DVA Digital Vertical Array DVA. The Digital Vertical Array. Line array technology has revolutionized sound reinforcement, particularly for large venues and events. Arraying several speaker cabinets vertically is a far more effective method of delivering and directing sound. Line array‘s signal levels do not drop off as steeply with increasing distance as is the case with conventional systems. What‘s more, their patterns of throw are very wide despite the systems‘ lean configurations. Until recently this technology saw limited use mainly in large, elaborate, and costly projects and installations. But with arrival of DVA, true line array technology is now available for a wide range of portable and permanent sound reinforcement applications. Factoring all the many different parameters and users‘ needs into the design equation, the dBTechnologies team of engineers developed a line array system that is easy to configure, exceedingly light, and tremendously versatile. What‘s more, the managed to take all these vital criteria into account without imposing limits on curving capacity and the number of arrayed components. Called DVA, this system makes the most of line array technology‘s considerable audio benefits. Leveraging state-of-the-art technologies, materials, and many years experience developing powered speaker systems, dBTechnologies has turned up a line array series that raises the performance bar for handling, versatility, and return on investment. dBTechnologies has a competitive edge. Our engineers‘ deep insight into power electronics, DSP programming, acoustics, mechanics, materials, and manufacturing practices enables us to independently develop innovative solutions in each of these areas. Such comprehensive R&D proficiency puts us in a unique position: We are able to transform inspired ideas into premium-quality products that deliver outstanding performance at an unrivalled pricepoint. The DVA series stands as a shining example of this all-around ability. Nowhere are the benefits of integrated amps, active crossovers, and processor-driven control more apparent than in DVA three-way line array units. • Fully powered units, freely scalable to setups of any size • None of the impedance and amp channel availability concerns associated with passive models • Lossless signal path with no need for speaker cables • Extremely tough yet remarkably light enclosures • Digital controller (DSP) onboard for utmost operating safety

RDnet for networked remote surveillance and control Factory-equipped with an RDnet port, the DVA T12 is ready for integration into complex, remotely controlled and monitored DVA sound reinforcement systems. RJ45 inputs and outputs connect it to the RDnet hub. The RDnet link enables the sound tech to adjust presets, levels, and all other key parameters conveniently at the FOH location. The tech‘s PC receives data concerning temperature, limiter status, levels, and all further operating parameters in real time. The RDnet HUB interfaces with the PC via LAN, WLAN, or USB. All the necessary adjustments for the individual DVA T12 modules may be made off-line when planning the sound reinforcement system. The stored program can be transmitted if the system is already installed on site. Often a large PA system must be adapted to meet different needs during an event. Some areas may no longer require coverage, or a different type of performance necessitates a different setup. This system can be adapted any time within seconds via RDnet. The DVA T12‘s low-end complement is the equally network-ready DVA S30 subwoofer. It sports two 18“ woofers, a bass reflex horn, and a 3kW power amp. To learn more about it, see the chapter entitled Active Subwoofer. • Management and surveillance from the FOH location • Off-line configuration
RDnet lets you: • Monitor levels, limiters, and temperatures • Select system presets • Configure setups off-line • Mute units • Group modules • Test individual components • Automatically address system components • Tap into LAN and USB interfaces • Extend the network via wireless LAN access point

DVA T12 Top performance paired with total control digipro® digital power amps Compact yet remarkably powerful The DVA T12 sports three Class-D digipro® power amps, one for each signal path. They deliver 710W to the 12“ woofer and 350W each to the two 6.5“ midrange woofers and three 1“ drivers. Embodying the latest advance in digital high-performance amps, the technology behind digipro® pairs maximum power with minimum weight and size. The amps‘ remarkable power translates to massive SPL and unprecedented dynamic response and transparency, supported by with muscular low-end performance even in compact systems • 1410 W Class-D power amps • High performance and transparency with true dynamic response
Effortless setup, configured at the touch of a button The DVA T12‘s DSP offers eight system presets that adapt the unit to its assigned task in the array. They tweak the gain structure and EQ for the near-field/ midfield and far-field positions to compensate for high frequencies absorbed by air, and for low/ midrange frequency coupling as the array length increases. No further manual adjustments are necessary. All presets may be selected using the rearmounted rotary encoder or downloaded from a PC using RDnet software. • Simplest system configuration • Very fast setup
High-performance DSP for stellar dynamics and authenticity The DVA T12‘s signal processor and AD/DA converter were engineered to achieve transcendent sound quality with great dynamic range and fidelity. Keeping it safe with switched-mode power supplies featuring PFC The DVA T12‘s power-plant is an independent network equipped with the latest IT technology to achieve maximum safety, efficiency, and performance. A secondary power supply feeds five microcontrollers and the DSP, and serves to ramp up check routines and the main power supply. A smart IPOS™ (Intelligent Power-On Sequence) circuit controls the sequence in which the main power supplies of all DVA T12 units within an array ramp up. It staggers the timing ever so slightly to keep the overall system‘s inrush current low. The main 1,500W SMPS power the amps. Their PFC (power factor correction) capability enables the system to run on mains voltages from 90V and 265V without any manual adjustments. This ensures peak performance even under adverse conditions, for instance at gigs where lengthy power feeds cause voltages to drop. This is yet another area in which digipro® outperforms conventional amps. With more than 90% yield, it is so very efficient that it does not require fans, making it an even safer and totally maintenance-free amp. • Wide-range 90V - 240V SMPS • IPOS™ circuit for low inrush current
Integrated LDN for utmost reliability Reliability is a top priority in modern PA systems. This is why the DVA T12 comes with a fast and efficient local data network (LDN) comprising a main CPU and four ancillary CPUs. Each microprocessor manages its assigned component, for example, the HF amp, processing temperature, voltage, current, impedance, input, output, and other data independently and continuously. The main CPU captures and evaluates the ancillary CPUs‘ data streams in real time, detecting problems such as an internal defect in a power amp channel or speaker. Only the affected channel is muted to prevent noise. Temperature is monitored constantly. The power amp does not shut down if the temperature rises above the defined limit. Instead, the input level is attenuated in small temperature-contingent increments to allow the amp to cool down. The main CPU tracks the operating status, recording this data in a log file that may be exported via the USB port on the rear panel. If the RDnet is up and running, the T12 even sends an error report to the PC, which speeds up and simplifies considerably the task of servicing the module. • Real-time operating status monitoring • Log file for status reports

DVA T12 Components of consummate quality Components of consummate quality The global group of dBTechnologies companies develops and manufactures individual speaker components autonomously, and often specifically for the given application. We do not subscribe to the practice of equalizing and optimizing speakers with elaborate technology to bring them up to our standards. Instead, it has been our long-standing policy to build from the bottom up components with specs tailored to deliver the best audio performance for the application. Take, for example, the DVA series: We teamed up with our eminent affiliate RCF® to develop speaker components unrivalled in this class. Made of highestquality materials such as Mylar and titanium and featuring neodymium magnets, DVA series components deliver extraordinary performance, high SPL, and lowest distortion. And they‘re surprisingly light to boot.
Accurate and awesomely efficient midrange response The DVA T12‘s two 6.5“ neodymium woofers are placed close together to maximize coherent coupling and response for those critical midrange frequencies. The speaker resides in a sealed basket to optimize the displacement volume. This makes the woofer even more responsive. With a high BL factor, it reacts far faster to transients and renders each attack with awesome accuracy. Both 6.5“ woofers are equipped with an optimized phase plug and feed into a frontloaded horn to achieve a uniform coverage pattern. • Three 1“ neodymium HF drivers • Extended range
High-definition top end The 1“ neodymium HF drivers feature 1.5“ Mylar diaphragms. Exceptionally light and responsive, they deliver richly detailed signals with remarkably linear frequency response. Specially developed for use in line arrays, these ultra compact drivers may be deployed in very close proximity to one another. This is essential to minimize interference in such arrays. The DVA T12 is loaded with three HF drivers tuned specifically for the custom-designed array horn. This combination maximizes the coupling of the drivers‘ outputs and extends the range of the HF signal. • Three 1“ neodymium HF drivers • Extended range

Tough, light hybrid polypropylene enclosure The DVA T12‘s housing marks a milestone in the development and manufacture of polypropylene enclosures. Its surface is immune to knocks and scratches, and fully resistant to water and moisture. A sophisticated internal bracing system reinforces the housing and minimizes resonance. The DVA T12 also features an aluminum endoskeleton that connects components and further reinforces the housing. The cabinet‘s elaborate, heavy-duty construction makes it a rugged and road-ready unit that lives up to the highest standards for weather-proofing. A rain cover integrated into the rear panel protects circuitry and connections so this powered unit may be deployed in virtually all conditions. • Aluminum-reinforced polypropylene housing • Light yet exceedingly durable
Consistent coverage pattern The DVA T12 features constant directivity horns, HF drivers, and midrange woofers optimized to deliver a uniform 100°-by-10° coverage pattern. The DVA makes the most of two acoustical effects to help distribute SPL evenly. One is the vector addition of individual horns‘ output, with the other being cylindrical wave formation. The coverage pattern may be adapted to suit the sound reinforcement application by varying the length of the array and adjusting the splay between individual components. • Uniform 100°-by-10° coverage pattern • Evenly distributed SPL
Extended low-end performance A 12“ neodymium woofer in a band-pass housing covers the low frequency range. Remarkably powerful, it packs an assertive punch that reaches down to 60 Hz to enable fullrange applications. The 12“ woofer is slanted inside the housing, lending the cabinet a lean, unobtrusive look. • 12“ neodymium woofer • Fullrange capability from 60Hz up

DVA Handling, stacking, and flying the T12 Rigging hardware built in The DVA T12 features built-in precision rigging hardware with stainless steel quick-release pins so that no external hardware is required. The splay between enclosures may be adjusted in 1.5° and 2° increments to configure the array and align the system‘s coverage pattern.
An easier way to fly With each unit weighing just 29.9 kg, the system is easily and quickly set up. The curvature is adjustable from 0° to 10° in 1.5° and 2° steps. A line array system delivers its best performance when flown, so flying the rig is always the first choice. The DRK-20 harness accommodates up to 20 flown DVA T12 modules. It is equipped with precision inclination-adjusting rails enabling the stack to be flown from a single pick-point. The DAS-4 adapter attaches to the bottom cabinet and secures the rig to the truss with half-couplers and a pipe. We recommend using this adapter to prevent the stack from twisting and swinging. • Lightweight solution for single-point loads • Precision alignment
The combination of DVA S10 subwoofers and DVA T12 mid-/high-range units packs plenty of power, punch, and range to render signals across the full frequency spectrum. This setup is the preferred option in venues where bass bins cannot be set on the floor, or where optimum coverage for bleachers or balconies is desired. You can fly bass bins to lengthen the array and extend the near-field, achieve even better acoustical coupling, and maximize the various signal paths‘ time alignment. • Extendable with flown bass bins
Ground stacks
Compatible with DVA T4 units
DRK-10 and DRK 20 harnesses can also serve to stack cabinets on the ground when rigging points are unavailable or the ceiling is too low. A special bracket adjusts the inclination down to 7.5°. The DRK-10/20 fits perfectly on an upright DVA S30 subwoofer. Equipped with two receptacles for quick-release pins, it is readily attached without tools.
DVA T12 and DVA T4 series housings and rigging hardware are compatible. This means DVA T4 units may be flown right below a T12 array for use as down-fills in large PA systems.
The DVA S30 subwoofer sports two 18“ speakers, a bass reflex horn, a 3000W power amp, and an internal DSP. (To learn more about it, see the chapter entitled Active Subwoofer).
For an added acoustical benefit, both systems‘ driver sections are in line so that they generate phase-correct high-frequency additions. • Compatible DVA T4 can serve as down-fill extension in large systems
• Line array benefits in ground-stacked configurations
T4 downfill with in phase horn allignment

Transport
The PFC switched-mode power supply allows up to four DVA T12 units to be connected to one phase. When connecting large systems (up to 12 units), we recommend splitting up the power feed using a 16A CEKON adapter, tapped and spliced to feed three weatherproofed PowerCon connectors. The cable measures 15 m.
The heavy-duty transport and storage case accommodates three DVA T12 modules including cables and one rigging harness. All angles and presets may be adjusted with the units remaining in the case.
DVA T4 – 3-Way Active Line Array Module 3-Way Active Line Array Module A three-way active line array system, the DVA T4 has set new standards in the sound reinforcement industry since its 2007 market launch. Better yet, it has brought the benefits of real line array technology to a much wider range of users. More than 15,000 DVA T4 modules have shipped as of February 2011. Equipped with topnotch features and engineered for maximum versatility, the DVA T4 delivers premium performance and ensures excellent return on investment. • 8 modules (2 m array) connected to one 16A phase place just 125 kg load on the pick-point • Fully powered units, freely scalable to setups of any size • Lossless signal path with no need for speaker cables • None of the impedance and amp channel availability concerns associated with passive models • Sequentially configurable array segments • Digital controller (DSP) onboard for utmost operating safety

Advanced amplification. Innovative digital amps, analog sound
PFC-Switchmode supply
The DVA T4 is equipped with unique digital power amps that provide a total of 420W RMS. Driven by Class-T™ technology, their resolution is several-fold that of conventional digital amps. They render signals very accurately with this high-definition audio capability. Sonic images are almost impossible to distinguish from those of analog sources, even in the HF range. The amps are equipped with high-quality delta-sigma converters.
The DVA T4 has an integrated active PFC-Switchmode supply. It is very lightweight and has an effi ciency of almost 90%, which enables up to 8 DVA T4 to be driven safely on only one 230V/16A wire.
Another advantage of these state-of-the-art digital amps is their remarkable efficiency, which is far greater than 90 percent. Without fans built in to cool the amps, they run quieter and weigh less. This audiophile performance comes in a very petite package: One T4 unit weights just 13.2 kg. This makes it a treat to handle and allows it to be flown from pick-points with less load-bearing capacity.
• Wide-range 90V - 240V switched-mode power supply
The supply works on voltages from 85-260V, so it will accept all different mains worldwide, even under the worse conditions.
• Highly efficient digital power amp • Very low weight
Sweeping dynamic range
Integrated DSP for utmost reliability
The DVA T4‘s digital power amp features DPP™ (Digital Power Processing) technology and a multiband compressor/ limiter with separate response curves for each signal path. Its dynamic range is exceptionally wide.
Alongside the multiband compressor/ limiter, the T4‘s analog input section also sports an analog limiter to maximize signal conditioning and operating reliability.
For example, headroom in the middle and high-frequency bands ranges up to 22dB. This innovative circuitry not only maximizes dynamic response, it also ensures signals are rendered accurately and uniformly even at threshold levels.
The integrated DSP not only performs audio tasks, it also monitors the entire power amp. If, for example, it detects an internal defect in a power amp channel, only this channel is muted to prevent noise.
Easy Setup
The DSP also monitors continuously the power amp‘s temperature. If the temperature rises above the defined limit, the power amp does not shut down. Instead, the input level is gradually attenuated in temperature-contingent increments.
The DVA T4‘s DSP is equipped with various system presets that configure the unit for its assigned task in the array. They adjust the gain structure and EQ to the near-field/ midfield and farfield positions to compensate for high frequencies absorbed by air and for low/ midrange frequency coupling as the array length increases so that further manual adjustments are necessary.

DVA Components of consummate quality Components of consummate quality We teamed up with our eminent affiliate RCF® to develop speaker components unrivalled in this class. Made of highest-quality materials such as Mylar and titanium and sporting neodymium magnets, the DVA T4 delivers extraordinary performance, high SPL, and lowest distortion - all in a package that weighs just 13.8 kg.
Constant Directivity The DVA T4 Top is equipped with a constant directivity horn for the High and Mid section and offers a nominal coverage angle of 100°x15°. The CD-Horn provides high flexibility and a good natured attitude if for instance the Array is not aligned correctly. The DVA uses apart from the formation of cylindrical waves (very much depending on the number of T4 elements) the vector summing of the individual horns. This means that with growing distance to the source (if set up correctly) the listener perceives more and more vector sums of the single elements. However it has to be considered, that the fewer elements are used to spread the sound to a specific area, the stronger must be the curving of them. That’s how the effect of optimised SPL distribution is managed.
State-of-the-Art Drivers The build in 1”Neodymium- Drivers are equipped with a 1.4” Mylar- Membrane which allow a very quick response and provide a linear frequency range at a surprisingly low weight. This driver was specially designed for the use with Line-Arrays. Its compact measurements allow very close proximity which is a main factor for minimum interference.
Reliability The 8“ Neodymium-Woofer is equipped with a high power 2.5“ voice coil to provide superior sound pressure level in a very compact size.
High Efficiency The 6.5“ Neodymium-Midrange speaker has a sealed basket to provide an optimized volume capacity including high sensitivity and superb sound reproduction. It also has a horn exit including phase plug for defined and linear sound emission.
DVA Handling, stacking, and flying the DVA T4 Handling, stacking, and flying the DVA T4 The DVA T4 Line-Array element has a sensational weight of only 13,2kg. The obvious advantage for handling and transport also makes flying possible where under normal circumstances the trussing is not strong enough to support also flying of the audio devices - an Array of six T4 Tops therefore weighs less than 120 kg.
Transport For an easy transport of 3-4 DVA T4 elements, the DTF-4 dolly is optionally available. In this case, the Array is directly fixed by the flypins onto the dolly. A separate fixture for the flybar is integrated. The DWK-4 is fitted with four Bluewheels and can be equipped either with a protection cover or, after dismantling the wheels, mounted onto the bottom of a flight case. This frame can also be used for groundstacking for 1 to 4 DVA modules, for example for upward sound distribution to the stand of a football stadium or as a nearfill at front stage.
Groundstacking In case there are no possibilities to fly the system or the ceiling of the venue is not high enough, the DRK-10 can be used for groundstacking too. A special bracket provides an inclination up to 7.5°. The DRK-10 fits exactly onto the surface of an upright positioned DVA S20 subwoofer and can be mounted by two M10 threads on top of the sub.
The combination of a DVA S10 subwoofer and a DSA-4 pole mount adaptor holding up to three DVA T4 mid-/high-range units is a great solution for smaller applications and for delay zone sound reinforcement. The continuously adjustable DSA-4 adaptor lets you aim the mid-/high-range units.
Flying the cabinets
DRP Rain Cover
The DVA T4 comes with precisely engineered flying hardware. The hardware in combination with the extremely low weight of a T4 top allows easy and fast setup of the whole system. The curving can be adjusted in steps of 2.5° within a range of 0° and 15°. For an optimum of performance the system should be principally flown. The DRK-10 flying frame holds up to 16 T4. For professional handling the frame is well balanced and the angle of inclination can be corrected with the upper rear flying rails. The DAS-4 adapter attaches to the bottom cabinet and secures the rig to the truss with half-couplers and a pipe. We recommend using this adapter to prevent the stack from twisting and swinging The combination of DVA S10 subwoofers and DVA T4 mid-/high-range units in a flown array packs a mighty fullrange punch with serious SPL. This setup is the preferred configuration in venues where you are unable to place bass bins on the floor or where you wish to cover bleachers or balconies.
Accessories Zubehör DVA Setup with EASE Focus EASE Focus makes confi guring a DVA system so much easier because this software simulates the system in the virtual realm. Flown arrays with S10 subwoofers or stacked arrays with S10 and S20 bins are readily visualized. It can depict several audience target zones at the same time to map out more intricate venues comprising different coverage areas such as arenas, bleachers, and balconies. Color 2D graphics provide an easily understood view of throw patterns and sound pressure levels so you can confi gure the array for the best possible results. It also offers you easy access to key rigging parameters such as the height of the rigging frame, the choice of pick points, the array’s curvature, total weight, and system preset selections.
DSA-4 Pole Mount Adaptor The DSA-4 Pole Mount Adaptor holds up to three DVA T4 modules on single pole. A set screw adjusts the tilt angle smoothly rather than in stepped increments, enabling ultra-precise alignment. A scale on the side of the adaptor indicates the selected angle. Paired with an S10 subwoofer, this adaptor makes it so easy to set up three-way systems for smaller applications.
DRP Rain protection The optional DRP rain protection can be easily clipped onto the backpanel of the T4 units to protect the amplifier and connectors against wetness.
Wall mount DWB-3 The DWB-3 wall mount is designed specifi cally to attach cabinets to walls for fi xed installation. It accommodates up to three DVA T4 mid-/highrange units.
Rigging-Tower For Arrays of a maximum of 8DVA T4 tops, dBTechnologies offers with the DRL-45 an optional, compact and cost effective rigging tower. The tower takes up to 300 kg and offers a maximum height of 4.50 m. A flight case for the DRL-45 is included.
DVA. Active Subwoofers
dBTechnologies. The Subwoofer Company High-performance bass woofers
Easy to set up
DVA bass bins are loaded with state-of-the-art, high-performance subwoofers. Equipped with light neodymium magnets and voice coils with diameters up to 4“, these units‘ load handling capacity is extremely high, and their transient response is remarkably faithful.
The subwoofers sport an integrated active X-over (stereo S08 and S09) with two crossover frequencies and a phase inversion switch. Optionally available for S10 and S20 models, the SDD (Subwoofer Digital Delay) module delays the bass signal. This serves to align the times of a flown T4 array, for example, when you want place subwoofers in front of the stage and fly the array flush with the stage to provide ground support.
The dual ventilation system minimizes heat buildup and power compression while helping to maximize loading handling capacity and reliability. The woofers feature a fiberglass-reinforced diaphragm, an exceedingly robust triple-roll surround, and a geometrically optimized cone. All this culminates in peak-to-peak excursion capabilities ranging up to 48 mm.
Three recessed knobs set the delay time precisely to within 0.01 ms. The SDD module has a bypass switch to defeat the delay function, and an XLR output that serves to connect further subwoofers to the delay.

State-of-the-art digipro® power amp technology for peak power and performance with convection cooling Switched-mode power supplies with PFC for highest efficiency and reliability Integrated controllers enabling fast setup and affording excellent system protection
DVX Digital 2-Way Active Speakers PWM Amp Technology Setting new reference standards for digital high-performance amps, digipro® technology packs a great deal performance into a remarkably light package with a small footprint. These efficient amps do not require fans because they generate little heat. Small and light yet very powerful, they can drive even compact systems to deliver high performance, faithful dynamic response unprecedented in its true-to-nature accuracy, and extremely muscular low end. All DVX Series models feature highly efficient switched-mode power supplies with power factor correction. This PFC ensures the devices get the juice they need to perform at their peak even under challenging conditions, for example, when dealing with low voltage supplies at live events.
Power Densitiy digipro® Class-D power amp technology packs huge performance and operating efficiency into a lightweight solution that leaves a very small footprint. With its remarkable 1:1 power-output-to-weight ratio, this technology brings highest performance capability to compact speaker systems. What’s more, it is also phenomenally easy to handle. digipro® - the high-End Powerpack.
Audiophile performance Power amps need a great deal of headroom to render natural audio events as authentically as possible. It takes a high-voltage power supply to provide this kind of headroom. digipro® delivers exceedingly high performance ranging up to 1000W/ RMS, providing the dynamic range required for faithful, true-to-nature reproduction of every input signal. This power, paired with an ultra fast attack and truly realistic transient response, yields impressive audio performance that rivals that of very elaborate and expensive tube circuits. With a high pulse frequency of 500 KHz, this technology is able to deliver high-definition, high-fidelity audio signals with richly detailed yet natural-sounding top end.
Full Class-D - Maximum Efficiency In contrast to many other so-called “digital” power amps that merely run on a clocked switched-mode power supply, digipro® is a fullfledged Class-Dpoweramp that operates on the principle of pulse width modulation (PWM). This technology is tremendously efficient with more than 90% yield. Componentsremain very cool because so little energy is lost in the form of heat. No fansare necessary. What’s more, components last longer and operate more reliably courtesy of the reduced thermal load.
Maximum Performance digipro® power amps come with highly advanced, ultra efficient switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) with active power factor correction (PFC). They provide all the juice amps need to deliver peak performance even when mains power quality is poor, for example, when low power feeds at live events cause voltages to dip. This makes SMPS far superior to conventional power supplies. • Operates in the range of 95 V to 265 V • Conditions power when line voltages fluctuate
Power and Intelligence digipro® technology synchronizes power stages and control circuits, creating an intelligent, responsive protection and supervision system. An integrated processor controls the ongoing interaction between the audio signal, switched-mode power supply, and PWM output stages, and processes key information. • digipro® monitors impedance and shuts down in case of short-circuit. • Thermal limiters attenuate performance if the unit runs hot. • Peak and RMS limiters protect speakers.
