PROHIBITED OR CONTROLLED ARTICLES OR SUBSTANCES
Dear Parent/Guardian On entering the secure unit all staff, visitors and young people will be reminded that there are specified prohibited items that are not allowed into the unit. A list of these items will be posted at reception. The Duty Officer & Control room staff will ensure that all firmly adhere to the policy and procedure. It is important that NO prohibited items enter the unit as this may cause a security and safety breach resulting in injury or self-harm, putting young people, staff and visitors at risk. The list is not exhaustive and includes the following items: o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o

We would also ask that you refrain from bringing pre-cooked/prepared food items, such as Mc Donald’s, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Greggs, supermarket ready meals, to name but a few into the Secure Unit. This decision is not intended to disadvantage or completely stop young people from accessing carryout meals. It is our intention to make alternative arrangements to allow young people to access such items. Confectionary/soft drinks, including Easter Eggs, Selection Boxes, Birthday Cakes, which are brought in by visitors from outside, will be prohibited from entering the secure unit and will be returned to you at the reception area. These items will all be made available to young people by St Mary’s staff or through alternative arrangements with parents/families and guardians to celebrate special occasions and events. The vending machine is available to purchase confectionery and soft drinks or through the young person’s pocket money account and through monies handed in at visits. All monies/permitted items must be handed to the control room team and a receipt will be provided.
