X24/X28 RAID Subsystem Quick Installation Guide
Precautions 1. The system is heavy. At least two (2) people will be required to install the Subsystem. 2. The rack cabinet into which this subsystem will be installed must support overcurrent protection and must not be overloaded by the modules installed. Other requirements, such as ventilation airflow, rack stabilizing features, electrical earth, and electrical distribution, must comply with the technical specifications listed in the documentation that came with this product. 3. System Integrators should ensure that any integrated storage solution that includes this product has been tested and proved to meet government regulations and codes for subjects including safety, fire, and electrical. 4. The X24/X28 comes with a pre-installed DDR RAM DIMM module in each RAID controller unit. 5. Make sure you have a soft, clean surface on which to place your subsystem before working on it. Placing the system on a rough surface during servicing may damage the chassis finish. 6. Do not remove any module or component item from its anti-static bag until you are ready to install it. Pick up and hold modules by their edges or canister. Avoid touching PCBs and connector pins. 7. Observe all standard ESD prevention methods, e.g., wear an anti-static wristband to prevent static electricity from damaging the electric components. 8. The X24/X28 can be rackmounted in the industry standard 19-inch Racks. The slide rail mounting kit is sold separately.

Unpacking the Subsystem Check the included Unpacking List and verify the model name and shipping contents against the checklist.
Subsystem Cable Connections
Power Cords Step 1. Two power cords are provided to facilitate the power connection. The power sockets locations on the subsystem rear can be seen in Figure 2.

Figure 2: Power Sockets Locations
Step 2. A unique power cord lock mechanism is designed on the rear panel of both PSUs to prevent the subsystem losses power from cable loosening. To connect the two (2) provided power cords to the power sockets, first loosen the hand screws on the power cord lock levers. (See Figure 3)

Step 3. Place a power cords behind the power cord lock levers. Leave the power cords for approximately 15cm (6-inch) above the levers. (See Figure 4)

Step 4. Fasten the hand screws to secure the power cord lock levers to the subsystem. Twist the power cords so the power cords can be inserted into the power sockets on the subsystem rear. (See Figure 5) Step 5. Make sure the power source is within the correct power range (100 to 240VAC) prior to powering on. Auto -ranging is supported by PSUs. Step 4. Plug the other end of the power cords into the power source.
Power On To power on the subsystem, follow these steps:
Power Socket
Step 1. Make sure all of the hardware components (e.g., controller, BBU, cooling module, PSU, I/O module) are properly installed in the subsystem chassis. Step 2. Make all the connections described above. Hand Screw Power Cord
Step 3. Power on any external devices that are not directly connected to the host computer (e.g., hubs and switches). Step 4.Power on JBOD subsystem.
Figure 5: Inserting the Power Cord
Step 5.Power on the X24/X28 subsystem by turning on both power switches on the rear panel of PSU modules. For the location of the power switches, please see Figure 9.
I/O Ports Each I/O module houses two (2) Fibre ports and is housed on the subsystem rear panel (See Figure 6). The X24/X28-6 has six (6) I/O modules providing twelve (12) FC ports and the X24/X28-4 has four (4) I/O modules providing eight (8) FC ports. These Fibre ports can be connected to host computers and external JBOD(s) via Fibre cables. Be sure to plug SFP transceivers into the FC ports before working on cable connections. The I/O modules, for example, start from the left when facing the subsystem rear panel providing Channel 0 to Channel 5 (X24/X28-6) or Channel 0 to Channel 3 (X24/X28-4) connections. (Details on FC cables and FC ports can be found in the Installation and Hardware Reference Manual in the Product CD that came with your subsystem).
Step 6. Power on the host computer(s). Please refer to the user's manual that came with your host computer for the power on procedure. I/O Ports Figure 6: I/O Ports Locations

COM Ports
Each controller module comes with two (2) COM ports. The port on the left (COM1) is reserved for terminal emulation managem ent and can be used to assign a permanent IP to the subsystem. The port on the right (COM2) is used for UPS connectivity. One (1) audio-jack to DB9 cable for X24/X28 or one (1) 2-audio- jack to DB9 Y-cable for X24/X28 is provided to facilitate the connection of these ports. Purchase an additional cable to connect the subsystem to a UPS through the COM2 port. (See Figure 7) RJ-45 Ethernet Port After the subsystem has been assigned a permanent IP, a shielded Ethernet cable can be used t o connect the RJ-45 Ethernet port to a hub on a network, enabling you to manage your subsystem via the web. (See Figure 8) 2
