R&S®TS8975 Mobile WiMAX™ RF Preconformance Test System At a glance The R&S®TS8975 is the ideal RX/TX RF tester in R & D, quality assurance and precompliance when it comes to the testing of mobile stations in line with the Mobile WiMAX™ test specification.
The R&S®TS8975 enables high-precision RF characterization of Mobile WiMAX™ mobile stations in line with the WiMAX™ Mobile Radio Conformance Test specification. In many aspects, the system is similar to the highly successful R&S®TS8970 used by many of the WiMAX Forum® Designated Certification Labs (WFDCL). The test cases offered for Mobile WiMAX™ mobile stations (MS) are traceable to those provided on the R&S®TS8970 and follow the MRCT V2.2.1 (Mobile WiMAX™ Radio Conformance Test) specification. Unlike on the R&S®TS8970, the test cases on the R&S®TS8975 are not periodically revalidated, yielding significant cost savings for customers. Many test engineers are already familiar with the R&S®PASS user interface because an identical form of it is implemented in the widely used R&S®TS8950 certification system for GSM/WCDMA and in the R&S®TS8970 for Mobile WiMAX™. The R&S®TS8975 combines the characteristics of market-leading Rohde & Schwarz products Depending on the configuration, the R&S®TS8975 Mobile WiMAX™ RF preconformance test system combines the characteristics of the following market-leading products from Rohde & Schwarz:
R&S®CMW270 WiMAX™ communication tester The R&S®CMW270 WiMAX™ communication tester functions as a signal source for all MS tests, and performs all RX tests and some of the TX measurements. An optional message analyzer tool allows the detailed analysis of message content and burst structure. The tester is available with or without SVGA display. R&S®FSG or R&S®FSQ vector signal and spectrum analyzer The R&S®FSG and R&S®FSQ vector signal analyzers combine essential characteristics of the R&S®FMU vector signal analyzer and of the industry reference for spectrum analysis, the R&S®FSU, in one unit. In the R&S®TS8975, the R&S®FSG/FSQ handles the majority of the RF transmitter measurements. R&S®NRP power meter The R&S®NRP power meter is the first product of its kind that incorporates all measurement functionality in the sensor itself, i.e. it does not require a base unit. It serves as the R&S®TS8975 RF level reference and is used in the system's level and path calibration process as well as its automated sanity check procedure if R&S®ISSCU-2x2 is installed. Expansions available for the R&S®TS8975 R&S®AMU200A baseband generator The R&S®AMU200A baseband signal generator and fading simulator combines versatile realtime I/Q sources and a cost-effective multichannel fading simulator in one box. One or two of these instruments can be used to generate wanted and interfering signals, superimposed noise, and standard-compliant channel emulation. Switching units The components of the system and the DUT can be equipped with the favorably priced passive R&S®CS8980MST cable set. Optionally, they may be interconnected using the R&S®TS-EX-IQ2 baseband switching unit and/or the R&S®ISSCU-2x2 RF switching unit. Connections to the R&S®NRP and the DUT are then also included to enable fully automated level compensation routines. It is recommended to exercise great care when setting up a MIMO benchtop configuration. Increased convenience as well as protection from wiring errors may be obtained by including the R&S®ISSCU-2x2 in a rack configuration.

System configuration Test cases The availability of a specific bandwidth allows users to perform tests in all band class profiles using this bandwidth throughout the entire specified frequency range of 0.4/2.0 GHz to 6.0 GHz. This makes the R&S®TS8975 ready for R & D applications in many upcoming profiles.
