Place the arm over the edge of a clean table and loosen the mounting screws with a 2.5 mm Allen (hex) key. This will avoid stressing the bearings. 3. Hold the 5 mm spanner as shown to prevent the nuts from turning and remove all the cartridge bolts. Keep the nuts and bolts safe- you may need to reuse them. 4. Now carefully remove the tags using a small pair of long nose pliers. Place the arm in a safe place, safest place is back on your LP12! Proceed to next page for packing instructions. Using the colour codes as shown: 1. left hot (+) = white 2. right hot (+) = red 3. left earth (-) = blue 4. right earth (-) = green 4. ...carefully fit the tags to the arm. 5. Line up the cartridge with the cursor line on the headshell. (This is on the Ekos only and helps with the setup but the following alignment gauge will also suffice). Fit the screws and nuts finger tight as alignment still has to be confirmed. Retain the cartridge box in a safe place for future use. How to fit and align your Linn Tonearm and Cartridge 2. Refit the Tonearm to the turntable and tighten at the approximate height. Turn tracking and Bias dial to 0. See point 4 below. WARNING: Turn tracking dial slowly and do not go past 0. 1. Once the cartridge is fitted to the arm, refit the counter weight to the arm by pushing it on to the tail piece bevelled edge first whilst turning the counterweight. TIP: Use a sliver of soap to moisten the tail of the arm tube to make this easier. (A) (B) 3. Remove the stylus guard and un-clip the arm from the rest, then move the counter weight back and forth in small steps until arm floats horizontally, i.e. is balanced or “calibrated”. TAKE CARE AS THE STYLUS GUARD IS OFF!. 4. Clip the arm in the arm rest and add tracking weight by dialling 1.7 on the tracking force dial (A). Dial B is the Bias or ” anti-skate” Dial. Page 9 How to fit and align your Linn Tonearm and Cartridge 5. Place Arm on record and adjust height until horizontal. If arm is too high or too low, place arm back in clip and adjust the arm height. Repeat this procedure until arm is horizontal. Tip: Use reflection on record and adjust until arm-tube is parallel with it’s reflection. 7. Rotate the platter by hand as required to enable placement of stylus on cross-hair (A) so lines are parallel to the cartridge body. Lift the stylus off the protractor while moving the platter. Adjust the Cartridge if necessary forward or back on the headshell ensuring Cartridge remains parallel in the headshell. The outside edge of the headshell (nearest finger lift) will also be parallel so you can use this to line up with protractor. Confirm alignment at point B. 6. Place alignment protractor on the record. 8. Once you are satisfied that the cartridge is aligned remove the arm from your turntable and tighten cartridge screws in position until Allen (hex) key starts to bend. Use spanner to hold the nuts in place and stop them turning . Refit arm and make final check of alignment (see point 5). When finished place arm in arm clip. How to fit and align your Linn Tonearm and Cartridge 9.Tighten the arm in place- use the 4mm Allen (hex) key as shown to avoid overtigtning.WARNING: Overtightning this height locking screw will damage the arm bearings. 10. Refit the arm plug as shown. Tighten securing grub screw but do not over-tighten. 11. Check that the cable does not touch ANYTHING and is clear of the base. 12. Remove outer platter. Refit the turntable base and reinstall the turntable in its playing location. Connect the audio and power leads. Refit the belt and outer platter. Happy listening! Page 11 Alignment Protractor: 1.
