Some of the country’s top universities even had to close because the protests became so big. Black students in South Africa say because their families earn less, the proposed increase in tuition fees takes away the opportunity for them to get further education. They say inequality is still a big problem in South Africa, more than two decades after the end of apartheid in 1994. Listen to these students speaking to news channel CCTV Africa. Students: Education in South Africa has become so expensive. We cannot afford these fees; it’s just too high for us. We are poor. As an average black student, me and my future kids and the people who come after me, are not going to be able to study.
