PROFILE OF THE BLOCK UDHAMPUR Block Udhampur of District Udhampur is the biggest block with head quarter at Kaller Udhampur. The block is situated in the south west side of the District Udhampur and is bounded by block Chenani on its East, Majalta on its West, block Panchari on its north East side. The geographical and demographic features of the block Udhampur envisage that this block is hilly, spread over undulating hills. The total area according to available revenue records of newly carved out block (after the transfer of 8 Panchayats to District Reasi) is 33009 hectares. Out of which 1987 hectares is the Irrigated area and 15087 hectares is the cropped area. Most of the population of the block depends on Agriculture and allied sectors as source of their livelihood, although the activities under these sectors are carried on primitive patterns that too, in rain fed conditions. Rice, Maize, Wheat, pulses fruits, vegetables etc, are the main food crops of the block. Regarding climate, Block Udhampur experiences a very pleasant weather. It is mild during summers and cold during winters. Some times some areas of the Block Udhampur received mild snowfall during winter. Comprising of 46 Panchayats and 88 census villages (2 uninhabited). The block has total population of 187343 souls. Out of which 35536 belong to scheduled caste and 10670 scheduled tribes at present. The total No. of households is 16123. The Literacy rate of the block as per census 2011 stands at 81.12 %. There are 332 Panch constituencies in block Udhampur. It has 58 irrigation channels, 18 Roads, 566 B .Paths and 546 other Pyts. Assets maintained by the Rural Development Deptt. Only 28 Pyts. Ghar. The block has a good network of Education and banking facilities also. Presently 37 branches of several banks are available in block Udhampur. The Jammu –Udhampur Railway line which entered in this block at village Darsoo, is having the highest bridge in Asia continent over Nalla Dudar in Panchayat Roun. Village Garnai of Panchayat Garnai has been developed as Model village in block Udhampur with modern facilities for rural people of the area in order to bridge the big gap between the living standards of rural and the urban people. The Air Force station which is situated in Pyt. Kashirah is just three Kilo metres away from block Head quarter. The Pyt. Sundrani has been fully covered under total sanitation programme and President of India has Awarded Rs. 2.00 lac as NIRMAL GRAM PURSKAR 2008.

Chapter II Climate Data on rainfall is recorded at rain gauge station located at Air Force station near Mian Bagh Udhampur. The data recorded on the rain gauge for the Block Udhampur for the year is exhibited in this chapter. .

CHAPTER VII Live stock Livestock rearing is an important occupation of the village folks in general and migratory population in particular. As per 18th livestock census the total livestock population of the block Udhampur accounts for 102094 livestock head. Every effort is been made to give proper health coverage and breeding facilities so as to improve the health and quality of the animals. Information on livestock population, health and breeding programme, Number of animals and institutions existing, preventive measures and operation performed etc. is given in this chapter.
