Sample Workflows – Deploy to YouTube
February 22, 2016
Overview Vantage for Social Media makes publishing video to social media sites accessible, fast and easy for social media and digital marketing professionals, strategists, coordinators, specialists and producers. Unlike alternatives that require professional editing systems, extensive knowledge and skills to produce social media highlights, Vantage for Social Media eliminates technology distractions, allowing marketing professionals to focus upon maximizing the impact and clarity of messaging and communication. This demo package will demonstrate how to submit media and metadata to Vantage for deployment to YouTube. Both attended and unattended ingest methods are included.
Requirements – Licenses, Media, Metadata Minimum Requirements
Vantage v6.3 UP5 (or later) licensed with: o Vantage Transcode (V-XCODE-SW) o Vantage Social Media option (V-SOCMED) YouTube deployment o Google account with at least one YouTube Channel o YouTube channels must be fully verified and in good standing
Optional requirements Some workflow will require additional Vantage licensing. See the workflow descriptions for details.
Vantage licensing options o Vantage Metadata Conversion (V-METADATA-SW) o Vantage Workflow Portal (V-PORTAL)
Social Media Sample Workflows The Social Media Connector sample workflow package includes nine (5) workflows that demonstrate how Vantage can be used to deploy to Social Media.
Four (4) YouTube Deploy workflows One (1) Ingest into Social Media Catalog workflow o This workflow is used to register media assets into a Vantage Catalog o Media assets contained within Vantage Catalogs are used in conjunction with Vantage’s Workflow Portal
Each YouTube workflow sample utilizes identical Transcode and Deploy actions in their respective workflows. Only the workflow’s type (the action type used to start a workflow) differs between each workflow example. Origin actions are used to acquire media and other associate files to be used in the workflow. All workflow must begin with an Origin action. Origin actions (Watch, Receive,

Camera Ingest and Workorder) are used to acquire a media file and extract metadata that will be processed by downstream workflow actions. YouTube transcode and Deploy (common for all workflows) Each YouTube workflow’s transcode and deploy section contains four (4) Vantage actions.
Flip Action – This action performs a transcode on the incoming source media file. The transcode produces an H.264 QuickTime file with a frame size of 640 x 360 and a frame rate of 30fps. The specifics of the Flip action’s transcode can be changed to any media type you wish. Deploy Action – The Deploy action delivers the output file of the Flip Action to the YouTube channel specified. The Deploy action includes several metadata fields used to populate their respective YouTube fields. For more information about the Deploy action’s YouTube configuration parameters read the Vantage Social Media Connector Application note located at - http://www.telestream.net/pdfs/appnotes/app-Vantage-Social-Media-Connector.pdf Message Action(s) – The Message action sends email indicating success or failure. If media is successfully deploy to YouTube, the body of the email will contain a YouTube link to the deployed video.
Watch workflow The simplest way to submit media to a Vantage workflow is through one that starts with a single Watch Action. Media files are submitted manually through a Vantage client or by dropping a media file into the folder being watched by the respective workflow’s Watch action. Submit manually with pre-determined metadata While using a single watch action makes for a simple workflow it does not allow for external metadata to be included. Only variables with predetermined default metadata values can be used.

Two sample workflows are provided using a single Watch action. YouTube metadata parameters are gathered from the default variables values. Use single Watch action workflows to learn and understand how Vantage can deploy to Social Media. Submit using the Vantage Adobe Panel with metadata Workflows with a single Watch folder can be used when submitting media from Adobe Premiere Pro CC using the Vantage Adobe Panel. The Vantage Adobe Panel allows an editor to submit jobs directly from Premiere Pro CC with included metadata. For more information about the Vantage Adobe Panel review the Vantage Adobe Panel Application Note located at http://www.telestream.net/pdfs/appnotes/app_Vantage_AdobePremiere.pdf. For more information about the Actions used in this workflow see the Vantage Actions chapter in the Vantage User Guide - http://www.telestream.net/pdfs/user-guides/Vantage-UserGuides/Vantage-UserGuide.pdf
Watch and Associate workflow A workflow with Watch and Associate actions is provided as part of this sample workflow package. This workflow extracts external metadata contained in an XML file and populates this data into the respective YouTube variable that are to be used in the Deploy action. This workflow requires the addition of Vantage Metadata Conversion (V-METADATA-SW) option.
Watch Action – The Watch action will submit media files matching specific parameters upon arrival in the monitored folder. Associate Action – The Associate action associates an additional file with the media file acquired through the Watch Action. In the case of this workflow the associated file is an XML containing metadata used to populate the YouTube metadata fields within the Deploy action. For this workflow the XML file should have the same name as the media file obtained from the Watch action. The workflow proceeds only when both the Watch action and Associate action have successfully acquired their respective files.

Transform Action – The Transform action uses a custom XSLT stylesheet to transform the metadata values contained in the incoming XML metadata file into their respective Vantage Label metadata fields. Populate Action – The Populate action takes the metadata contained in the Vantage Label created in the Transform action and populates the YouTube variables. Now that all of the YouTube variables are populated with the external metadata values acquired from the XML, the workflow can proceed to the transcode and deploy actions. For more information about the Actions used in this workflow see the Vantage Actions chapter in the Vantage User Guide - http://www.telestream.net/pdfs/user-guides/Vantage-UserGuides/Vantage-UserGuide.pdf Additionally learn more about how to transform XML using XSLT by reviewing http://www.telestream.net/pdfs/app-notes/app_Vantage_Ingest_XML_into_Label.pdf
Workorder workflow Another method of acquiring media and external metadata into a workflow is by using a Workorder action. Workorder actions use Workorder Schemas (created using the Vantage Management Console) to describes how data contained in a Workorder file is to be parsed and used within the workflow. A workorder file will contain the path to a media file and any other metadata that may is required for the workflow. Workorder Action – The is similar to a Watch action with additional capability for extracting metadata from the submitted Workorder file. This action accepts only properly formatted Workorder files. Workorder files are text files containing metadata in a comma separated value format (CSV). The structure of data contained in the workorder file is defined by a Workorder schema. This sample workflow package includes a sample Workorder file and associated Workorder schema specifically designed for YouTube and Twitter. The basic Workorder file structure for the Social Media example is - [Path to Media file],[9 YouTube parameters],[2 Twitter parameters]. For more information about the Actions used in this workflow see the Vantage Actions chapter in the Vantage User Guide - http://www.telestream.net/pdfs/user-guides/Vantage-UserGuides/Vantage-UserGuide.pdf
Receive workflow Workflows that begin with a Receive action are designed to receive media files, Vantage labels or Vantage attachment files from other systems or applications. For example Receive actions will accept input from Vantage workflows using a Forward action, from a Pipeline Control for Windows Vantage plug-in, from a Vantage Workflow Portal or from a Vantage SDK-based custom application. Submit from baseband SDI (live or tape based) using Pipeline Control Live or tape based SDI signals can be captured and submitted to Vantage using a Pipeline system’s Pipeline Control for Windows software application. The application’s Vantage publish plug-in can submit Sample Workflows – Deploy to YouTube

directly to a Vantage Workflow containing a Receive action at its origin. If the Receive action also includes one or more Vantage labels the Pipeline Control UI will display each label and allow their metadata fields to be populated prior to capture. For more information about submitting to Vantage from a Pipeline system read the Using Vantage Publish……. section in Chapter 6 – Using Pipeline Control of the Pipeline Control for Windows User Guide - http://www.telestream.net/download-files/pipeline/guides/PipelineUG-Win.pdf Submit from a Vantage Catalog using the Vantage Workflow Portal In order to use the Vantage Workflow Portal you must first populate the Social Media Jobs catalog with media assets. To register media into the catalog use the Ingest into Social Media Catalog workflow to manually submit the demo media. Once more than one asset is present in the Social Media Jobs catalog you can open the Social Media Work workflow portal and submit to YouTube with associated metadata. 1. Open the Workflow Portal application and select Change/Reload Application Configuration… from the File menu. 2. From the Select Configuration dialog select the Social Media Work configuration. 3. From the main portal UI select the clip you wish to deploy, and then select the workflow you wish to submit the media file to from the Forward to Workflows tabs, and then click Submit. 4. From the Submit Jobs dialog select the YouTube-Twitter metadata label, fill in the data fields and then click Submit. 5. Your job is will now be submitted to the workflow you selected with all the associated metadata.
This workflow requires the addition of Vantage Metadata Conversion (V-METADATA-SW) and Vantage Workflow Portal (V-PORTAL) options.
