Release Notes October 2012 Surveyor HD Firmware Version 6.8.82 General Description Vicon is releasing Surveyor HD firmware version 6.8 (build 82) for Vicon’s family of PTZ domes. This updated version fixes problems reported from the field and testing, and improves overall system performance and stability. This version also includes features as well as supporting the new Surveyor HD 1080P camera. A new operation manual is also available online. Vicon Production The new version of Surveyor HD firmware is now in production and will be installed on any system going forward. The firmware for existing users will be made publicly available online. Field Installation The installation of Surveyor HD firmware 6.8.82 on existing Surveyor HD domes is expected to provide a solution to the list of issues detailed below. Users who wish to update their existing systems may download the new installation from the Vicon website (Support - Technical Support - Software Downloads). Surveyor HD units that are running an earlier build of firmware (0.4.4.12) must perform the upgrade as a two-step process and backup the camera settings prior to beginning the upgrade process. Upgrade instructions are available online. Users may choose to run with the current version if they feel comfortable with it after reading the solved issues list and establishing there are no advantages in this version. Written by Frank Jacovino Vicon Release Notes New Features Release of the Surveyor HD 1080P Dome Surveyor HD now supports high-profile H.264 and M-JPEG compression resolutions up to 1080P (1920 x 1080) with the addition of a camera option with 20X optical zoom and 1080P resolution. The 1080P model is compatible with all Surveyor accessories, Housings and mounting options. Official support for ONVIF The Surveyor HD conforms to the ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) specification, providing interoperability between network video products from different manufacturers. The Surveyor HD is listed on the ONVIF web site as conformant product, Profile S (tested with ONVIF tool version 11.12) Support for NTCIP The National Transportation Communications for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Protocol (NTCIP) is a family of standards to allow electronic traffic control equipment from different manufacturers to operate with each other as a system. The Surveyor HD adheres to these standards. Integrated Media Converter Options The Surveyor HD can be ordered with optional media converters that transmit the camera’s IP signal over fiber or coaxial cable. This allows not only usage of existing infrastructure but also extending the distance or standard Ethernet devices over CAT5. Rectangular Privacy Masks A total of 80 3D rectangular programmable privacy masks are available. The privacy masks will adjust in size and location dependent upon the pan, tilt and zoom of the camera. Only ten privacy masks can be located in the field of view at any one time. 2 Written by Frank Jacovino Vicon Release Notes Solved Issues Time synchronization issues Problems with recording time stamp drifts when operating with ViconNet VMS was corrected. When the camera is connected to ViconNet the unit is synchronized with ViconNet time. Problems with camera rebooting The camera sometimes rebooted when disconnected form a workstation, NVR or nucleus. Known Issues MJPEG compression is only available when in ONVIF mode When the Surveyor HD is connected to ViconNet, MJPEG compression is not available, but may be selected form the camera web browser. If selected, no video will be displayed in the live screen. Note this limits the ability to use these cameras in on a KRX-3 decoder (can only decode JPEG)m or any other system required a JPEG stream. Video Motion Detection (VMD) is not currently available VMD is not currently available with the Surveyor HD. This will be enabled in a future release. SSM Multicast is not currently working The Surveyor HD does not send the SSM join group IGMP message. Standard ASM multicast works. ViconNet does not update correctly when viewing 1080P video full screen There are noticeable skips in the video when the camera is panning and the image is full screen. A hot fix exists for ViconNet which will improve the image quality. The hot fix can be found on the Vicon web site along with detailed release notes. Video/Time Synchronization Time synchronization is performed every 2 seconds. Therefore, when comparing two cameras looking at the same scene, there may be as much as a 4 second time difference between the two cameras. Backup/Restore function from the Web Browser The Surveyor HD Web Browser backup/restore function ONLY operates on the camera specific settings and NOT on any of the ViconNet related settings (those settings set by the VMS). Therefore the camera backup/restore should be performed form the VMS as well. Genetec Omnicast No Video The Surveyor HD is capable of working with Genetec’s Omnicast VMS as an ONVIF device. The unit can be discovered, display MJPEG video, and perform PTZ movements from Omnicast. Currently Omnicast cannot display or record the H-264 stream form the Surveyor HD. This will be corrected in a future release. Availability The Surveyor HD 6.8.82 firmware has been released for production. 3 Written by Frank Jacovino
