For more detailed instructions, please access the ProJet® 4500 User Guide by logging into http://3dscentral.3dsystems.com. 1. Enter your email address and the password that was sent in the confirmation email. 2. Once in 3DSCentral, click on “Products” located at the top menu bar. 3D Systems, Inc. 5 3. Next, click on ProJet® 4500 located on the side bar; your user guides and other valuable printer documents are located here. Click on the document to open or download a copy to save. Under “Professional Printers” you will find “ProJet 4500” in the side bar. User guides and other printer documents are located here. 3D Systems, Inc. 6 FAMILIARIZATION The ColorJet Printing (CJP) technology was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was commercialized by ZCorporation. With the acquisition of ZCorporation by 3DS Systems, CJP technology is now one of several professional 3D printing technologies under the ProJet® brand. The CJP process involves: • Importing a solid 3D model file into the latest version of 3DPrint™ software • Setting up and positioning your 3D file(s) into the virtual build volume in the 3DPrint software. • Printing the part(s) • Curing the part(s) in the build bed • Gross removal of excess core material from the build area with the vacuum hose • Fine cleaning of excess core from the part(s) in the cleaning station • Cleaning and servicing the printer as needed B A C D C A Build Chamber B Cleaning Station C Control Panel D Waste Door & Waste Tray 3D Systems, Inc. 7 POWER SUPPLY Verify facility’s electrical service rating before connecting power to the printer. Facility Electrical Requirement: Electrical Requirements Compliance CSA, CB Scheme, CE approvals to UL 60950 Information Technology Equipment. RoHS and WEEE compliant. Voltage input RMS 100/115/230 VAC (autoscene) 15/15/9.5A 50/60Hz Current AC 90-132 (15A) / AC 216 - 264 (11 - 9.5A) Consumption =< 1800W (80% x 2250) W typical, normal operation, including post processing 1. Plug (A) power cord into power outlet (located at the rear of the printer. Then plug into the facility’s power outlet. Switch power on. A B 3D Systems, Inc. 8 MATERIAL CARTRIDGE INSTALLATION CAUTION: Adhere to all personal, and safe handling of materials described in the Material Safety section in the ProJet 4500 User Guide. Always follow MSDS / SDS guidelines and local regulations regarding handling and disposal of regulated materials. Keep disposal records if local law requires. A Color Binder Pockets [C-M-Y] A B Insert one (1) CYAN; one (1) MAGENTA; and one (1) YELLOW material cartridge according to color codes. Insert one (1) CLEAR binder cartridge. 3D Systems, Inc. 9 B WASTE TRAY INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL To Install Waste Tray: Open the waste door and slide waste tray into the waste drawer. To Remove/Replace Waste Pan 1. Press top left corner of panel to access waste tray. 2. Waste is solid after twenty-four (24) hours. Safely dispose of waste material (check with local regulations). OPERATION To ensure that the printer is functioning properly, a test print is recommended. The test build is provided on the ProJet® 4500 USB stick or available online at . 3D Systems, Inc. 10 SETTING UP A BUILD TO PRINT To Set up a build to print to your 3D Printer, do the following: 1. Open your 3D file in 3DPrint. 2. Under Home tab, select SET-UP. 3. In HOME tab, select BUILD icon. 3D Systems, Inc. 11 4. In the Printer Status window, be sure all consumables are filled to the appropriate levels and then press PRINT to start printing your 3D file. 5. The PRINTING dialog opens and reports the status of the print job as the build progresses. 3D Systems, Inc. 12 6. Click PAUSE to pause the current print job. Click again to resume printing. 7. Click CANCEL to cancel printing this job. 3D Systems, Inc. 13 FINISHING BUILD CLEAN THE PART Once your part has cured, you will need to clean it to remove any remaining loose Core material. Cleaning is done in two stages: “coarse” cleaning, which removes the Core material around the part in the Build Bed; and “fine” cleaning, which removes any Core still clinging to the part itself. COARSE CLEANING Your part prints and cures in the Build Bed surrounded by unused, loose core material. You will need to remove unused core from the Build Bed after the curing cycle is finished. 1. Before you begin vacuuming, check the part orientation in 3DPrint to avoid damage to your part. 2. On the LCD display, select VACUUM. 3. Open the printer top cover. The vacuum starts. Use the Control Knob to move the Build Platform up as you vacuum. Unused Core that is vacuumed from the Build Bed is recycled back into the printer feeder so it can be used for future builds. 3D Systems, Inc. 14 FINE CLEANING After the bulk of the core is removed from the Build Bed, remove the part and transfer to the cleaning station where you can clean the part of any remaining Core with the Air Wand. 1. Gently lift the part and place it into the cleaning station. Begin to remove core material from the outside of your part with the compressed air wand 2. Blow excess core material from the inside of your part (if applicable). 3. Use a brush to remove core fromsurface if desired. 3D Systems, Inc. 15 PRINTER CLEANLINESS It is very important that you keep your printer well maintained. Please read the user guide pertaining to your printer to properly clean your printer. A clean well-maintained printer produces better parts, has less downtime, and needs fewer service calls. [NOTE: Wear protective gloves, sleeves and eye protection for any contact with consumables.] Routine Cleaning After Every Build: After every build, it is important to clean your printer following the steps below. Routine cleaning includes the following steps: • Vacuum Up Excess Core • Empty the Debris Separator • Clean the Service Station Vacuum Up Excess Core: 1. To vacuum the Build Bed, the Fast Axis and the Deck, close the top cover, then select VACUUM on the LCD menu. 2. Open the cover. The vacuum will start. Vacuum the following areas: • • • The top of the Fast Axis, the Rails and the Printhead Carriage The Build Bed (but not the Feeder side) The deck around the Build Bed 3. Press the Control Knob once to turn off the vacuum. [NOTE: In the event of a powder spill, sweep the powder up and dispose of in a waste receptacle. Use only a non-ignition vacuum to vacuum spilled powder.] 3D Systems, Inc. 16 EMPTY THE DEBRIS SEPARATOR After vacuuming, clean the Debris Separator. The Debris Separator catches any large particles and keeps those pieces from being recycled into the feeder. To empty the Debris Separator follow the steps below. 1. Pull the Debris Separator out of its holder on the printer and brush out any debris using the soft brush found in the Accesory Kit . 2. Return the empty Debris Separator to its holder. Be sure to push the Separator flat against the panel for a secure fit. 3D Systems, Inc. 17 REPLACING THE WIPER The wiper in the Service Station should be cleaned before each build to ensure that there is a secure vacuum for each build. 1. In the Service Station, gently push down wiper and allow it to rise for removal and cleaning. 2. Lift the wiper and separate from its black base. 3. Using a pick from your accessories kit, scrape residual out of each vacuum hole to ensure a strong vacuum in your next build. Replace the wiper in the service station once each vacuum hole is cleared of obstruction; or, install spare wiper. 4.
