Quick Start Guide Overview Backtsy is an automatic backup service, designed to back up your Etsy shop. Backtsy is automatic, easy to follow and most importantly, will give you peace of mind! This guide describes all you need to know about the backup and restoration options of the Backtsy service. NOTE: The Backtsy service is available to all Etsy shops. However, for Etsy shops selling digital items, please note that Backtsy will back up your shop, but the backup will not include an attachment of any of the digital items. Full support for digital items will be added in the future.
Registration and Backup Options In order to register to Backtsy’s automatic backup service, go to the www.backtsy.com site. Click Register NOW, as shown in the image below.
Etsy will ask you to allow Backtsy to access your shop – allow access by clicking on Allow Access:
After registration, you will be asked to choose your backup frequency, from one of the following:
Daily backup – Once a day Backtsy will back up your shop.
Weekly backup – Once a week Backtsy will back up your shop.
Monthly backup – Once a month Backtsy will back up your shop.
To choose the backup frequency, click the Backup Plan menu bar option and select your preference from the Backup Frequency dropdown list. After choosing the backup frequency, click Checkout using PayPal to complete your registration via PayPal.
After completing all these steps, you are registered! Welcome onboard After registration, you will receive an email confirming that you are registered. Please save this email
as it contains a user name and a password in case your Etsy account is blocked; if blocked, this typically means you won’t be able to enter Backtsy using your regular Etsy user credentials.
The first automatic backup will begin a short time after your registration. You will receive an email letting you know that the backup is completed. If you would like to download a copy of your back up, see the download backup section here.
Changing the Backup Frequency Backup frequency can be changed at any time. To change your backup frequency, go to the www.backtsy.com site, and click Login. From the menu bar, click Backup Plan, and in the Backup Frequency dropdown box, select the required backup frequency. Then click Checkout using PayPal.
Using Backtsy’s Backup Reports In order to view your shop backups, you first have to make sure you are logged in to Etsy. Then go to www.backtsy.com, and click Login on the upper right blue button, which will take you directly to your backup page. The backups displayed in this page are summarized in row format. For example, if you chose the monthly backup, you will see a backup row per month.
Downloading Backtsy’s Backup Files We recommend that you also save your backups to your PC, so they will be available to you at any time. To download your backup files to your computer, go to www.backtsy.com and click Login to view your backups. Click on the Select Action button and choose the Download Shop Listings option, as shown below.
Please note that this action may take a few minutes (especially when there’s a lot of data to process for shops with a lot of items), so please be patient...
You will receive an email letting you know that your backup is ready for download. The file you download includes a ZIP file containing a CSV file (which can be opened in Excel) and a folder with all of your listing images. The CSV file contains your item details (active and draft) such as titles, tags, details, etc. In order to be able to read the full content of each item, you need to click in each square in your Excel file (as shown in the screen below).
The following screen shows an example of the listing image folder:
Restoring Items Backtsy enables you to restore items you backed up, and revert to the backed up titles, tags, details etc. This can prove especially useful, for example, when you want to revert to the titles/tags/item details etc that in your view performed better in Etsy’s search results than the modified titles/tags etc. Additionally, this feature assists greatly in cases where you changed titles and tags for a holiday promotion that is now over. Note: Restoration of items can only be made if the items were backed up before you made changes. Backtsy cannot restore items that were not backed up. In order to restore items, first go to www.backtsy.com and click Login to view your backups. Choose the relevant backup date (make sure you choose the right date that includes the required versions of the items you want to restore). Then click on the Select Action button and choose Selective Item Restore, as shown below.
The next screen displayed shows all your active and draft listings as they appeared in your shop at the time of backup. Select the checkbox (√) for the item/s you want to restore, as shown below.
Then scroll down to the end of the screen and click Restore Selected Items.
Restoring Shop Info Backtsy can also restore all your shop info (Profile, About, Policies etc.). To restore your shop info, go to www.backtsy.com, and click Login to view your backups. Click on the Select Action button and choose Restore Shop Info, as shown below.
Note: If you click on this option, ALL your shop info will be restored. So please use discretion when using this option. At this time, Backtsy cannot restore partial shop info.
Vacation Mode Note that while your shop is in vacation mode, your listings are unavailable. Therefore, to avoid losing all your shop information (such as your shop listings), Backtsy will save the last versions of the shop prior to the date you started your vacation.
Full Restoration of your Shop We hope you don’t need this option, but if you do, you will need to perform the following steps: 1. Restore your shop info (as described earlier in this document). 2. Restore your items using the Selective Item Restore option and choosing 10 items each time. Repeat this process until you have restored all your items.
