The Fujitsu Server Power Appliance for SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE) is an extreme online transaction processing (OLTP) appliance built from the latest generation of hardware and flash storage technology, to meet the requirements and needs of the extreme OLTP environment. ®
®
Your Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE includes SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (SAP ASE) 15.7 SP131 software, preinstalled on the server, and one of the following Fujitsu hardware servers: Appliance

Preparing for Deployment
SAP ASE software comes preinstalled on the server. However, you must finalize the configuration and deployment of this network appliance.
Context If the server is installed in a rack, review these considerations before starting installation.
Procedure 1.

Verify that you have, or obtain, the following equipment, which is not included with the product: ○
Ethernet network cable type CAT5e or better
○
USB keyboard
○
USB mouse
○
Display monitor
Before starting the server, determine: ○
The Network Time Protocol (NTP) IP address if you use this time service to synchronize the date and time of the server to the network.
○
The type of network connection available: static IP address or DHCP.
○
The host name and domain name assigned to the device, if any. For example, searchengine.mydomain.com.
○
Passwords for: ○
System User "root". This is the root password for the Red Hat Linux operating system. The root user is also known as the superuser.
○
SAP User "sap". This is the user login for managing SAP software. Use this account to perform all installation, upgrade, and setup tasks.
○
SAP ASE system administrator"sa". This is the SAP ASE system administrator account. It has full privileges to the SAP ASE server and databases.
○
SAP Control Center administrator "sccadmin". SAP Control Center provides a single, comprehensive, Web-administration console for real-time performance, status, and availability monitoring of SAP ASE.

3 Setting up the Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE Connect the appropriate cables, keyboard, mouse and monitor to the Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE. When you start the Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE, the setup script starts automatically.
Procedure 1.
Connect the network cable, keyboard, mouse, and display to the server.
2.
Connect the two AC power cables (provided) to the server.
3.
Turn on power to the display monitor, then turn on power to the server.
4.
Once the setup script starts, select the license region code. This is the location where the server resides.
5.
Read and agree to the SAP software license agreement.
6.
Enter the fully qualified host name. This is the Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE appliance name and domain name. For example, searchengine.mydomain.com.

Choose your network connection: DHCP or Static. If you select Static for your network, you must also specify the following: ○
Enter Host IP Address/Netmask is the IP address of the SAP ASE host and the netmask for the subnet. For example, 156.79.253.23/255.255.255.192.
○
Enter Gateway IP Address is the IP address of the network gateway through which the Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE reaches the IP address of the network gateway.
○
Enter DNS Server IP Address is the IP address of your Domain Name System (DNS) server.

Specify and confirm the timezone for your region.
9.
Enter the NTP IP Address. This is the Network Time Protocol server IP address (not the server name). If your site does not use an NTP server, press Enter.
10. Verify your configuration settings and enter C to continue. 11. Enter Y to restart the server. The Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE applies your network settings and continues with SAP ASE configuration. 12. Enter the password for System User "root". This is the root password for the Red Hat Linux operating system. The root user is also known as the superuser. 13. Enter the password for the SAP User "sap". This is the user login used for managing SAP software. Use this account to perform all installation, upgrade, and setup tasks. 14. Enter the password for the SAP ASE system administrator"sa". Next Steps Once you have successfully set up the Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE, go to the SAP Control Center Web address that appears at the end of the setup process. Log in to SAP Control Center to add and register your SAP ASE server.

4 Checking and Applying Available SAP ASE Support Packages Support packages may be available for the SAP ASE software shipped with the Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE. Verify your version number and check the SAP Software Download Center for available updates.
Context The general steps for applying SAP ASE patches to the Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE are:
Procedure 1.
Log in to the SAP ASE server using "sa" user credentials and verify the database version installed.
2.
Log in to the to the appliance (machine) with "sap" login credentials.
3.
Download and extract the SAP ASE installer to a temporary directory.
4.
Shut down SAP ASE, Backup Server, and SAP Control Center.
5.
Run the SAP ASE installer.
4.1 Verify the SAP ASE Version Number Installed on the Server Check the database version and patch level already installed on the server before you install support packages.
Context Log in to the server with isql using "sa" user credentials and enter the following: isql -Usa -SSAP Password: 1> select @@version 2> go The output displays the server name. Make a note of the current version for later comparison.
4.2 Downloading Support Packages From the SAP Software Download Center Check SAP Software Download Center for available support packages and download the package, if necessary.

Note Some versions may not be bug-fix compatible with your software version. Click the Info link associated with the version to obtain and verify compatibility. 4.
Use GNU Tar to decompress the SAP ASE installer to a temporary directory.

Shutting Down the Server
Before you apply SAP ASE support packages, shut down SAP ASE, Backup Server, and SAP Control Center.
Context To shut down SAP ASE and Backup Servers, log in to the to the appliance (machine) with "sap" login credentials. The environment variables are pre-setup in "sap" user. Once you are logged in, enter: [sap@appliance ase]$ isql -Usa -SSAP Password: 1> shutdown SYB_BACKUP 2> go Backup Server: 3.48.1.1: The Backup Server will go down immediately. Terminating sessions. 1> shutdown

Installing SAP ASE Support Packages
Run the SAP ASE installer once you download the support package file and save it to a temporary directory.
Context To install the support package in GUI mode:
Procedure 1.
Log in to the to the appliance (machine) with "sap" login credentials to run the installer.

Navigate to the directory where you extracted the support package and start the installer: ./setup.bin
3.
Follow the onscreen instructions and specify /sap/ase for the destination directory.
4.
Continue to follow the onscreen instructions and accept the defaults.
5.
Select Yes when asked if you want to update the product and click Next.
6.
Select Update Adaptive Server and select the SAP ASE server you want the support package applied to.
7.
Enter and confirm the “sa” user password for the selected SAP ASE server and click Next. After the installer completes, the support package is applied and SAP ASE restarts. Manually restart Backup Server and SAP Control Center. Alternatively, you can install the SAP ASE support package in an interactive text mode by specifying the -i console argument to the installer launcher. For example: setup.bin -i console The flow of the installation is identical to a GUI installation, except output is written to a terminal window and responses are entered using the keyboard.

4.4.1 Manually Starting Backup Server and SAP Control Center After the installer completes, the support package is applied and SAP ASE restarts, however you will need to manually restart Backup Server and SAP Control Center.
Context To start Backup Server, enter: $ cd $SYBASE $ ./ASE-15_0/install/startserver -f $SYBASE/ASE-15_0/install/RUN_SAP_BS To start SAP Control Center, enter: $ cd $SYBASE $ ./SCC-3_2/bin/scc.sh --start >& SCC-3_2/log/scc-service.out &

Managing and Monitoring SAP ASE
After you perform initial Fujitsu Power Appliance for SAP ASE setup, use SAP Control Center to manage and monitor your server.
Procedure 1.
Install Adobe Flash Player 10.1 or later in the Web browser you will use to connect to SAP Control Center. Flash Player is a free plug-in. You can download the latest version from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ . See the SAP Control Center Installation Guide at http://infocenter.sybase.com

To connect to SAP Control Center, direct your browser to https://:8283/scc. If you see an error about the security certificate, add SAP Control Center to the Internet Explorer trusted sites zone, or add the security exception in Firefox.

Log in using the sccadmin user name and password. This is the password you specified during initial setup.
Note If you cannot log in to SAP Control Center, right-click in the SAP Control Center login screen and select Settings. From the Local Storage tab, adjust the slider menu bar to more than 100KB.
