Tournament Overview Date- 18th and 19th June 2016 Location- Queens University Belfast, University Road, Belfast BT7 1NN Format- 5 games, 1850 points 2. General Rules The tournament will use the 7th edition of the Warhammer 40k rules, using the most recent European Team Championship FAQs and rule clarifications (copies will be available on the day) The Head Ref’s decision is final, arguments will be dealt with violently. You can summon the Head Ref at any time by saying “Mike Mike Mike” repeatedly Format Restrictions “Come the Apocalypse” allies can be used and special (unique) characters and units will be allowed. Unbound lists are not permitted at this tournament. Army list Selection You may create your army from a maximum of 4 sources. A source can be a detachment, formation, dataslate or codex choice published by Games Workshop in an official English version of their rules The sources can be any combination of any detachment or formation as permitted by the main rules- if you have a query over whether a choice is legal or not please contact me in advance at [email protected] The “super formations” such as Craftworld Warhosts and Necron Decurions can be taken however they will count as 2 of your 4 sources (regardless of the number of “component” formations that are taken as part of your choice) Likewise the Adeptus Mechanicus War Convocation will count as 2 of your 4 sources, even though it is chosen from 3 codexes. Lords of War, Superheavy vehicles and Gargantuan creatures are all considered to be Unique and therefore you can only bring one of each dataslate within your list. So for example a list containing Imperial Knight (Errant) and Imperial Knight (Paladin) would be legal as they are different dataslates; a list containing Wraithknight (with sword) and Wraithknight (with d-cannons) would not be legal as both choices are from the same dataslate. The only permitted Lords of War, Superheavy vehicles and Gargantuan creatures are those within either a Warhammer 40k codex or Warhammer 40k Campaign book- therefore Forgeworld LOW, Superheavy vehicles and GCs are not legal. Lists chosen from Imperial Armour and Horus Heresy (30k) books are legal, however please note the caveat above Fortifications 1 fortification may be chosen PER ARMY provided you have taken at least 1 detachment with a Fortification slot, with the following exceptionsNo fortification networks No fortification with AV15 or above You are not required to use GW fortifications, but any model used must be of similar dimensions to the official GW model- if in doubt please check with me in advance Other general information The most up to date English version of any rules takes priority over other versions Each player must bring all codexes, dataslates and rules with them to the tournament; digital versions are acceptable however if there is a query or contradiction the physical copy of the rules will take precedence. Any handwritten or word processed rules used will not be acceptable and may lead to a yellow card being issued if they are found to be incorrect. Each player is expected to bring 5 copies of their army list (1 for each opponent), dice, measuring tape and templates that are relevant to their rules. If a player has not brought their own template with them and cannot borrow one on the day, they cannot benefit from the effect of that attack. If you have dice with symbols on the face please inform your opponent at the start of the game if they are on the “6” face or the “1” face- any player found to be using dice with a mix of symbols on differing faces will receive a yellow card. If you will have issues with printing 5 copies of your army list please contact me in advance and I will arrange to have your list printed, however you will forfeit 2 TPs from the Additional points score (4.3) If you have any rules queries, army list queries or general queries in advance please send your question to [email protected] Any queries made in advance and answered will be published publically so all can see them 3. Army list limitations Any codex, campaign book or dataslate must be released by Monday 6th June 2016, otherwise the older version will be used The tournament is for armies worth 1850pts- please check section 6.2 for details on how to write your list 4. Tournament points Each player will receive a score out of 120 possible points, broken down as below 4.1 Gaming score The first round will be randomly allocated, after which the tournament will be done in Swiss style. You will not play the same opponent twice if at all possible. Each game will be worth 0-20 points, scored as per section 5 Total gaming score is out of 100 points 4.2 Painting score The painting score is broken down as2 points if ALL models in your army are 3 colours minimum and those 3 colours are coherent throughout the army. If up to 5 models do not meet this standard you will receive 1 point; any more than this will result in 0 points awarded. Please note this applies to any fortifications you have in your army 2 points if ALL models in your army are on a textured and painted base. Models on clear flying/skimmer bases may be left clear provided this is across the entire army. 2 points if there are clear markers to distinguish individual squads within the army. This can be specific colours or markings to distinguish them; some players paint the rim of their bases different colours. There just needs to be an easy-to-see visual clue for each squad 2 points for the presence of additional detailing throughout the army. This can be use of transfers, chapter markings, details such as grenades/purity seals etc. Can also be achieved through the use of washes, drybrushing, highlighting etc. 1 point if you have a themed display board for the army. The board must be painted, detailed or textured to match the rest of your army 1 point if you have 6 painted or modelled objective markers numbered 1-6. Must be painted or modelled to match your army Total painting score is out of 10 points 4.3 Additional points You will be awarded 5 points if you submit your complete, correct army list by 23:59 on Friday 10th June 2016. Please see section 6.2 for army list details. You will be awarded 5 points if you bring 5 copies of your army list, a tape measure and enough dice to play your games. This will be checked at the start of game 1. 5. Scoring Victory points are accumulated from Mission Scoring. The points that are scored in each mission are detailed in the missions (see next page) Game points To determine game points, each player counts their victory points, subtracting their opponent’s score and consult the table below. Please note that additional points scored from Warlord traits such as Legendary Fighter, or from special rules such as killing a Tau Ethereal, function as normal and are added to your score. This number is added in to your total VP score for the mission, however please note that you can never score more than 8 points more than your opponent So for example if you score 7 KPs and your opponent scores 4 KPs, you add 7 and 4 to your score respectively; if you score 15 KPs and your opponent scores 4KPs, you score 12KPs and your opponent scores 4KPs as you cannot score more than 8 points above your foe 5.1 Missions Mission 1 Deployment type- Hammer and Anvil Primary- Emperor’s Will (2 objectives placed in your respective deployment zones, each worth 4 VPs) Secondary- Cleanse and Control (3 cards each turn) Tertiary- Kill Points, Slay the Warlord Mission 2 Deployment typePrimary- Vanguard Strike Crusade (Objectives 1-4 are worth 2 VPs each) Secondary- Contact lost (start with 1 card; from turn 2 you generate 1 TO per Obj controlled, up to 6) Tertiary- Kill Points, Slay the Warlord, First Blood Mission 3 Deployment typePrimary- Relic (See below for scoring) Secondary“Secure Obj”) Tertiary- Dawn of War The Spoils of War (cannot discard “Secure Obj X”, can score your opponents Slay the Warlord, First Blood, Linebreaker Clarifications for the Relic You can not move any more than 6” in a player TURN with the relic (the Qcon relics are very fragile…). The Relic is an objective just like the other 6 Maelstrom, and so can be controlled or contested by models in 3” as per the rules for objectives A player who HOLDS the relic scores 6 VPs. A player who controls the relic but is not holding it i.e. is within 3” of it scores 4 VPs. A player contesting the relic scores 2 VPs In this mission a tabling is NOT an automatic 20-0; continue playing the game with the remaining models until the game finishes normally- ITS ALL ABOUT THE RELIC!! Mission 4 Deployment typePrimaryeach) SecondaryTertiary- Vanguard Strike Big Guns (Objectives 1-5 are worth 2 VPs each, killing a HS choice is worth 1 point Tactical Escalation (have max TOs as the game turn number) Kill Points, First Blood Mission 5 Deployment type- Dawn of War Primary- The Scouring (Objectives 1+2 are 1VP, 3+4 2Vps, 5+6 3VPs, killing a FA choice is worth 1 point each; please follow the rulebook for the “secret placing” of the objs) Secondary- Deadlock (have max TOs equal to 7 minus turn number) Tertiary- Kill Points, Slay the Warlord, Linebreaker 5.2 Clarifications If you have any queries about the missions in advance please email me at [email protected] Maelstrom cards When scoring Maelstrom in the 5 missions, please abide by the following rules- - You can only score 2 objectives maximum in a turn You may use race-specific maelstrom cards, rulebook objs or ETC objs- please inform your opponent at the start of the game which set of objectives you are using Any card which you cannot score (for example killing a psyker and your opponent does not have a psyker in their army) is immediately discarded and you can draw another card to replace it. If there is ANY possibility of scoring it in a game however it must be held, even if it cannot be scored that turn (for example, if your opponent’s psyker or characters are in reserve) Any card which states you score more than one point (it may be D3, D6 or other possibilities) will score you 2VPs only on completion At the end of the turn you can discard a maximum of 1 card, unless you have a warlord trait or wargear that allows the discarding of more than 1 You cannot score the same Maelstrom objective twice in the same turn, so for example if drawing from the rulebook table and you draw 2 objectives which are “Secure Objective 1” you can only score one of those at the end of your turn if you achieve it. If you still hold Objective 1 at the end of your next turn you can score the second card then PRE GAME CHECKLIST 1. Roll off- winning player places first objective. Players then alternate placing objectives until all are on the board 2. Roll off- winner chooses table side for deployment zone 3. Roll for Warlord traits, starting with player who won roll 2 4. Roll for gifts, boons or any other pre-game rolls 5. Roll for psychic powers, starting with player who won roll 2 6. Roll for Night Fight 7. Roll off- winner chooses whether to deploy first or second. Fortifications are placed. 8. Deploy armies 9. Deploy Infiltrators 10. Player who deployed first decides who gets first turn 11. Make scout moves 12. Seize the Initiative 6. Army 6.1 Army appearance For this tournament models must be WYSIWYG where possible, however if you have any models that are proxies or conversions just inform your opponent at the start of the game what everything is. Any model which is deemed to be “modelled for advantage” may have to be replaced for the purposes of range measuring and Line of Sight. If you believe your opponent has a model like this please inform the Head Ref. If you have a particular conversion you want on the board, please ensure you have a “regular” version of the model with you for subbing in. 6.2 Army list You will be awarded 5 points if you submit your complete, correct army list by 23:59 on Friday 10th June 2016. Please email your list to [email protected] in the main body of the email- please do not send the list as an attachment Players are advised to submit your list in advance of the date so if there are any corrections, mistakes or formatting issues that I need to return to you then you will be able to get the list back before the deadline. If your list is returned and you do not get it back in before the deadline you will only receive 2 points All army lists are to be in plain text in the email, and contain the player name, codexes used, alliances in the army and the total points cost. Prizes The following prizes will be available for this tournament1st place 2nd place 3rd place Best Painted army Wooden Spoon award Fluffy bunny award- for the player who brings the most fluffy list (decision of the head ref) TEAM NI Bounties- any player who is not a current Team Northern Ireland ETC player who beats a member of the team will claim a bounty for them, to presented by the team member who was beaten The “It’s SALMON” award- for the player who brings the most pink models The “Coming over here, taking our jobs” award- for the top ranked player who isn’t a member of Team Northern Ireland (past or present) There will also be a variety of spot prizes on the day, these will be on the scorecards each round 8. Rankings The results for this tournament will be entered into the Team NI ETC ranking table for 2016, which will be used to pick the Team NI ETC team for the 2017 ETC in Spain. Registration There are currently 36 places available for this tournament, they will fill up quickly so make sure to get your ticket booked early. Registration will be at 8.30am on Saturday morning, please ensure you are there on time so we can get your name in the system, armies all assembled and the round starting on time 10. Timetable Saturday 830-915 915-1200 1200-1300 1300-1545 1545-1600 1600-1845 1900-“the wee hours” Registration, announcements Round 1 Lunch break Round 2 Break, tidy up, moving tables Round 3 Drinking and merriment Sunday 1000-1245 1245-1345 1345-1630 1630-1700 Round 4 Lunch Round 5 Prizes Notes about timekeeping If you are more than 5 minutes late to any round, your opponent automatically wins the first 2 rolls for setup (please see Pre-game checklist, page 7) If you are more than 15 minutes late to any round, your opponent automatically wins the roll off to deploy first and you forfeit the right to seize the initiative We will be operating a very strict DICE DOWN at this tournament. There will be time warnings shouted out by the head ref at the main stages- 1 hour left, 30 minutes left, 15 minutes left. Once the 15 minute mark is announced, if you are still playing DO NOT start another game turn unless both you and your opponent agree you can get a full game turn completed. If there is a disagreement please ask the Head Ref and he will make the call for you Persistent time keeping issues will result in a yellow or red card being issued IN ALL CASES, THE HEAD REF’S DECISION IS FINAL 11. In game issues 11.1 Time There is 2 hours 45 minutes for every game, which should be more than enough time to complete at least 5 turns. It is imperative that both players get to play the same number of game turns. As above, if there is doubt that this will be able to happen please bring it to the attention of the Head Ref. If you feel your opponent is “slow playing” or deliberately stalling, please bring it to the attention of the Head Ref who will kick some ass. Repeatedly failing to get 5 turns played will result in a player receiving a yellow card. 11.2 Rules Queries If you encounter a problem that cannot be solved using the rulebook, codexes or FAQs, please bring it to the attention of the Head Ref. If no clear answer exists, the Head Ref will give a ruling based on common sense, or potentially may resort to the roll of a dice to resolve it. If you have issues you would like clarified in advance please contact me at [email protected] 11.3 Difficult opponents Northern Ireland is blessed with a fun-loving, fair and sporting player base, but occasionally you encounter an asshat who is more concerned with being an asshat than playing a fun game. If you are unfortunate enough to play against an asshat, please summon the Head Ref immediately who will ensure the game is played properly. As always- the head ref’s decision is final at all times 11.4 Yellow/Red cards If the Head Ref feels that someone is deserving of a yellow card, they will issue it and 10TPs will be deducted from the player’s final score. The Head Ref will always explain why the yellow card has been issued In the extremely unlikely event of a red card being issued, the player will be disqualified immediately from the tournament and asked to leave the building. An example of a red card offense would be a player caught stealing money, models, terrain etc. during the tournament 12. Food and Drink Lunch is not included in the ticket price on either day, but the location is very close to a large number of shops and food spots to go and fill your faces with. There is a bar on site in Queens and any drinks purchased from there are permitted in the gaming hall. Please check with the Head Ref if you are bringing in any other form of drink as we will have to check with the Students Union if this is permitted Buying drinks as a bribe for the Head Ref is not only permitted but encouraged 13. Information about Team Northern Ireland and the ETC The European Team Championships, or ETC, is for all intents and purposes the World Championships of Warhammer 40k. Every year around 28-32 countries from around the world come together for 3 days of gaming, laughs and drinking. Northern Ireland has been represented by Team NI for many years now and has always had a reputation for being fun and sporting. In 2015 Team NI was the proud winner of the “Most Favoured Opponent” award at ETC in Prague. If you are at all interested in becoming involved with the team and representing this little patch of madness in the Atlantic Ocean, please speak to one of the team members.
