 (PA 6.6 HS) or produced from polyamide 4.6. Sample Flammability The most popular standard for assessing the behavior of polymers against the flame is the UL 94 (Underwriters Laboratories). This test classifies the material based on the speed of combustion, the flame extinction time and the trend of flame propagation by dripping. Classification begins with the HB class, lower level, which identifies the material as low burning rate.V2, V1 and V0 classes identify materials as self-extinguishing. HB (horizontal burning)- According to UL 94, the material is classified as HB, considering two test samples: • Combustion of 38.1 mm/in for a 3.2 mm thick specimen. • Combustion of 63.5 mm/ min for a <3.2 mm thick specimen. V2 (vertical burning) - The flame is extinguished within 30 seconds with dripping. V1 (vertical burning) - The flame is extinguished within 30 seconds without dripping. V0 (vertical burning) - The flame is extinguished within 10 seconds without dripping. Traction resistance All cable ties lots produced by FRONTEC are tested by sampling. The results are available in reports containing the values obtained in each test. The minimum breakdown voltage is the load that a cable tie must support without the occurrence of its break. The cable tie is fixed on a mandrel with a diameter defined for each cable tie model. 08 Minimum Strenght The mandrel opens with constant speed. The load at which the cable tie breaks down is measured and recorded in software that provides the test data in charts as shown on the next page. The chart above represents the traction resistance test performed on 10 samples of the cable tie F7040.The minimum break voltage expected is 54.4 kgf and the result showed values close to 80 kgf (the result was 47% higher than specified in the catalog). Traceability All products manufactured by FRONTEC have individual traceability for production batch, covering the various stages of the production process with the following information: • Lot of raw materials (including the vendor’s report); • Used machine; • Operator and time of manufacture; • Injection parameters used in the manufacture; • Data from the gravimetric distributor informing the dosages of the raw material components; • Records with date and time of testing, verification, inspection, wastes, operators, setup and stops in the production; • Release report issued by the quality sector; • Storage location in stock; • Data related to the separation and billing (who separated the order, date, invoice number, customer etc.). Cable ties preservation For proper preservation of the cable tie, it is recommended to storage at a temperature between 10 and 40 °C and relative air humidity between 30% and 70%. The cable tie must be used as soon as possible after opening the packaging (plastic bag) if the humidity is below 30%. Avoid keeping the cable tie near heat sources, as this may change the humidity of cable ties and its features. Do not place or expose the cable ties in the ultraviolet (UV) rays, as they may change their structure, making them fragile. 09 Resistance to chemicals Chemicals such as acids, bases, salts, alcohols, phenols, gas, among others, may deteriorate the raw material used in the cable tie, changing its properties and life cycle.
