Codan Broadcast’s PV-10 and PV-2 modular interface frames and power supply systems provide cost effective housing solutions for Codan Broadcast’s PV Series of interface products. Up to 10 interface modules may be accommodated in the PV-10 frame, and 2 interface modules may be accommodated in the PV-2 frame.
PV-10 The PV-10 modular interface frame features dual redundant switch mode power supplies and can accommodate up to 10 PV Series interface modules. The frame is 100% compatible with all Codan Broadcast PV Series interface modules and
features active cooling via three low-noise cooling fans in the front panel. The PV-10-S features a single switch mode power supply and can accommodate up to 10 PV Series interface modules. A second switch mode power supply can be added later if required with no down time.
PV-2 The PV-2 modular interface frame has a single linear power supply and can accommodate two standard PV Series interface cards. Users may mix any PV Series interface modules within this housing.
Fast and easy installation All PV Series interface modules are separately fused and regulated, which enables power consumption and heat loading to be evenly distributed across the frame. Installing a PV Series interface module is achieved by simply installing the rear connector assembly into the backplane; two screws are used to secure the rear connector to the frame. This backplane buses all the supply rails to the interface modules. All frames are supplied complete with card guides and interface
module backplane connectors. The module is then installed from the front. This operation can be completed whilst the frame is powered. Input AC power to all frame housing options are 240 V AC or 110 V AC selectable. Power is supplied via a standard IEC connector. An IEC plug retention spring clip ensures that the IEC cable(s) cannot be accidentally removed.

AES 1 Format Transmitter
The ADC-402N has link selectable input attenuation of -20 dBFS and -24 dBFS, which ensures all standard audio levels are met. A broadcast quality analogue to digital converter is used that ensures excellent frequency response, THD+N and signal to noise characteristics. Rotary front PCB control switch enables one of the six standards to be selected: 32, 48 and 96 kHz sample rates in both 20 and 24 bits. High quality analogue to digital converters are used with up to 24 bit resolution ensuring excellent low noise and distortion performance. An impressive greater than 105
dB dynamic range characteristic makes the ADC-402N ideal for broadcast applications. The module can be externally referenced from either an AES reference or black burst. If neither reference is used, the module generates its own reference oscillator. The ADC402N has both unbalanced 75 Ω and balanced 110 Ω AES digital audio outputs for each of the two separate AES output streams. BNC connectors are used for all 75 Ω AES outputs and the reference inputs. Phoenix 3-pin connectors are used on all balanced audio inputs and AES 110 Ω balanced outputs, mating screw plugs are supplied as standard.

Two models are available within the range: AES-108N-BNC and AES-108N-PHX. Both models have unbalanced 75 Ω or balanced 110 Ω inputs. The AES-108N-BNC 75 Ω version caters for applications where long cable runs are required. The AES-108N-PHX also provides two unbalanced 75 Ω outputs. Automatic cable compensation for up to 700 metres of high quality coaxial cable can be accommodated on the AES-108N-BNC model, and 200 metres of balanced 110 Ω cable for the AES-108N-PHX model.
Both models provide for input and output isolation. A 10 Mb/s isolating/coupling transformer ensures excellent input to output and output to output isolation. Input and output voltage isolation is 500 V DC. AES-108N models have eight outputs from one input. The output level is 1 V p-p for 75 Ω and 3.5 V p-p for 110 Ω irrespective of the valid input range signal level. On the AES108N-BNC all eight outputs are unbalanced 75 Ω, and on the AES-108N-PHX six 110 Ω outputs and two 75 Ω outputs are provided. All 75 Ω connectors are BNC; all 110 Ω inputs and outputs use Phoenix 3-pin connectors.

The ATD-202N-DB auto tracking delay is calculated by comparing a composite video signal to a reference video signal. The introduced audio delay matches this delay. The alternative method of delay tracking is via a TTL delay pulse. Up to two seconds of fixed delay is standard and is adjustable in one millisecond increments.
INPUTS AES REF VIDEO REF REF BLACK TTL DELAY
Setup and control of parameters are achieved via front card switch and menu selection. All setup parameters are stored in memory in the event of powering the frame down or removal of the eurocard. Sample rate converters are used to ensure seamless tracking and excellent audio performance. 24 bit ADCs are used for the ATD-202N-DB. The ATD-202N-DB AES outputs can be synchronised to an external video signal or to an AES reference for critical AES timing applications.

Gatton SDI
Gatton SD Isolator
Overview The innovative Gatton eliminates ground loop problems associated with the use of unbalanced video coax cables. Providing total electrical isolation between input and output, the Gatton has many advantages over conventional optical units. Codan Broadcast has discarded opto devices and developed a totally new method of achieving isolation without the temperature problems of opto-couplers and the need to provide AGC to compensate for gain instability.
Ground Loop Diagram
Before
30
Another advantage of the Gatton is the high bandwidth of 30MHz and the transparent signal path through the device. Field tests have shown that many hum problems are caused not only by differing ground potentials, but also by induced interference into the unbalanced coax cable. A special keyed clamp circuit may be switched in to eliminate any hum that has been induced into the signal. A comprehensive four band equaliser corrects for cable losses in four adjustable stages for up to 300 meters of input cable. The Gatton has dual 75 ohm BNC outputs and is powered by an external wall mount adaptor.

The SSS-104N-FS provides four serial digital outputs with low output jitter. EDH is inserted into the output serial data stream. The SSS-104N-FS provides full frame synchronisation and adjustable horizontal, vertical and continuously variable subpixel timing. The SSS-104N-FS can also be set to provide a fixed one frame delay with respect to the SDI input making it perfect for Dolby applications. Any settings are protected in the case of power failure. Both 625 and 525 line video formats are automatically supported. EDH and other ancillary data are passed through untouched. The SSS-104N-FS series processes the SMPTE 259M signal with full 10 bit accuracy.

The SSS-104N-FS output picture is synchronised to an external analogue reference signal. Alternatively, the output picture can be delayed relative to the input digital signal. In either case, the output timing is continuously variable on a subpixel basis over a full frame. A separate TTL delay output is provided that reflects the delay between the SDI input and the external reference signal; this signal is intended for auto audio tracking delay applications. The SSS-104N-FS series acts as a digital jitter remover by buffering the data and reclocking it using an external jitter free analogue reference source. The Frame Synchroniser mode makes it possible to use asynchronous sources. The output timing is generated entirely on the external reference. Output timing is constant, whether a synchronous or asynchronous source is used. An adjustable cable equaliser has been designed into the composite analogue output stage. The equaliser can be set to equalise up to 90 metres of high quality coaxial cable. This ensures that the analogue outputs are delivered to their destinations without signal loss. Four broadcast quality composite outputs are provided.
