What is the Air Filter? The air filter prevents dust from entering the 8820 GranDSLAM chassis (Model 8820-A1-500) or the 8820 Broadband Access Concentrator (Model 8820-A2-500). Install an air filter when the chassis is in a dusty or unfiltered environment. Once the filter is installed, you should inspect the air filter once a year, and replace it when dirty, whenever the fan alarm is active, or when the fan tray is being serviced or replaced. Do not attempt to clean the filter; when dirty, it should be replaced.
CAUTION: A clogged air filter will cause a rise in temperature, which could damage the equipment.

Installing the Replacement Air Filter in the 8820 GranDSLAM Chassis, Model 8820-A1-500 You will need a Phillips screwdriver to remove the fan tray cover plate.
Procedure To install the replacement air filter: 1. Remove the three screws that hold the vent cover plate to the chassis. 2. Pull down on the vent cover plate to remove it from the chassis. 3. Remove the old air filter by sliding it forward out of the filter brackets.

4. Slide the replacement air filter into the filter brackets, until it seats against the foam strip on the backplane.
NOTE: When oriented properly, the arrows on the sides of the filter point up. 5. Replace the vent cover plate and secure it to the chassis with three screws.

Installing the Replacement Air Filter in the 8820 Broadband Access Concentrator (BAC), Model 8820-A2-500 Procedure To install the replacement air filter: 1. Unfasten the three screws on the vent cover plate and remove it. 2. Remove the old air filter by sliding it forwards and down. 3. The air filter mounts at an angle within the chassis. Slide the air filter upwards into the air filter guides, located on the inside of each side wall, until the air filter seats against the foam strip located on the backplane.

NOTE: When oriented properly, the vertical arrows on the front and rear edges of the filter point up. 4. Replace the vent cover plate, ensuring that the plate’s foam strip presses against the front of the filter. 5. Replace the three screws.
