LIBRARY AND INFORMATION RESOURCES NETWORK GATEWAY 3.6 Release Notes Ne w Fe a tu re s The LIRN® Gateway is a hosted portal to resources in the LIRN® collection. This is a brief summary of the changes in the May 2013 maintenance release, also known as Gateway version 3.6. ProQuest Sub-Accounts for Statistics Collection Gateway 3.6 adds support for sub-accounts on the ProQuest platform. Access to the vendor reporting tool for COUNTER statistics will be added to the LIRN® Admin Console in a future Gateway release. Should you have questions about or need assistance with your ProQuest access, please contact the LIRN® technical services team first. The technical services team is able to solve many issues directly, and can coordinate with ProQuest on any general issues that may affect the broader LIRN® membership. LIRNS e a rch® Sub-Account Support As part of the vendor sub-account project, in Spring 2013 LIRN® contracted with our federated search vendor, Muse Global, to add support for vendor sub-accounts in the LIRNS e a rch® service. After the deployment of Gateway 3.6, the LIRN® technical services team will be enabling this feature in LIRNS e a rch® to provide a complete view of your patrons’ usage of LIRN® resources. If you have resources that were purchased directly from other vendors, or additional resources from LIRN® vendors and would like to search those resources with a custom LIRNS e a rch+® service, please contact us for a custom quote. Hosted Proxy Service Enhancements The LIRN® Hosted Proxy service now supports usage reporting and basic web hosting. Additionally, HTTP caching support has been added to the Hosted Proxy service, to increase overall database performance. Legacy URLs If you are still linking to the legacy /services.shtml, /cgi-bin/auth.pl, or /auth URLs, please take a moment and update your LIRN® links. The legacy authentication URLs now display a notice for 20 seconds before taking the user into the Gateway. Please see the Links -> LIRN® Gateway Menu screen in the LIRN® Administration Console for current information on constructing links to LIRN® services. S u p p o rte d We b Brows e rs The technical team monitors what technologies are used to access LIRN®, as well as what technologies are supported by our vendors. We also watch general Internet trends to ensure that the Gateway will be able to support new and upcoming technologies as they are adopted by users. While we attempt to make the Gateway work with as many platforms combinations as possible, the newer web browsers support capabilities that allow for enhanced functionality to be added. We check older browsers to ensure that they work as well as they are able to, but some older browsers may not display pages correctly, or not support certain features. By now, your IT departments should have updated your systems to Internet Explorer 8 or newer, and should have plans for migrating away from Windows XP prior to the endof-support date for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. At the time of this writing, the browsers supported include: Gale Cengage Learning • Internet Explorer 8.x to 10.x on Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7 and 8 • Firefox 5.x to 20.x on Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7 and 8; Mac OS X 10.6 to 10.8; Linux • Safari 4.1 to 6.x on Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7 and 8; Mac OS X 10.6 to 10.8 • Opera 9.x to 12.x on Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7 and 8; Mac OS X 10.6 to 10.8 • Chrome 9.x to 26.x on Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7 and 8; Mac OS X 10.6 to 10.8 ProQuest PAGE 2 OF 3 RELEASE NOTES LIBRARY AND INFORMATION RESOURCES NETWORK GATEWAY 3.6 • Internet Explorer 7 and later • Firefox 10 and later • Chrome 18 and later • Safari 5 and later CREDO Reference • Internet Explorer 7 and later • Firefox 3 and later • Chrome 8 and later • Safari 3 and later • Opera 11 and later LIRN® Gateway The Gateway supports Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9, and 10 (both Desktop and Metro versions).
