Jan 12, 2015 REPLACING THE MASSAGE MECHANISM WholeBody® 5.1 It is imperative that Human Touch® products are repaired in a manner that ensures product safety and regulatory compliance and that is fully consistent with the practices used during the manufacturing process. Therefore, Human Touch requires that all product repairs are performed using only factory-new parts and in accordance with these repair instructions. Failure to adhere to these instructions voids the product warranty and releases Human Touch from all liability for injury or product damage resulting from the repair. SERVICE LEVEL: 3 Tools Required: Phillips-head screwdriver, wire cutter, new zip ties NOTE: SAVE ALL REMOVED PARTS FOR USE DURING REASSEMBLY REMOVING THE MASSAGE MECHANISM 1. Power off the chair and unplug it. Backrest release lever 2. Press the backrest release lever to release the backrest, then fold it forward onto the seat (Fig.1). REMOVE THE POWER PANEL 1. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the two screws located at the top of the power panel (Fig.2). (Fig.1) 2. Pull the power panel out of the backrest, then disconnect the two sets of connectors (Fig.3). 3. Cut the zip ties that secure the backrest upholstery zippers, then open the zippers. 4. Feed the power panel, power cord, and remote through the opening in the backrest upholstery to free them from the chair (Fig.4). Using a Phillips-head screwdriver remove the screw that secures the green-and-yellow ground wire to the chair frame (Fig.5). 6. Remove the power panel, power cord, and remote from the chair and set them aside. (Fig.5) REMOVE THE PCB BOX 1. Using two hands, pull the bottom of the backrest upholstery down and then out, to clear the backrest release lever, then fold it up over the top of the backrest (Fig.6). 2. Using a wire cutter, locate the zip tie that secures the cables inside the power panel cavity, then cut the zip tie (Fig.7). 3. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the two screws that secure the PCB box to the left-hand side of the chair frame (Fig.8). Backrest upholstery Cut the zip ties (Fig.6) (Fig.7) (Fig.8) 2 4. Take the PCB box out of the backrest and set it on top of the chair frame (Fig.9). 5. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the four screws that secure the corners of the PCB box, then remove the PCB box cover (Fig.10). 6. Cut all of the zip ties that secure the PCB connectors, then disconnect all connectors other than the two shown. IMPORTANT: Note the position of the zip ties, as you will need to replace them when installing the new massage mechanism (Fig.11). PCB box PCB box (Fig.9) (Fig.10) (Fig.11) 3 REMOVE THE MASSAGE MECHANISM 1. At the bottom of the massage mechanism, pull all of the cables through the bracket that routes them up the left-hand side of the massage mechanism. IMPORTANT: Note how the cables are routed as you will need to route the new cables in the same manner. 2. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the ten screws that secure the massage mechanism to the chair frame (Fig.12). 3. Pull the massage mechanism up and out of the backrest and set it on the chair frame. 4. Pull the massage mechanism cables the rest of the way out of the chair frame, then remove the massage mechanism from the chair (Fig.12). IMPORTANT: Note how the cables are routed as you will need to route the new cables in the same manner. Massage Mechanism (Fig.12) (Fig.13) 4 INSTALLING THE NEW MASSAGE MECHANISM To reinstall the new massage mechanism, perform the previous procedure in reverse. SECURE THE NEW MASSAGE MECHANISM 1. Place the new massage mechanism on top of the backrest, close to the position in which you will install it. 2. Re-route the massage mechanism cables through the chair frame and up the left-hand side of the massage mechanism cavity, in the same way they were originally routed. 3. Place the massage mechanism into position inside the backrest, then replace the ten screws to secure it. Cable harness PCB box REINSTALL THE PCB BOX 1. Place the PCB box (base) on top of the backrest, close to the position in which you will install it. 2. Connect each of the new massage mechanism connectors to the corresponding connector on the PCB. 3. Install new zip ties to secure the cables in the same locates as they were previously. 4. Align the four cable harnesses in the four cable guides at the bottom edge of the PCB box, then replace the PCB box cover (Fig.14). 5. Secure the PCB box cover using the four small screws you removed earlier. 6. Place the PCB box into the backrest, then replace the two screws to secure it to the chair frame. 7. Install a new zip tie to secure the PCB box cables inside the power panel cavity, as they were previously. (Fig.14) REATTACH THE BACKREST UPHOLSTERY AND REINSTALL THE POWER PANEL 1. Pull the backrest upholstery down into position. 2. Feed the connector side of the power panel, power cord, and remote cables through the backrest upholstery. 3. Place the power panel on top of the backrest, close to the position in which you will install it. 4. Reattach the yellow-and-green ground wire to the chair frame, using the screw you removed previously. 5. Reattach the two power panel connectors to the corresponding backrest connectors. 6. Place the power panel into position, then replace the two screws to secure it. 7. Close the backrest upholstery zippers, then use a new zip tie to secure them together.
