Welcome to the tenth season of Sommarscen Malmö!
Summer is here and with it Sommarscen Malmö. During eight weeks lots of exciting shows and concerts will go on stage somewhere close to you. In this guide you can read more on what´s up at Sommarscen Malmö and get inspired. Furthermore, on our website www.sommarscen.se , you´ll find updated information on our program and more images to look at. We want to offer edgy performances that shake you up, invoke thoughts and feelings, or simply give you a relaxed moment for yourself or together with a friend. It´s our wish you´ll find as many acts as possible appealing, but we also encourage you to visit other parts of the city and explore something you normally wouldn´t. Meet people you usually don´t and amaze yourself of what can happen by doing so.

Who doesn’t want a secret box with everything from twittering birds to a remote control that turns on an entire string quartet? In Sexton Strängar’s musical show the audience quickly becomes part of the fun with the help of clever ideas, singing and dancing. Family performance. Sat. Tues.
Kom och se: Esters varieté! with Teater Fenix
The audience is seated, the curtains are drawn, but the stage remains empty. The artists have left! Only the cleaning lady Ester and the tuba player Rudolf – and the audience of course – are still here. Ester decides to create her own variety show. DJ Klorofyll, Super Kirschkål and their friends – the dancing acrobatic flowers from the beds of Big Winds – serve up a musical flower relay that refuses to stay put. Beautiful and anarchistic about flowers that sweep along our parks. Family performance.
Kollision with Kollektiv Knaster
Among paper, briefcases and buttoned up suits four structured characters do everything in their power to maintain order. But beneath the surface something is brewing that makes everyday life more and more difficult and absurd. Playful and thoughtful for the whole family. Emma Nordenstams bästa barnlåtar
Why do some people insist on kissing? Can you throw sausages at your dad? What was it like before I was born? With great presence Emma Nordenstam performs her groovy, sad and funny songs. Pink pastej with Dotterbolaget
Pink pastej is the story of the friendship between Anita and Ingel and how they find each other in a sea of others. Two clowns portray the great drama that is friendship with physical humour. There is room for all the big 6

Krasch with Dockteatern Tittut
An air balloon has crashed in the park! Hidden underneath the cloth is Lilla Frö, a small creature, round and furry with big eyes and tiny paws. Lilla Frö takes the audience along for an adventure with the giant Earth and the friends Fire, Air and Water. A newly written play with big dolls and big sounds for the small ones. From 2 years old. Faunan och jag with Minna Krook Dans
Minna Krook divides animals into three categories – the ones she finds icky, the ones she doesn’t understand at all and the ones she is afraid of. She wants to like animals, but she can’t. Three dancers ponder what it is like to be an animal to the sounds of nature and the animal kingdom. A dance performance that eats you up. From 6 years old. Sun.

One day there is a knock on the door. An unfamiliar woman with fur hats on her feet and bird poop on her jacket is standing in the staircase asking to be let in. Baby Yaga is a newly written fairytale by Sara Tuss Efrik about the girl Natalia who has an unsafe home environment, but with imagination and playfulness encounters the unknown. Come along on a journey into space! Sun Ra was born on Saturn. Here on earth he became known as the jazz musician, composer, orchestra leader and philosopher Sun Ra (1914–1993). A music performance about Sun Ra, his life, his ideas and being different. Told as a story for young and old alike by Elena Smon Wolay. In collaboration with Jazz i Malmö.

Bröderna Lindgren treat young souls to mature music. They may have won a Swedish Grammy for “Children album of the year” but if you hear children’s music or playful adult music depends on how old you are. Crisálida with Memory Wax
In the dance show Crisálida the Malmö based dance company Memory Wax, together with Danza Teatro Retazos from Cuba, explore the meaning of dreams and desire for freedom. Contemporary dance with elements of hip hop, air dance, pantomime and folklore mixed together to create contrasting characters. A show about belonging and identity portrayed with humour and poetry. Aziza Brahim
Aziza Brahim is a singer and actor from Western Sahara that has been celebrated all over the world for her emotional music and political lyrics. She was born in a refugee camp and her music is often influenced by the situation in the Western Sahara. Now she visits Malmö after frequent bookings at the world’s biggest music festivals for the last couple of years. Tues. 16 june

A vocal performance on water! An actor, a singer and a pianist are floating on a piano towards the future looking for survivors. In their new show Teater InSite combines classical music, performance and dramatic art to get us to talk about the future of our planet. During the spring Re:Orient has launched a new ensemble – The Nordic Ishrak Ensemble – uniting some of the most prominent musicians of Syria and Iraq. After lending her voice to artists such as Lykke Li and arranging clubs in Stockholm for several years, Naomi Pilgrim steps into the limelight and the evening sun at Pildammsteatern. Unexpected stories, from unexpected bodies, in unexpected places. In C me dancers, with and without physical challenges, meet in a unique collaboration between Skånes Dansteater, Teater Teamus, Kulturcentrum Skåne and Aktiva Tjejer. Halawella
Halawella is an experimenting, playful and political duo that is bubbling with musical love. Now Malmö gets a taste of one of the most exciting acts of the Lebanese underground scene, combining traditional Arabic music, hip hop and electronica. The acclaimed singer and radio host Miriam Aïda once again invites all you singalong happy people to an hour of hits from the past. Her house band plays everything from Swedish ditties and Scanian reggae to American soul songs and eighties hits. Art Melody is a rapper, wordsmith and singing taxi driver from Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. He is one of the most promising names in the young African hip hop scene and his music is an innovative combination of ouaga blues, hip hop and traditional music from the region. Ayla Shatz + Moonbabies + Ramy Essam Long live he local and multifarious music scene in Malmö. Ayla Shatz’s urban music is a mixture of all possible sounds, scales and feelings. Heavy backbeat and synths unite with melodies from all corners of the world. Moonbabies is finally back in Malmö with their headstrong electronic indie dream pop and sure instinct for melodies, depth and drama.
Hold
In the delicate duet Hold there is a meeting beyond norms and clichés. The dancers Anton Borgström and Robin Sundberg, together with choreographer Erik Linghede, seek out the tissue and emotional space of the body. Ung urban dans x 3
1 up is a dance interpretation of a video game world with levels and frags. Is it a battle of life and death or a mirror of a social structure where we are all cogs in the machinery? With a foundation in hip hop aesthetics the duet Hold examines the human longing for closeness and intimacy. The dancers Anton Borgström and Robin Sundberg, together with choreographer Erik Linghede, seek out the tissue and emotional space of the body. A taste from the show.
With just a guitar Ramy Essam stood on the Tahrir Square in front of two million protesters and performed the song that would become the hymn of the Egyptian revolution. Now the City of Refuge musician meets the audience of his new hometown.
The street dance collective Above the Clouds has arrived in Malmö and hosts the mighty dance battle that closes out the evening. Swag along when dance styles such as breaking, popping, locking, house, dancehall and samba are shown and get ready to scream – the audience decides who wins the battle of Pildammarna!

The stand-up comedy club Oslipat has invited none other than Emil Jensen to a musical comedy show. The best comics of Oslipat do stand-up inspired by an Emil Jensen song of their choice before the artist himself performs it. Hilarious humour and great severity where comedy and music merge to bring new meaning to Emil Jensen’s lyrics. The guest comics of the evening are Josefin Johansson, Moa Lundqvist, Matilda Berggren, Fritte Fritzson and Marcus Johansson. Sun.

Lisa Le Blanc is a multi-talented musician and singer-songwriter from Montreal that describes her music as folk-trash. With roots in dancehall, reggae and afro beats Aurelia Dey adds hip hop and neo soul to create her own style of music – afropop. She toys with stereotypes, seduces, raps, sings and produces. Welcome to a decadent “oh no, that’s not possible” magic show with Malin Nilsson and Markus Zink. In the mysterious and intimate Borggården there will be at least one decapitation, several homemade magic boxes, raw onions and obstinate confetti throwing in a celebration of 150 years of magic. Fri.

Blind Lake
Lotta Wenglén and Måns Wieslander explore love, death, divorce and everyday experiences through a skewed lens. The music exudes 70s harmonies, melancholy and melodic intimacy. Now they come to Sommarscen’s new venue at Glasbrukskajen and become the soundtrack to the Sommarscen party. Food trucks are on location already at 8 pm. Electronic at the castle
Kontra-musik + TM404 aka Andreas Tilliander Oh, well. What is a ball at the castle? Ulf Eriksson, the brains of the record label Kontra-musik, has invited one of his favourites to a Sommarscen party at the castle courtyard. The love of dub and analogue music machines is the common thread in the musical creations of Andreas Tilliander. So also in his latest project, TM404, a lauded project that has taken him around the world. Here Andreas Tilliander builds warm soundscapes with the help of classic Roland synths and drum machines. The concert is brightened, and darkened, by the creations of light and video artist Martin Onassis. Ulf Eriksson parks himself behind the wheels of steel for the first hour and serves up house and techno that dare to go into the unknown. Fri.

Now she returns to Malmö with her latest project The Nubatones that consists of some of the most prominent musicians of Egypt. Blues with a lot of heart – Songhoy Blues is Mali’s hottest rock band and next great music export. Jafar with friends + José Pereelanga band + Tarabband After the film Berättelser från Malmö the main characters take to the stage. Jafar Hasan Aboud is a famous composer and musician in his former native country of Iraq. This evening he performs with parts of the band Mazguf Ensemble and friends. Nadin Al khalidi, also from Iraq, is the singer of the group Tarabband. In recent years they have scored a big hit in the Middle East with the song ”Baghdad Choby”. José Pereelanga has just released his debut solo album ”Varma Kitoko”. He is originally from Congo where he has performed with greats such as Madilu System and Zaiko Langa Langa. Optimisterna is an unusual volleyball team from Hamar in Norway. The team consists of women aged from 66 to 98 and have trained together for forty years. Now they have grown tired of training. They want to play a real match. And rumour has it that there is a Swedish male team where the oldest member is only 90 years old. The team Krutgubbarna accepts the challenge and Optimisterna sets out on an unforgettable journey. This documentary won the Audience Award at Nordisk Panorama 2014.
