Rangehood: Installation, Operation & Care Rangehood Model: 6516070(D) Installation Operation & Maintenance Model: 6516070(D) Safety Precautions This rangehood has been designed to be mounted in a cabinet above a cooking hob. It can work either by ducting system (discharging exhaust to the outside air) or by Recirculation (where exhaust vapours are returned to the kitchen). Before starting the installation, consideration should be given to how the installation is to be carried out, ensuring Adequate space and clearances above the cooktop. Position of flueing. Availability of earthed power. The mechanical strength of supporting structures. The installation work must be undertaken by a qualified and competent person in conformity to the rules concerning the evacuation of contaminated air. The manufacturer does not accept any liability for any damage or injury caused by improper installation. Exhaust air must not be discharged into a flue which is used for exhausting fumes from appliances burning gas or other fuels. This does not apply to rangehoods installed to only discharge the air back into the room. Before connecting to the mains supply ensure that the mains voltage corresponds with the voltage on the rangehood’s rating plate. For cooker hoods featuring an earth wire, make sure the electric plant of your house is correctly earthed. When installed, the hood must be positioned at least 65cm above the hotplate. Never leave frying pans unattended during use as overheated fat and oil may catch fire. Before carrying out any kind of maintenance or cleaning, disconnect the hood from the mains supply. The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision. Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. There shall be adequate ventilation of the room when the rangehood is used at the same time as appliances burning gas or other fuels. (this does not apply to rangehoods constructed to only discharge the air back into the room) The appliance is fitted with removable filters. Ensure the filters are removed and thoroughly cleaned at least once every two months in accordance with these instructions. There is a fire risk if cleaning is not carried out in accordance with the instructions. Do not flambé under the rangehood. Local regulations concerning the discharge of air must be fulfilled. When using a gas cooktop never leave the burners uncovered while the hood is in use. Switch off the gas before removing the pan. This not only saves energy but avoids a potentially dangerous concentration of heat. Always ensure the rangehood is kept at the correct fan speed to prevent flames licking around the bottom of the pan. Rangehood: Installation, Operation & Care Model: 6516070(D) Installation Read This First Do not connect the appliance if there are obvious signs of transportation damage. Read this user manual thoroughly before attempting to use this appliance. Installation and repair should be attempted only by qualified technical personnel. It is dangerous to modify any part of this appliance. The manufacturer does not accept any responsibility in case of failure to adopt proper safety measures. Ensure the location in which this appliance is installed has adequate ventilation. The distance between the cooktop, to the lower part of the RangeHood must not be no less than 65 cm. The efficiency of the Rangehood will be largely reduced if installed higher than 75 cm away from the cooktop. The power socket used must be adequately earthed. Check that the voltage in your area is correct for the appliance, before plugging it in. Multiple plugs and extension cables must not be used. Overload is dangerous and may cause a fire. Ensure that the power supply cord is in good condition and is away from any heat source or sharp objects. The appliance should be switched off and the electrical supply disconnected before any cleaning or maintenance work can be carried out. Mounting the Rangehood Prepare the Cabinet Using the diagram and dimensions shown below, proceed to prepare the cabinet in order to hold the appliance in place. Power supply is to be supplied within the enclosure. If the appliance is going to be used to duct out the air, a hole will need to be made in accordance with the enclosed template, such that the ducting pipe can be run through. 2 Rangehood: Installation, Operation & Care Model: 6516070(D) Install the Rangehood Fix the Rangehood to the kitchen cabinet. The lower part of the Rangehood must be located at a minimum height of 65cm above the burners of the Cooktop. If the instructions of a Cooktop indicate a greater distance, these must be observed. Place the Rangehood on the underside of the cabinet and secure with 4 screws to the horizontal divider inside the cabinet. An allowance is to be made in the divider to get the power cord and plug through. NOTE: Use the template supplied with the rangehood to correctly position the holes required for screws, cord and flue. Ducted Installation St George always recommends installing the Rangehood in a fully ducted configuration. To install the Rangehood in the ducted configuration, the following preparation work must be done: - Ensure the correct provision was made in cabinetry to allow for the flue to come out of the RangeHood. - To the top of the RangeHood’s body fit the Flange, by inserting into the opening, turning by ~15° to lock in place, and secure with a screw. NOTE: ensure all 3 lugs of the Flange are engaging. - Insert the larger recirculation barrier into the slot at the top, front of the body, and secure with 2 screws. A hole of the appropriate diameter will need to be cut in the ceiling or wall. Connect the air outlet of the Rangehood to the outside air outlet using flexible or rigid ducting and suitable hose pipes (not provided). 120mm diameter piping can be connected directly; 150mm diameter piping can be connected using an adaptor. Minimise the number of bends and elbows to maximise the efficiency of the appliance. Carbon filters are not necessary for ducted installations. 3 Rangehood: Installation, Operation & Care Model: 6516070(D) Recirculating Installation St George always recommends installing Carbon Filters in a recirculated configuration. Where it is not possible to duct the exhaust fumes to the outside air, the unit can be installed to redirect the filtered vapours back into the kitchen. For this purpose you will need to fit the following items to the unit: - To the top of the RangeHood’s body fit the Top Vent Cap, by inserting into the opening, turning by ~15° to lock in place, and secure with a screw. - Insert the shorter Top Slot Cover into the slot at the top, front of the body, and secure with 2 screws. NOTE: The RangeHood can be Either Ducted OR Recirculating, but not both, so the correct set of accessories needs to be fitted to appliance prior to operation. The other set will not be in use. How to Fit the Carbon Filter Carbon Filters are included with your appliance, and are essential for the effective operation of the Rangehood in a recirculated situation. To - fit in the filters: Unplug the unit from the power source. Pull out the extendable part of the rangehood. Ensure both mode (speed) and light switches are in the ‘Off’ position. Remove all metal filters (see in the ‘Cleaning’ section how to remove). Remove existing Carbon filter (if any), and clip a new one to place as follows: - To install the charcoal filter, the motor anchoring points are made to coincide with the anchor points of the Activated Charcoal (Carbon) Filter. Holding the filter with the bulging side down, first locate the tab (1) in the groove under the motor entry, and then lift the other side, until the clip (2) is locked into place. Your carbon filter is now fitted. To remove carbon filter, press the clip (2) towards the filter, and pull gently down. - - 4 Rangehood: Installation, Operation & Care Model: 6516070(D) Electrical connection The hood is equipped with a plug. This can be connected to a nearby power socket. The power socket must be adequately earthed. All electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician. Replace Grease Filters You will need to ensure the filters are properly in place before finalising and testing installation. Before Leaving Check The Following All filters are put back in place. The overhead lights work as expected. If not, replace with identical bulbs. Check that motor, fan and speed controls all operate correctly. If not, check wiring and installation. Check all screws connections are firm and the unit is secured into the cabinet. Operation This appliance is designed to direct the fumed produced during cooking through a filtration system and discharge them back into the room via the front or externally through the top duct, depending on which configuration was installed. In order to efficiently operate this appliance, the following must be observed: - Only operate the Rangehood with extendable part fully extended to the front. This will ensure easier suction, larger filtration area and a freer discharge. - When in recirculation mode, this appliance will only work correctly with Carbon Filters installed (see in Page 4 how to install and replace Carbon filters). - Carbon Filters have an active material in them. With use this material is spent and the filter must be replaced (it cannot be cleaned or re-vitalised in any other way). For this reason, it is important the filters are replaced regularly. - Always ensure the discharge slots in the front are free, clean and unobstructed. - Never place any object on the extended filter. Controls 5 Light Speed ON Low Off Off Automatic High Rangehood: Installation, Operation & Care Model: 6516070(D) Instructions for Use The Rangehood has 3 speed settings, and 3 light settings: - Low speed for light cooking, low odour applications - The motor is off - High speed for heavy cooking, frying and high odour applications - The light is on - The lights are off A - The light is On while the extendable part is out, and turned Off as soon as it is pushed back in. Description of Parts NOTE: It is a feature of this appliance to only allow the motor to run when the extendable part is pulled out. Please ensure this filter is fully extended when operating the appliance. To achieve better extraction, it is recommended to switch on the Rangehood a few minutes before starting to cook (3-5 minutes) so that the air flow is continuous and stable when extracting fumes. Likewise, keep the Rangehood switched on for a few minutes when cooking is complete to allow all fumes and odours to be expelled. 6 Rangehood: Installation, Operation & Care Model: 6516070(D) Basic Maintenance Before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance, ensure that the appliance is disconnected from the mains power and follow the safety instructions. Cleaning the Metal Filters To remove the mesh filters from their frames, simultaneously push in the latches on the underside of the filter, and pull the filter down. Clean the filters by either putting them in the dishwasher or by soaking in hot water and mild detergent. To assist with removal of grease, a soft plastic brush can also be used. Once clean, allow filters to dry thoroughly before replacing in the appliance. NOTE: fitting wet filters and operating the appliance, could result in water spraying internal electrical parts, and causing electric shock hazard! NOTE: cleaning filters in the dishwasher using aggressive detergents may result in discolouration of metallic parts. This will not affect the performance of the filters. The mesh filter must be cleaned at least once a month depending on frequency of use. Please keep in mind that grease will accumulate on the underside of the Rangehood when cooking, whether it is used or not. Cleaning the Appliance Body Only use a damp cloth in lukewarm, soapy water on the outside surfaces. Do not allow any liquids to go into the appliance, and ensure the appliance is thoroughly dry before re-connecting to power and operating it. NOTE: Never use metallic scouring pads or abrasive products that could damage the surface. Do not use scrapers with metallic surfaces such as knives, scissors etc. Changing the Light Bulb Remove the fixed filter to access the bulbs, on the inside, rear of the appliance. Unscrew the bulb to be replaced in an anticlockwise direction to remove. Replace with another 240v / 5w [max] bulb, and replace filter. NOTE: Ensure the appliance is disconnected from the power and that light had been turned off a few minutes before, such that bulbs to be removed are not hot. 7 Rangehood: Installation, Operation & Care Model: 6516070(D) Troubleshooting Problem Possible Cause Does not function No electrical supply Poor airflow Motor cuts out after a few minutes Strong cooking smell Oil dripping onto Cooktop Whirring sound Aluminium filters grease clogged Charcoal grease filters clogged High temperature safety device activated The hood is installed too close to the cooktop Carbon filters not installed, or need to be replaced Aluminium grease filter saturated Foreign object in contact with fan blade Action Check that the plug is connected.
