3. LICENSES Some IPDirector modules are subject to license which can be activated in XSecure software.
The license modules have been adapted to match the new IPDirector price list. This means that all IPDirector setups need new license codes in order to run IPDirector 6.70.

4. OPERATING SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY IP Director 6.70 is compatible with - Windows 7 32 bits - Windows 7 64 bits
IPDirector 6.70 is not compatible with windows XP. This is because IPDirector requires .NET 4.5, which is not compatible with windows XP. Please check IPD_hdw_os_compatibility_6.70.pdf to see if your hardware is compatible with windows 7.

5. SQL SERVER COMPATIBILITY IP Director 6.70 is only compatible with SQL Server 2008. SQL server 2008 cannot be installed on Windows Server 2003 O/S.
IPDirector 6.70 is not compatible with SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2005 express.
If your DB is running on a windows 7 workstation, SQL Server express 2005 can be updgraded to SQL Server express 2008 through the install HTA. If your DB is running on a dedicated DB hardware running Windows Server 2003, please contact EVS to see if your hardware is upgradable to Windows Server 2008.

6. UPGRADE/DOWNGRADE PROCEDURE Upgrade/downgrade procedure to/from version 6.70 : Procedure_Upgrade_Downgrade_IPD_6.70.pdf A new maintenance job – BootStrapperIndexingService job - has been introduced since IPD 6.70 due to Elasticsearch engine introduction. It is mandatory to install this maintenance job even if Elasticsearch is not used in your setup. DB Servers must be upgraded with the latest SQL Toolkit. Latest SQL toolkit version : Install_SQL_Toolkit_6.70.02.exe To deploy IPBrowse or IPClipLogger, refer to the IP Director Technical Manual (TechRef).

Shortcuts for TLO
When the IPEdit is in play while editing mode, up to now the only way to play the online TimeLine was with the mouse. In this version, 3 new shortcuts have been added, which are active only in TLO mode: By default, the shortcuts are: - TLO Recue : CTL-Q - TLO Play : CTL-O - TLO Pause : CTL-P Of course, these shortcuts can be customised in the Shortcuts interface. These shortcut will work inside IP Edit not matter where the focus is (player or timeline).

When the TLO is locked, these shortcuts are ignored. IPD Director will recognise media encoded in XAVC Intra 4K on the Nearline. These files are only generated by XT Access for export to NLE. They are mainly recognised on Nearline so that they can be used in Adobe in conjunction with IPLink. Limitations: - no restore to server - not supported in software player - these files can't be read by XT Access so no send to target

Better and faster interactivity in control panel for clip creation and update

The idea is to be able to create the clip as soon as the IN and OUT points are created and be able to quickly edit the new clip's metadata after creation. Workflow : 1. Mark IN 2. Mark OUT 3. Allow backup to NL and Database D&D to NL from another Explorer NL
In order to fulfil this workflow, 3 things have been done: 1. The clip info tab has been updated for better interactivity 2. The Name field has been added to the clip info tab 2. There is a new option to automatically reload the last clip created from that control panel. This option also works if the clip is created from the shuttle pro or BePlay associated to the control panel The aim of this feature is to be able to transfer clips from one NL to another, for example to send a clip from a high speed storage to a second tier of storage. Up to now, it was impossible to D&D a file from inside a NL node to another NL node OR to do a Backup to NL from a clip in Nearline node. These limitations had been put in at the time where an IPD setup consisted of some servers and one NearLine. If a clip was on the NearLine, the only possible destination was to restore it to the server. Nowadays, there can be different tiers of NearLine or different NearLines for different purposes.

These limitations have thus been removed and D&D from one NearLine to another or Backup to Nearline is always allowed. When the user starts a new take, he sometimes presses the start button too late and misses some images and the corresponding switcther cuts. The idea is to add a specific guardband at the begin of the take so the images and the cuts are present. Limitations: - the guardbands are only added on the IN point, not on the OUT point - the guardbands are only available when using Xsquare targets - the duration of the guardband is defined in the Clip setting page The operator needs to be able to send a finished take as EDL as soon as the take is finished. Up to now, it was only possible to send the whole program as EDL so even if the EDL was sent at the end of each take, the whole EDL was sent and that is not practical. A new button has been added for each take, allowing the operator to send the EDL only for that take.

Replace the "XT Generic User User" mention by a real Manager user
Up to now, all clips created from the LSM remote always "XT Generic User" as owner. This user cannot be put in a user group. This means that in order to see clips created on the remote, clips visibility had to be set to "all". This makes user rights definition impossible in a mixed IPDirector/LSM environement. From this version, there is a new tab in the user manager that allows the administrator to associate a server to an existing IPD User. By default, no user is associated to a server. All clips created by the remote on that server will have the associated user as owner.

If that user is changed, the owner of existing clips is not changed but all new clips will be associated to the new user. All targets defined in Xsquare are now visible seamlessly in IPDirector and available for the following - send to of clips, playlists, edits and timelines - ingest scheduler streaming targets - melt destination - bin rules - targets for director's cut - API The only configuration needed in IPDirector is the address of Xsquare and credentials (for ingest scheduler). Limitation: In order to see an Xsquare target, the user must exist in the IPDirector AND Xsquare databases. All targets publishing is done within the Xsquare interface. User synchronisation is automatic when in Active Directory mode but manual in normal authentication.

Because of different technical reasons, it will not be possible to integrate XPlore in IPDirector as an IPDirector plugin as initially anounced. XPlore will have to be kept as a separate window (outside of IPDirector). The workflow we want to address here is to be able to search for logs in DBExplorer, select a log and d&d it inside the XPlore window. The d&d will be done in a specific “d&d zone” in XPlore. The XPlore will then load the current angle (and ISOs) at the log TC in the truck at the venue. From XPlore, it is then possible to subclip in the truck, select the relevant angle and transfer the corresponding hi-res at the sport center. Limitation of the first version : - XPlore will have to be connected to the right production - XPlore will not switch automatically to another production if a log from a different logsheet is selected

12. KNOWN LIMITATIONS 12.1.
DOWNGRADE FROM IPDIRECTOR 6.57+
IPDirector 6.57 implements encryption in all configuration files. The encryption of the files is automatic when performing an upgrade but downgrading those files is not supported. This means that if you need to downgrade your system to IPDirector 6.56 or lower without loosing your configurations, you must have made a copy of those files prior to upgrade to 6.57 (see Procedure_Upgrade_IP6.4+_to_6.56.pdf for exact upgrade procedure). When downgrading, you MUST clean ALL IPDirector/thin client workstations of all traces of IPDirector using the IPDirectorStationCleaner tool prior to installing an older version. The IPDirector Station Cleaner tool is available from the download center. After installing the downgraded version, you can then, if needed, restore your DB Backup and put the saved configuration files back in their place.
12.2.
Visibility in IPDirector: IPDirector will not have any visibility on XT3 LoRes. This means that there will not be an indication that there is a LoRes XT Clip in an asset. It will, however, be possible to browse XT3 LoRes. If present, the LoRes will automatically be loaded on the the software player for LoRes and Hi-Lo browsers. The HiRes wil only be loaded for HiRes only browsers. Quality of the browsing in IPDirector: there are still a couple of issues remaining when browsing XT3 LoRes Lagging in some cases when outside of the cache (at high speed > 5x) Lack of reactivity when stop browsing. The stop does not necessarily occurs straight away which means you stop further away compared to where you wanted to stop.
12.3.
XT3 LORES LIMITATIONS
DIRECTOR’S CUT
The primary TC of all the recorders selected during Director’s Cut configuration must be set to LTC. The production name is limited to 50 characters. In the Autoname setting, it is mandatory to define at least one variable which is specific to each clip. The clips (takes) created on the EVS video servers by Director’s Cut have guardbands IN. The EDL generated by Director’s Cut cannot be used in Xedio Clean Edit. When an EDL generated by Director’s Cut is imported in Avid Standalone, the metadata of the edit are not displayed at the Edit level but only at the Media level. When an EDL generated by Director’s Cut is imported in Avid Interplay, the multicamera group and media are not automatically imported with the edit. The user must import them separately Snell Kahuna & Kahuna360 switchers are not validated
12.4. USING IP BROWSE/IP CLIP LOGGER ON AN IP DIRECTOR WORKSTATION
Workstation with old versions of IP Director: it is forbidden to install IP Browse/IP Clip logger on a workstation with a version of IP Director different than the version compatible with IP Browse/IP Clip Logger. This is because IP Browse/IP Clip Logger will use installed IPD routing if one exists on the machine. All IPD services need to be uninstalled from the workstation before IP Browse can be installed. Workstations with IP Browse/Clip Logger and IP Director: it is permitted to run IP Director in parallel with IP Browse/IP Clip Logger but there is one limitation: Software player cannot be started in IP Director. It is forbidden to run both IP Browse and IP Clip Logger at the same time on the same machine.

IPWEB
IPWeb is only released with a maximum of 100 concurrent users. IPDirector can only support up to 100 concurrent API accesses, so if other modules or external softwares also uses some API connections, the number of concurrent IPWeb accesses that the IPDirector can support will be reduced accordingly.
12.6.
In XDCam, when accessing a LIVE feed through the XNet, it can only be accessed with a delay of 9 seconds from the LIVE compared to a few seconds in INTRA codec.

METADATA PLAYLIST
Post-Roll : The post-roll mode is not synchronised between multicam and IPD. The post-roll mode will be lost (changed) if the channel configuration is changed (i.e : passing from pgm/prv to 1 pgm mode will reset the postroll information). Jump On Time: Online Playlists are limited to maximum 50 triggers ‘Jump On Time’.

Predefined values in user fields (type combo) are not pushed in the keyword list.
12.7.4.
BIN MANAGEMENT
Not possible for a timecode restripe of nearline files. IPDirector does not support the fact that a file can be overwritten from Windows. For example, if a video file is overwritten by another one with the same name from the windows explorer, some side effects will be seen in the IPDirector (bad TC, bad metadata, …). Don’t define a sub-directory to be managed by the IP Director if a parent directory of this sub-directory is already managed, otherwise the nearline management of this sub-directory will not work properly. A directory cannot be managed by 2 IP Director workgroups in master mode at the same time. Only one master nearline is supported, the other nearlines must be in slave mode. If the user wants to copy files to an XFile drive, it's much faster to do it from the “media files” view because it does a windows copy rather than a file re-wrap.
12.7.3.
OLDER LIMITATIONS
Appearance/disappearance of clip elements is not considered as an update of a clip bin rules are not run when adding/deleting a clip element to a clip. Maximum 20 bin rules at a time on an IPDirector installation. Bin rules defined on playlist and timeline objects will be lost from version 5.x to 6.0. Bin rules defined on clips will be kept.

XDCAM BROWSING
GANGED CHANNELS
Synchronized channels: boundaries side effects not managed. If clip or train boundaries are not equal on the different synced players, this will lead to desynchronise if one boundary is reached on one of the players. Sometimes, it is possible to de-synchronize the channels (possibly using the jog wheel on the shuttle pro). It this happens, it is very easy to re-sync the channels hitting the “pause” button on the shuttle pro.

RESTART PROCEDURE OF YOUR SETUP
In case the system (IPDirector and servers) are shutdown, the IPDirector system must be restarted first, then the servers. If this order is not followed, the playlist elements might appear as “offline” in the playlist even if they are online. Restart the master synchroDB service if this should happen to solve the problem

14. HARDWARE 14.1.

14.3.
XL2 LO-RES SERVER
XL2 servers are not supported anymore since IPDirector 6.40. Hi-lo workflows should be envisaged with lo-res files stored on the supported nearline storages or using the XT3 lores proxy.
14.4.
MOXA BOARDS
The MOXA RS422 cards are NOT supported with IPD 6.
14.5.
NEW AVH DRIVER & FIRMWARE !!!
Since version 5.99.XX, IPDirector has a new AVH Video driver (v 1.3.1.0) and a new AVH Video Firmware to manage 16 audio tracks for elements. This driver and firmware are compatible with older releases. So if, for whatever reason, you need to downgrade your IPDirector software, you don’t need to reinstall the old AVH Video driver and firmware (provided with older IPDirector versions). The installation of the driver and firmware is done automatically with the package deployment. The AVH Video should reset after installation. If unfortunately the AVH Video board seemed not to respond properly after the upgrade, please turn off and unplug the station for 10 seconds before restarting. Since version 5.99.XX, IPDirector has a new AVH RS422 driver (USB Serial Converter v 2.8.14.0). This driver is compatible with older releases. So if, for whatever reason, you need to downgrade your IPDirector software, you don’t need to reinstall the old AVH RS422 driver (provided with older IPDirector versions). The installation of the driver is done automatically with the package deployment. On IP-Drive and API stations, the installation window of the driver may not finish properly. Just close the window if that happens.
14.6.
USE OF IP DRIVE
IPDirector can be used to browse nearline footage including removable hard drives connected to a workstation (XFile, XStore, …). When using external drives, be sure only one access to these drives are made at one time otherwise the bandwidth performances will be very poor (i.e recording and browsing on such drives at the same time, or browsing and restoring at the same time).
14.7.
MULTICAM CONFIGURATION
IPDirector now connects to the EVS Server’s MTPC board (PC LAN) to access to the multicam configuration web tool. This network card must be connected and correctly configured in order to access to the multicam configuration from IPDirector.

It is largely advised to check the multicam channel configuration after upgrade, especially because the serial link redundancy is lost in spotbox configuration lines. A second port must be assigned to EVS IPDP protocol to ensure the redundancy.
14.8.
SUPPORTED STORAGES
The following storages are officially supported as Nearline with IP Director 6: EVS (all storages) Omneon MediaGrid Isilon X-Series Refer to the application note Application_Note_Nearline_config_6.60.pdf for more information.
14.9.
JUMBO FRAMES
Warning: Since IP Director version 6.2 it will not be allowed anymore to have a mixed configuration with workstations configured in jumbo frame and others configured in non jumbo frame. Such a configuration will not work in IPDirector 6.2 or above. If in your setup you have IP Director or IP Browse workstations which cannot be connected in jumbo frame, all your setup should be configured in non jumbo frame including the ones which need to access the XT series servers via the gigE connection (typically to browse XT content from the software player). For an IPDirector/IP Browse configured in non-jumbo frame : In lo-res browsing, when accessing an XL server or LowRes Files: No difference will be encountered with just a few workstations browsing the same XL A little lag will be encountered with more than 10 workstations browsing the same XL A visible lag (2X less reactivity) will be encountered with more than 20 workstations browsing the same XL In hi-res browsing, when accessing an XT series server : No difference will be encountered with just 1 workstations browsing the same XT A little lag will be encountered when 2 workstations are browsing the same XT A visible lag (with freeze) will be encountered with more than 2 workstations browsing the same XL XT Access workstations still need to be connected to the server in jumbo frames in order to have the best performances when backing up/restoring.
14.10.
IMAGE QUALITY IN DUAL SCREEN ON IPD 1U
Warning: We have detected that image quality on the VGA monitor can be poor when using the IPD 1U in Dual Screen with two Hi resolution monitors, such as full HD monitors for example. If you need to use IPD in dual screen mode with two monitors in full HD, it is better to choose IPD 3U hardware, which has an additional graphics card with a DVI-I and a display port output.
