Activating your AMTECH software AMTECH software is sold as a single user, single installation licence unless otherwise specified in your licence agreement. The software may be installed and activated on a single computer. Multi-user licence agreements will allow the software to be installed and activated on the specified number of computers. The software is protected and requires activation before unrestricted use. Before activation there will be full functionality but the message “DEMONSTRATION ONLY” will be printed on all documents. You will receive reminders to activate the software, however, after 30 days the software must be activated. Please Note: AMTECH Mobile programs, i.e. SingleCable Mobile, FastTest Mobile and GasCert Mobile do not require activating. How do I Activate my AMTECH software? Activating your new software is a two step process Step 1 - Send your ‘Request Code’ to AMTECH The preferred method of activation is to use the ‘REQUEST ACTIVATION CODE’ button which sends your ‘Request Code’ to AMTECH electronically. An email auto-responder will check to ensure that your company is the registered purchaser of the software and that there is a user licence available. The auto-responder operates 24 hours a day seven days per week, giving prompt response any time of day. The activate dialog box may appear at start-up and various other times indicating how many days you have left. If the dialog box doesn’t appear automatically then it can be accessed by going to the ‘Support’ menu and selecting ‘Activate software’

Click on the ‘REQUEST ACTIVATION CODE’ button.
On pressing the ‘Confirm’ button an activation request will be sent via the AMTECH website. The email response from AMTECH will be sent to the address entered on the Activation Request dialog. Users who are unable to activate electronically may call the AMTECH Activation Hotline on 0871 220 8880 (Monday to Friday 10am – 5pm). The number is displayed on the activation dialog box. An AMTECH representative will undertake the security checks manually then, if appropriate, authorise and issue an unlock code. Please note that this manual activation process may take several minutes. We strongly suggest that you use the email method if possible as the process of dictating and recording a long code by phone is open to transcription errors. Please do not contact AMTECH Support or AMTECH Sales regarding activation or de-activation as they are unable to process these requests. Telephone calls are recorded to help prevent fraud.
Step 2 - Receive your ‘Activation Code’ and activate your software. Check your email inbox. When you receive your ‘Activation code’ from AMTECH you must enter this into the lower box. Use copy and paste functions if possible to eliminate transcription errors. If you have received your activation code by phone enter it into the lower box. Be sure to type it accurately. The majority of the support problems relating to activation are due to incorrectly recorded or mis-typed activation codes. Then click on the ‘Activate Now’ button to complete the process.

AMTECH 2009 Upgrade
This initial AMTECH 2009 upgrade release includes many new features and enhancements. These are described in the following pages.
Automatic Updates AMTECH software can automatically check whether a suitable web update is available. If an update is available then the automatic update feature will offer to download and install it for you. The AMTECH Automatic Update feature is available in all AMTECH desktop products (i.e. non Mobile products). We recommend checking for updates as soon as you have installed your AMTECH software. You can force an update check at any time by selecting the ‘Support’ menu, selecting the ‘Check for Updates’ option and clicking on the ‘Check Now’ button. In order to be quickly informed of any appropriate web updates for your AMTECH software in the future you should ensure that the ‘Check For Updates’ feature is always enabled.

This booklet is designed to outline the changes to your AMTECH software. Further details can be found in the software help system and electronic manual. These can be accessed via the software ‘Help’ menu.
FastTest Multi-User Network Ready This feature for FastTest Plus and Pro versions enables the database to be stored in one location and accessed by many. This allows anyone logged onto the server to access the same database, reducing the risk of satellite databases being created by each user. You can now access your database through more ways than ever, using the internet, network or as a disconnected user using the new ‘Check Out’ feature. Advanced versions of FastTest also enable information to be merged together to avoid duplication.

New Data Security All FastTest 2009 users have their own individual user name and password in which you can set different permissions depending on how much authority you would like to give to each user. This security feature not only helps protect your company from the misuse of data but also prevents inexperienced users accessing and amending different areas of the database.
Enhanced Certificates To ensure you are using the most up to date certificates we have added new and enhanced certificates to FastTest 2009. •
NEW Domestic Periodic
•
Enhanced Emergency Lighting Completion
•
Enhanced Emergency Lighting Inspection and Test
The new Domestic Periodic certificate now includes 4 page multi-board, suitable for larger domestic installations, plus our enhanced certificates will bring you right up to date with the latest regulations.
Dynamic Certificate Interface An enhanced look and feel to the certificate interface allows you to quickly view search and add boards within a certificate with complete ease. You can easily access as many boards as you wish by using the tabs to navigate within the certificate interface. Plus you can re-arrange the boards to suit the requirements of your installation by dragging the boards into position. It is also very easy to view which engineer has worked on specific boards, great for large installations where there could be multiple engineers working on one installation. Select the engineer to identify the boards they are working on.

FastTest Mobile Multi-Engineer Import This enables data from several PDAs to be merged into the main FastTest database. So a multi-board certificate can be exported from the desktop to each engineer. The data can then be imported back into FastTest 2009 to be merged into one certificate, without over-riding data. This feature will not only save your business time but also allows you to have more than one engineer on a job at any one time, giving you greater flexibility.
Auto Import There is no longer any need to prepare your FastTest Mobile database before export. Upon connection of your PDA to a desktop all certificates marked as completed will be automatically transferred to your desktop.

Advanced Certificate Options You can now copy certificates in FastTest Mobile. This feature saves you the time of duplicating details and avoids human error to ensure accuracy. Once the PDA has been synchronised with the desktop, all client, installation and engineer details are exported to the PDA. This reduces the risk of duplicate details being created.
Multiple Certificate Export This feature allows you to export as many certificates from your desktop to FastTest Mobile as you need. For instance, this feature allows you to download all the relevant certificates for multiple jobs from your desktop version of FastTest to be used throughout the week.
New Certificates We have now introduced two new certificates for use in FastTest Mobile: •
Domestic Periodic
•
Emergency Lighting Inspection and Test
Logo Transfer You can now download your company and governing body logos directly to FastTest Mobile. This not only saves you time but ensures consistency of logos between your PDA and desktop.

A new Cable Energy Loss report has also been included
Concealed Cables This feature helps to ensure you are compliant with the provisions intended in clauses 522.6.6 to 522.6.8 of BS 7671:2008.
When specifying a cable enclosed in a wall, a dialog box is displayed asking about the type of wall and environment. After entering the requested details this feature will indicate whether the proposed installation is COMPLIANT or NON COMPLIANT. This is an easy way to adhere to the regulations and to protect against the possibility of an electrical shock hazard arising from cables concealed within walls, etc. being inadvertently drilled through or otherwise damaged. A ‘Settings’ button will appear on the Cable dialog when an appropriate cable type and installation method is selected.

Tabulated Cable Rating on Cable Dialog The rating of each cable is now shown alongside the cable size on the cable form.
Selectable Max. Earth Fault Discon. Time ProDesign automatically calculates the maximum earth fault disconnection time applicable to each circuit as defined in BS7671:2008 section 411.3.2. Occasionally you may want to use a shorter disconnection time than shown. This feature will allow you to use either the auto function or to specify a maximum earth fault disconnection time for final circuits.
However, if you inadvertently enter a time limit that exceeds the auto calculated value (i.e. that stated in Table 41.1) a calculation error will appear.
Quick Report Access The option to produce reports is now available from the schematic right click menu. Selecting multiple components enables you to view the reports for all selected items at the same time. You can now also access your reports through the Errors and Warnings dialog. A new toolbar button will allow you to re-run the last report instantly after changes have been made.
