Before you install The default setting of the LK V -0480/LK V -0880/LK V -1680 R ackm o unt K V M S w itch is appropriate for most systems. In fact, you do not have to make any configuration before installation. It’s an out-of-the-box installation: Just connect and set up the cable connections for the KVM switch and your computers, boot them up in correct sequence and you can start to operate immediately! For a quick start on installation and operation, please follow the instructions below.
Out-of-the-box Installation Take the KVM Sw itch out of the box and begin installation... If you are u sin g on ly w in dow PC s: for th e first-tim e in stallation , you don ’t even need to p ow er dow n all th e com p ute rs th at are goin g to be conn ected to th e K V M Sw itch … .. The hot-pluggability of this K V M Sw itch allow s “hot-plugging” of the K V M cables w hile the com p uter is pow ered on, and yo ur m ouse w ill stay alive through out. It is especially convenient w hen you have to change or rearrange the K V M cablings of yo ur com p uters w hile still w ant to keep the com puters w ork ing. If you are u sin g an y Lin u x P C s: you m ight possibly experience a lock on m ouse if hot-plugging it to the K V M sw itch (sin ce Lin ux is not a PnP O S som eho w )… If your m o use gets locked, you can try to use the m o use reset hotke ys (see the Qu ick Refere nce Sheet) to bring it back to norm al. A noth er alternative is to turn the Linux PC off before connecting it to K V M Sw itch.
There are two methods to select a specific computer, using a front-panel push button or a hotkey sequence. Front-panel push buttons The front-panel buttons let you have direct control over KVM switch operation and channel switching. Simply press a button to switch to its corresponding channel. See Quick Reference Sheet K e yboard hotkeys A keyboard hotkey sequence consists of at least three specific keystrokes: See Quick Reference Sheet
S tep 1. Connect the shared mouse, keyboard and monitor to the console port connectors on the backpanel of your KVM Switch.
H otkey sequence = ScrL k + ScrL k + C om m and k ey(s)
N ote that since the K V M Sw itch is pow ered through the PS /2 interface, it is pow ered on im m ediately w hen connec ted to the PS/2 keyboard/m o use port of your PC (nonethe less even w hen the PC being in pow ered off state, the PS/2 interface is still live w ith electricity).
T he tw o consecutive ScrL k keystrokes should be pressed w ithin 2 seconds and the follow ing com m and key(s) should also be pressed w ith in 2 secon ds in likew ise m ann er. O th erw ise, the hotkey sequence w ill not be valida ted.
S tep 2. Just connect your com puters (no matter they are pow ered on or off!) to the PC ports at the backpanel of the KVM Switch using the KVM com bo cables. You can use individual standard keyboard, mouse and video cables for connectio n, although the 3-in-1 combo cable is highly recomm ended for your convenience. S tep 3. If your computer is still not powered up, then power them up. Once the com puters are powered up (or they are already powered on before connecting to KVM Switch), you can manage all of them through the KVM Switch.
