Removing the crankshaft General General Applies to 16 litre engines with PDE and cylinder block generation 1. Work description The crankshaft must be removed while the engine is suspended in the engine stand. Remove the parts in the order below: 1. Oil sump. 2. Flywheel. 3. Flywheel housing. 4. Oil strainer and suction pipe. 5. Poly-V-belts. 6. Fan ring and fan. 7. Cylinder heads. 8. Pulleys in front of the crankshaft. 9. Front cover. 10. Torsion damper with spacing sleeve. 11. Turn the crankshaft so that the piston to be removed is at top dead centre, TDC. To be able to rotate the crankshaft, the crankshaft gear must be secured with two flywheel screws and two 50 mm spacers. 14. Turn the engine upside down. 15. Remove the crankshaft gear. 16. Remove the main bearing caps. 17. Remove the upper and lower thrust washers. 1 2 D12 OC12 DC 16 330 520 D11 D9 1.
