PROFESSIONAL LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEMS The more you’re preoccupied with the small things the bigger they appear to be. This way or other you can imagine the engineers’ work at this small successful company situated in the Westfalian Werther in Germany. With GAE it’s the interaction of the tiny details that creates innovations. Since 25 years GAE has been one of the biggest participants/competitors in the acoustic branch, allowing itself only one piece of luxury: a character of it’s own. This is reflected as well in the products and the great variety of projects maintained in Germany an abroad as in the quantity of professional event-services that make use of GAE-products. There is only one thing more important than sound pressure: control. That’s why the electronic components as well as the performed enclosures and drivers are applicable to extreme conditions und promise unlimited usability. With GAE innovations start in the brain then going ahead to perfection. There are speakers mirroring our times and there are ones being ideal visions. The GAE Director System (with so called TwinCoaxPointSource Technology) for instance does not reflect modern times but represents a paradigm big speaker-builders model on. In future this company not only wants to accomplish the present but to make visions come true. It actually is being worked on new systems which -again by the interaction of details- will become innovations! WaveLine Sublow Director System ProStage Monitor Translation of „Produktkatalog GAE“ WAVELINE Flexible Contouring by Vertical Character. Being in the top ranking concerning performance and quality of the GAE-range WaveLine loudspeakers convince outstandingly and define new benchmarks in the field of sound engineering. An extensive bandwidth of scaling, highly efficient applications and a remarkably simple operability allow a multitude of challenging sound engineering solutions. WAVELINE The GAE Director Waveline line-array system represents the result of an intensive physical and economic investigation into the market necessities in the field of touring and installation. Based on the experience of users and consultants a huge variety of approaches have been considered. The essence of these reflections builds special options for the development and – designing the Waveline System – has been put into practice: The combination of two 10” Neodymium transducers of the low-/mid range, each incorporating a 3” voice coil, allows a very low crossover frequency, which raises drastically the power handling capacity. This way the Waveline System is suitable for non-restrictive full range use. The GAE HF-PhaseEQ coupled to a high power 2” Neodymium-driver achieves an accurate and highly exact sound conduction in the high-tone range, which results in an extended high frequency bandwidth. The construction determines an extremely low crossover frequency to the compression driver which optimizes the horizontal dispersion of the system. Because of the high radiation-resistance the overall system comes up with an outstanding mid-tone performance. As the double-10”construction enables a low tuning frequency of 80Hz, a smooth transition to a subwoofer, employed in ground stacking, is guaranteed. Beyond that the GAE Waveline System displays an enormous efficiency in full range application. Deduced from the experiences made with the twin-coaxial principle used with the GAE Director Top an extremely exact symmetric dispersion will be established in the Waveline System. The overall construction is left/right symmetric, thus a concise utilization for the user and fitter results. Translation of „Produktkatalog GAE“ WAVELINE Furthermore the development aimed at the realization of an economic array-length-/prizeproportion. To reach this goal each Waveline element has been outfitted with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms in the high- as well as in the low-/mid-tone range, thus three elements can be operated at one amplifier. In this way by the help of only three elements and one amplifier a vertical angle of 30° can be achieved as minimal configuration. This elemental set-up can be extended with further Waveline elements. By employing modern system controllers the peripheral electronics equipment can be limited to a sensible measure. Users already owning a GAE Director System can easily make use of the Waveline System as the pre-existing ampracks can be operated compatibly. The only item needed additionally is an 8-pin-CaCom adapter box on Neutrik 4pin-Speakon. For flying mechanics only high quality and determinate materials are applied. The load distribution is forwarded solely in the flight elements. Apart from locking quick release pins no bulk parts are needed. The very discreet flying mechanic is let in the loudspeaker’s enclosure without attracting attention. On request the handles on the front can be removed and the lateral recesses covered. The whole process of mounting- and demounting has been optimally matched to all user’s demands. Translation of „Produktkatalog GAE“ WAVELINE GAE WaveLine-system's rigging mechanics together with the flying-cradle are certified according to Germans BGV-C1 and DIN 18800. An analysis of strength can be achieved by a free-of-charge software (GAE's Flying Calculator) which shows easily the legality of your rigging tasks. The stack-cradle together with the attached outriggers enable the mounting of up to 6 WaveLine elements as ground-stacking. The frame of the stack-cradle fits to GAE's basses BR118, BR218, Director-Bass and DirectorSingle-Bass and enables a secure mounting of 3 WaveLine elements. For simulation and calculating of acoustical configurations GAE provides the EASE Focus Aiming Software from SDA (Software Design Ahnert GmbH). The EASE Focus Aiming Software is a twodimensional acoustic simulation software that serves for the configuration and modelling of LineArrays close to reality. Ease Focus and the specific product file (GAEWaveLine.efo) together with GAE's Flying Calculator are available as free download from GAE’s web-site. Translation of „Produktkatalog GAE“ WAVELINE GAE’s WaveLine PT Bass is a high power subwoofer system, equipped with a 12" high performance sub low loudspeaker, equipped with a 4" voice coil and an extremely heavyduty Neodymium engine. The system captivates with high efficiency within it’s extended low frequency range, which was achieved by a very special tunnel geometry. In this way the system features a remarkable low frequency efficiency/housing dimension ratio. The system offers a high dynamic behaviour, generated by using a significantly adjusted parameter’s loudspeaker with high magnetic flux. The WaveLine PT Bass can be combined as top flown element with WaveLine PT ele-ments within a line, as well as a separate and parallel hung bass-line with a couple of PT Bass systems. Used with the stack cradle the PT Bass serves as basic element at the bottom of the line. The impedance of 8 ohms enables a parallel operating of 3 WaveLine PT Bass systems at one channel of a modern high power amplifier. The system is designed to be operated by a standard configurated third path of a 3-way system, also parallel driven to a standard bass ground support. No special equalization is necessary, thus a simple parallel combination with all of GAE’s BR-types is possible. The very discreet flying mechanism is housed in the loudspeaker’s enclosure without attracting attention. On request the handles on the front can be removed. The shape relates just to 2 elements WaveLine PT. Special editions without handles or special colours i.e. for fixed installations are possible. This axial symmetrical setting provides an optimum to solve numerous sound challenges. The enormous acoustical capacity together with excellent high dynamics enable a usage of simply one unit per side as FOH system or as nearfill within large WaveLine- or WaveLine-PT applications. The nominal impedance of 6 ohms for the low/mid and high range performs an optimal load for the driving power amplifier, even for the usage of two parallel systems at each channel. The extraordinary compactness of WaveLine Pack is realized by an extremely tight constructive alignment of the six 6,5“ low/mid and the three 1,4“ compression drivers. Furthermore the combination of six 6,5” Neodymium transducers of the low-/mid range, each incorporating an 1,5” voice coil, allows a low crossover frequency. Therefore the Waveline Pack System is suitable for full range use in special applications. High efficiency Neodymium magnets will make a extremely convenient power/weight ratio. Based on the experiences of the twin-coaxialprinciple applied in the GAE-WaveLine- and WaveLine-PT-systems, WaveLine Pack provides the well-known exact symmetrical dispersion. From the acoustical experiences based on the WaveLine-PT system the dynamics concept could be proven without any limitations. Therefore the logical consequence was the downsizing to a compact stand-alone unit. Maintaining the same high efficiency and dynamic standard, a new "simple-to-handle" system could be achieved. Translation of „Produktkatalog GAE“ WAVELINE In respect to installation the understated and were reduced to a the special demands of appearance was designed reluctant, mechanical parts minimum. The orientation to the best possible road capability is demonstrated in the sophisticated method of loudspeaker alignment as well as in the elaborated mounting parts and optional rigging assemblies. Ergonomically designed handles at the top and bottom sides pander to a simple erection of the WaveLine-Pack-systems. By means of GAE's system setups for modern digital controllers WaveLine Pack presents an outstanding powerful PA-sound reinforcement system, which is plug and play easy to use, but also a unique product in respect of flexibility, compactness, operational reliability - by consideration of highest standards of sound! The elegant optical appearance reflects the highest quality performance of the complete system. Therefore the system is suited for Gala-applications, fixed installations or in general for usage in sensitive surroundings. A special finish or colour for fixed installation is possible on request. The system was designed as a compact single unit to enable a precise acoustical irradiation within complex acoustical and constructional environments. The GAE HF-Phase-EQ coupled to a high power 1,4” Neodymium-driver achieves an accurate and highly exact sound transmission in the high-tone range, which results in an extended high frequency bandwidth. As the technical construction enables a low crossover frequency between the high and low-mid range, the horizontal dispersion behaviour of the WaveLine Pack was optimized. GAE WaveLine Pack's total performance represents the currently highest state of sound technology. Translation of „Produktkatalog GAE“ WAVELINE The mounting bracket construction enables either a direct assembly on bass systems or a usage as flying rigging yoke. A metal-to-metaldesign guarantees highest safety standard. Mounting the unit in fixed installations the locking handles can be replaced by metric screws. The heads of the screws can be covered nearly invisible with black or coloured plastic caps. For a gentle mobile application flight cases for one or two units are available. The threaded mounting flanges within the side walls of the housing are optically restrained. The complete handling is simple and optimized. The systems have been developed on the basis of the latest achievements and materials thus a long product cycle is guaranteed. Highest acoustic capacities meet a compact construction thereby allowing an economic application of materials so that practically all demands can be satisfied. From the stacked stand-alone-system up to the flown cluster-application the Director-system convinces with the highest degree of flexibility and tonal experience. DIRECTOR TOP GAE Director Top is a 2-way-active, 60° x 40° twin-coaxial high “Q” loudspeaker system comprising two specially constructed 12” cone drivers with 4” voice coil diameter, 220mm ceramic magnets and a 1,4” Neodymium-compression driver with 3” titan membrane in a horn loading. The outstandingly compact high tone driver allows an extremely tight installation of the loudspeaker’s chassis. Thereby the 12” horn drivers are mounted as close as possible above each other whereas the compact horn/driver combination is located in the middle and directly in front of the drivers. This grouping is acoustically perfect and achieved by a very elegant construction. Only a few screws have to be disconnected and the backside of the Director Top can be removed, thus a quick access to the system driver is obtained. With the help of a high voltage plug the rear cover including the connection terminal can be dismounted which simplifies the service. The mid horn’s mouth spans the whole front side. Two phase plugs which are installed in front of the mid tone drivers ensure an optimal compression rate. To avoid interfering reflections the form of the phase plugs has been optimised in a way that together with the high frequency horn they build a homogeneous unity. This way sound parts which are deflected at the edge of the HF-horn are kept from colliding with the middle horn thereby creating interferences. The hemispheric ends of the phase plugs barricade the way of misguided reflections which leads to an early and diffuse diversion without negative consequences for the frequency- and impulse response. Due to this elaborate mechanical construction an outstanding frequency response of the mid- and high-tone bandwidth is achieved. The interaction of the different construction parts produces a perfectly symmetrical directivity. Additionally the HF-driver is electronically protected against DC and acoustical pressure load. The components are protected by a stable front grill which is backed with acoustic foam. All these constructive and technical details add up to an extraordinary size/power proportion. These sound reinforcement systems represent an enormous flexibility as well as a perfect design and up-to-date acoustic characteristics. The loudspeakers assimilate to their environment – always offering a brilliant acoustic result. Because it’s the interaction of the small details that makes visions become innovations. System 6 The GAE System 6 is an extremely compact passive 2-way system with high power capacity. Because of it’s manageable and unintrusive construction the loudspeaker is applicable to a great number of tasks. The 6” transducer is vented and enables high loading capacity. The high frequencies are transmitted by a horn-loaded 1” compression driver. This combination produces a convincingly natural sound and a perfect audibility. In comparison with other high frequency loudspeakers the System 6 produces significantly less distortion at high sound pressure levels. An elaborate passive crossover subdivides the input signal in low/mid and high frequency range thereby providing an extraordinarily mellow and natural sound. By the help of the backwards enclosurechamber the parameters of the 18’’ driver are exactly adjusted to the acoustic situation of the pressure chamber and the sound conduction. The acoustical resistance thus obtained damps the driver optimally and produces a frequency specter largely expanded to the low specter without bothersome resonances. By stacking several ETAMAXs this effect is redoubled, leading to a major horn construction unsurpassed in sound and power. ETAMAX reproduces low frequencies exactly, powerfully and with noticeable directivity. It is especially apt to back up far-ranging sound systems (as for instance GAE’s WaveLine) in the bass range. GAE’s uncompromising bass horn construction is called ETAMAX. It allows the reproduction of low frequencies with a minimum distortion and high sound pressure levels. The particular economy of this bass horn construction becomes apparent with big sound engineering challenges as the usual number of high power amplifiers can be drastically reduced. The operation of an "ideal" 30 Hz horn (6 pieces of ETAMAX) with a total impedance of 2x 2.7 ohms and an appropriate 2 channel amplifier is highly economic. As the complex parts of the impedance virtually vanish into thin air such an application offers a perfect resistance to the amplifier. The toll taken by these special ETAMAX construction-characteristics rests with its dimensions, but the ingenious positioning of the 10 handholds simplifies the handling. Aluminum fixing bolts in the top and the bottom of the enclosure close to its back guarantee a save stacking. The enclosure is sumptuously built of high quality multi-layered birch-ply and sealed with a black structure varnish by standard. Different RAL colours are available. The loudspeaker’s baffle and it’s components are protected by a solid metal front grill which is backed with an opaque acoustic foam. Monitors have the capacity to sound great – this is proverbial with GAE. Paired with an outstanding performance GAE-monitors ever since belong to the universal instrument of stage engineering. Dressed up in a superior design the monitor becomes the gem of each stage. Zoom 12 Laid-out as low-profile-enclosure the Zoom 12 impresses with optic elegance and extreme potential: curved lines dominate and are carried forward even to the handholds, high performance Neodymiumloudspeakers containing 4’’ voice coils provide boundless acoustic power. The uncompromising active control is brought to perfection by a detailed tuning of the parameters. The dispersion properties of the Zoom 12 are geared to praxis. A special horn contour achieves a clearly defined listening range, beyond this focus the acoustic pressure declines evenly. Extreme sound level reserves are gained by the application of 4’’ voice coils in the low and high frequency range, breaking way to the highest performance. Especially strong Neodymium magnets and optimized controller parameters for an ideal adjustment of the loudspeakers provide for an excellent dynamic. The construction specialties of the 12’’ chassis allow a simple equalization. The extremely small enclosure is easy to be carried and impresses by a high stability providing the well-known GAE-enclosure qualities. The monitor is offered optionally as right or left version which enables a symmetrical positioning. Threaded flanges offer horizontal mounting by using an optional yoke. You can be sure that before and after its installation each particular component has been thoroughly tested. GAE’s quality standards are that strict that only especially chosen suppliers are able to meet them. Before leaving the production each product is tested on technical faults individually. Please refer to your distributor’s appointments regarding warranty on GAE products. SOLIDBOX-DESIGN With GAE all enclosures are built and developed according to state-of the-art mechanical criteria. This piece of masterwork recompenses its owner by an extremely long life-cycle. Only high quality birch multiplex with a high complexity is used, as each single layer is turned by 90° an outstanding stiffness is guaranteed. Even the material thickness is matched to the loudspeaker’s requirements layers of 15 – 36mm thickness are employed. All baffles are additionally attached to the enclosure by a special groove/feather construction. HIGH EFFICIENCY CROSSOVER DESIGN offers a supreme degree of efficiency, an optimal overlap of the frequencies and a time correction. This way an enormous frequency response at alert-levels and a high degree of freedom for the tonal adjustment of the whole system is ensured. SR-PROTECTION Each GAE crossover network is optimized for the driver employed and offers a high power handling capacity. The HF driver is protected by a maintenance free overloading-limiter (after being activated it returns to normal on its own) which guarantees a high operational safety. V/H ADJUST HF-HORN The HF compression driver is attached to a 90° x 75° horn. The horn’s construction allows a 90° rotation thus the irradiation characteristics can be adjusted to a horizontal or vertical employment. DIRECT METAL MOUNTING Each mounting of a vertical yoke follows the principle: metal to metal. The threads employed are constructed in a way that allows the yoke to be attached to a metal part connected with the thread. There are no metal/wood contacts otherwise this would mean a loss in stability with the time of usage. TWIN COAX The outstandingly compact high tone driver allows an extremely tight installation of the loudspeaker’s chassis. Thereby the 12” horn drivers are mounted as close as possible above each other whereas the compact horn/driver combination is located in the middle and directly in front of the drivers. Only by this grouping real spot-acoustic-source is enabled. 16 OHMS An input impedance of 16ohms allows the application of several systems to one amplifier’s channel without damaging the amplifier. For an easy parallel connection according to the Daisy-ChainPrinciple the loudspeaker system offers connectors of the Neutrik NL4 Speakon – type. Translation of „Produktkatalog GAE“ GLOSSARY RDH (Rain Drain Handle) A special construction of the carrying recesses guarantees the draining of accidentally poured rainwater – no matter whether the systems are used standing or lying. OUTER FRAME If two loudspeaker systems are flown beneath each other, the integrated lifting studs are extremely stressed. Commonly drive-in nuts are integrated into the enclosure, which then (together with the top respectively the bottom) have to carry the whole weight of the construction. Using such a construction very often means to leave legal ways, disregarding security-concerns. GAE offers the so-called Outer Frame Construction: the fittings lie above the enclosures like a frame , carrying the weight of the loudspeaker installed below. MAX.AB The optimised enclosure design offers a 90% utilization of the loudspeaker’s front as emitter – consisting of loudspeaker membrane and resonator’s vent. The ventilation channels have been arranged in a way that allows them to stiffen the enclosure and at the same time cool the drivers’ magnets. HIGH STATIC SYMMETRICAL LOAD Both driver chassis are symmetrically enclosed by a novel ventilation channel and the side walls and thereby symmetrically loaded. Because of this construction swaying movements of the membrane are reduced to a minimum whereas the output power is raised to a maximum. The huge ventilation channel ensures an excellent bass reflex effectiveness without compression effects and at the same time compounds the baffle’s static. FLEXIBLE STACKING The GAE BR systems are outfitted with different “footprints”, which allow a flexible mounting of several full-range/subwoofer loudspeakers.
