SOPHISTICATED CHIC The Dutchbone design team wholeheartedly agrees that “Sophisticated Chic” is the trend of the moment. Think sultry dark colours, soft snuggly materials, cushions in different patterns with lots of gold, and flora and fauna prints on the wall. Wondering how to apply the “Sophisticated Chic” trend to your own interior? Choose ochre yellow, dark greens, dark blue and old pink for your sofa, lounge chair or cushions. These colours can also be used in a ‘ton-sur-ton’ scheme, which basically involves using different shades of the same colour. Current prints are full of graphic patterns with a nod to times gone by. From vintage to Renaissance, the patterns and stripes all have their origin in previous centuries. The latest styles of wallpaper reveal lots of prints reminiscent of peacock eyes and peacock feathers, with dark green and dark blue prevailing here as well. Would you like a more edgy look? Simply use photo wallpaper depicting distressed walls or dark wooden panels from an abandoned barn. Besides wallpaper you can also opt for an easier solution: paint. An entire wall painted in ochre yellow looks stunning with velvet furniture. Create a statement by hanging a large painting on the painted wall. Nature- based motifs such as large birds, parrots and flamboyant peacocks are particularly hot right now.
