Key Basic Functions for the Teacher Power Press the POWER button on the SDP-860 panel or remote control to activate the unit. A blue status light will illuminate around the Power button. The initial boot-up screen will appear providing information on the status of the following items: 1) Current digital presenter settings 2) Current screen capture settings 3) Operational status of the SD Memory card and system. Note – A SD Memory card is not required to use the 860 document camera. You can save images directly using the USB cable from the doc cam to your laptop if you have the 860 software installed. More details on this will be presented later in this guide. 5
INT/EXT (Internal/External) Press INT/EXT button to toggle between doc cam (INT)and computer (EXT) modes. Brightness / Zoom / Focus Wheel
Adjust the Brightness to the desired setting by using the UP/DOWN Buttons found on the control panel or remote. The LED lamp can be turned on or off by pressing the LAMP button. If glare occurs when viewing glossy materials, either turn off the lamp or use the included diffuser sheet. Adjust the brightness as needed.
Press the LEFT/RIGHT Buttons found on the control panel to reduce or enlarge the image to the desired size. The on screen display will indicate the zoom range - Blue Gauge = optical zoom, Red Gauge = digital zoom. The Optical zoom will automatically stop at 6x. Press the zoom button again to continue with Digital zoom (up to 8x maximum). Auto focus will occur after zooming has stopped in all modes. Use the FREEZE button to “hold” any image on screen while you change your subject or to Freeze an object in any position. Tip: You can use the computer monitor as a live preview display when connected via the USB while using the Freeze feature on the SDP-860. You can also adjust the default to Freeze both the live image and the computer image by pressing the Menu button.
The LAMP is important because it is the quickest way to brighten your document or object. The Samsung 860 by factory default has Automatic White Balance (AWB) built-in through an Auto Tracking setting. This means that when you place a document, book or object on the white presentation station, it will usually color balance the subject very quickly without the teacher needing to make any adjustments. Tip: If any color adjustments need to me made when displaying a new item, the simplest solution is to simply turn the lamp off and then back on and this will cause the doc cam to white balance itself.
Not So Important The MF (Manual Focus) /AWB (Auto White Balance) button can generally be ignored by most teachers as they won’t need to manually focus as Auto Focus takes care of that and Auto White Balance is also automatically set up for Auto Tracking from the factory.
