The Alarm Memory allows for quick detection of nuisance tripping as discussed later. The Horn Driver feature enables meeting loudness requirements with a standard piezo electric buzzer with voltages down to 6V, while the hush feature can be used to “hush” that sound when by placing the detector in a less sensitive state when the user determines the condition is non-threatening. Not only has this I.C. been designed to use very little current, it also will warn when the battery is low. It also warns if there is an issue with detection. While operating over a range of temperatures much broader than most living environments the interconnect feature provides a way for up to forty devices to sound together if one determines that a smoke event has occurred. This I/O has been design to allow CO detectors to join the group. The Photo version is available in both narrow and wide 16 volt SOIC and both Ion and Photo are available in 16 PDIP. 2 Products offered  Temporal Horn Pattern (Used by Most)  RE46C162 Ion with ten minute Hush  RE46C163 Ion with one minute Hush  RE46C165 Photo with ten minute Hush  RE46C167 Photo with one minute Hush  Continuous Tone Pattern  RE46C166 Photo with ten minute Hush  RE45C168 Photo with one minute Hush © 2006 Microchip Technology Incorporated. The 16x series has been chosen for this first family of Alarm memory product. The 162 & 3 having Ion chamber interface functionality and the 165 through 168 interfacing to the Photo detector configuration. S and P represent SOIC and PDIP respectively while an W is added for the wide version of the SOIC. These package types are followed by the number of leads in this case 16 and then a “T” if the tape and reel version is required. 4 Unique Strengths  Alarm Memory  So What: Allows quick identification of nuisance tripping device in an interconnected loop. This reduces installation time and cost. (When one device triggers in such a loop they all do making the false tripping device difficult to determine.) © 2006 Microchip Technology Incorporated. As wonderful as it is to be warned in your bedroom about a fire in the basement, it is not so pleasant if the event was a false trip. Unfortunately, with detectors so looped one cannot tell which detector committed the offense and should be replaced if defective or move if in a bad location, as in too close to the kitchen or bathroom. Alarm Memory removes the guess work. The Detector that triggered the alarm will member and give a different signal so that it can be identified. With detector so easily owning up to the truth installation time and cost is quickly reduced. 5 Unique Strengths  Interconnect Filter and Charge Dump  So What: System with both Smoke and CO will sound correctly and quickly leave the alarm state when indicated.  1 minute and 10 minute Hush.  So What: 1 minute may be needed for local requirement. 10 minute reduces multiple single event triggering and thus reduces annoyance and extends battery life. © 2006 Microchip Technology Incorporated. Slide 6 The astute among us may have noticed that CO and Smoke Detectors make a different alarm sound so that when you run screaming from you home to save your life you can identify which event has occurred. Once you have you wits about you, you will then be able to contact the Fire Department or Gas Company as the alarm indicated. Unfortunately, many detectors are incapable of determining which detector asserted the event and so they make their respective sounds on interconnect alarms. The interconnect filter allows the Smoke Detector to Sound CO alarm on a CO event and smoke on a smoke event. The hush feature allows quieting of the alarms by the user. For example you burned your dinner and now your smoke detector is loudly reminding you of your indiscretion. The hush feature allows the resident to simply press the test button and gain time to allow the smoke to clear. A longer hush reduces the chances of multiple single event false sounding and preserves battery life. The short hush allows for a shorter state of the detector being less sensitive and possibly missing a different event. The charge dump feature further reduces the annoyance of the alarm and wasted energy by more quickly pulling all the alarms out of alarm state when the interconnect line is cleared. 6 RE46C161,2,5,6,7,8 Summary Feature Benefits Results Alarm Memory Remembers if tripped making it easy to determine which device set off the group. Defective unit or bad location (for example, by or in a Kitchen or bathroom) can be found. Interconnect Filter & Charge Dump Signal on Interconnect line correctly identified and interconnect line quickly cleared when out of alarm state. Alarm sounds correctly and stops alarming out of alarm state more quickly. Longer Hush Unit can be hushed longer during a nuisance trip. Less noise, longer battery life. © 2006 Microchip Technology Incorporated. All Rights Reserved. Slide 7 Alarm Memory allows a Smoke Detector to remember if it has tripped an alarm. This makes it easier to determine which device tripped in interconnected systems reducing set-up time and installation cost. The Interconnect Filter I/O and Charge Dump allow the correct signal to be identified and the line to be quickly cleared. The system can then correctly sound for a given event and be removed from alarming more quickly. Longer Hush reduces multiple triggering due to a single event thus reducing noise and increasing battery life. 7 Availability     Data Sheet available at www.microchip.com Pricing in Price Book: US$0.98, each in 10k-unit quantities.
