BIN DAY REMINDERS Waste bins are serviced weekly. Recycling bins (yellow lid) and garden waste bins (lime lid) are serviced fortnightly on alternate weeks. Check your waste collection calendar, or search your address on Council’s website www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au, for your bin days.
Recycling week
Garden waste week
Place your bins at the kerbside by 6am on your collection day. Return bins inside your property by 6pm.
Your bin will not be emptied if it is overflowing, too full or contaminated. Make sure the lid can close. If it is too heavy to wheel to the kerbside, it’s probably too heavy for the truck arm to lift.
Correct bin placement – Place your bins out with the wheels facing away from the road. – Leave 500mm between bins and other objects so the bin can be emptied easily. – Please speak to Council's Customer Service for advice if you are unsure where to place your bins. Our fleet of waste vehicles is fitted with GPS tracking and cameras. This technology is used to monitor bin servicing, driver behaviour, and any incidents that occur during collection. Council uses this information to provide safe, reliable and efficient waste collection services for the Sunshine Coast.
Leave space between bins and other objects (parked cars, trees, light poles, letter boxes, etc.)

One service at these sites is to recover, collect and sell reusable and recyclable items to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill. Charges apply to dispose of some material at resource recovery centres and transfer stations. For a full list of accepted materials, charges and opening hours for each facility, visit Council’s website at www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au
HINT! Sort your load to save time, money and the environment. When you arrive at a resource recovery centre, you drive through a sorting area where items that can be recycled, resold, repaired or restored may be separated from your load. It’s free to drop off this material.

Visit www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au for a full list of what is accepted and what is not. Make sure you remove all personal data from your computer before you drop it off. In its first year, our electronic waste recycling program saved over 1001 tonnes of e-waste from ending up in landfill. * All information and advice provided in this guide is correct at the time of publication (June 2014)

DOING THE RIGHT THING Doing the right thing – keeping the Sunshine Coast clean The Sunshine Coast is a beautiful place to live. It’s easy to keep it clean by: • Using the litter bins provided in our public places for general litter only • Making sure your bin lid is closed when it's placed out on service day • Carrying a bag in your car for waste • Picking up after your dog – bag and bin your dog waste • Taking bulk waste to a resource recovery centre or transfer station • Report damaged and overflowing bins to Council's Customer Service
HINT! You can be issued with a penalty notice for throwing rubbish from your car, dropping cigarette butts in the sand, dumping rubbish on a roadside and other 'littering' or 'dumping' activity. Dispose of it correctly and help keep the Sunshine Coast clean. If you see others littering or dumping rubbish illegally, you can make a report to Council's Customer Service. Council also uses cameras in its surveillance of illegal dumping activities.
Other recycling opportunities Large household items For large household items that can be reused, please contact your local charity group or take them to the Council’s resource recovery facility. The Yellow Pages contains a listing for waste removal services which are available from your home.
Small batteries Battery World and Aldi provide a free recycling service for small batteries.
Printer cartridges, phones Planet Ark has information relating to recycling of cartridges, phones and other items on their Recycling Near You page – www.recyclingnearyou.com.au
drumMuster Council has collection areas at some of the rural resource recovery rentres as part of the national programme for collection and recycling of cleaned eligible non-returnable chemical containers. www.drummuster.com.au Check out our A to Z Guide on the next page if you aren't sure what to do with a recyclable or waste product. 13
