Reprocessing steps For KaVo handpieces and turbines with KaVo products For your protection and to enable your KaVo instruments to retain their value Preparation / instructions Automated external and internal disinfection To minimise the risk of infection during reprocessing, always wear protective gloves. ! Q ! To protect members of the practice team, wipe the exterior of all instruments with approved disinfectant, directly after clinical use. KaVo recommends washer-disinfectors (CDDs) in compliance with EN ISO 15883, which are operated using alkaline cleaning agents having a maximum pH value of 10 (e.g. Miele G 7781/7881). This requires that the target KaVo product bears the recognised washer-disinfection symbol. Remove the handpiece from the motor’s E-Fitting or turbine from its tubing or MULTIflex coupling. * Note: This recommendation is limited to the compatibility of materials with KaVo products. Remove the bur from the chuck system. IMPORTANT: Directly after each automated reprocessing cycle in a thermodisinfector, treat the instruments and turbines with KaVo care products. Instruments featuring exchangeable heads: Remove the head from the shank for separate care. Speed-increasing contra-angle handpieces (red coloured rings) and MULTIflex turbines: It is generally not possible to remove the heads Surgical instruments: Some of these are designed to be disassembled for cleaning and care. (Please observe individual instructions for use). 3. Care Manual care KaVo Spray 2112 A Lubrication & cleaning care for the instruments, heads and turbines after each automated disinfection cycle in a thermodisinfector and before each sterilisation cycle in an autoclave. Even if there is no hygienic preparation of instrumentation prior to use, it is still essential to flush the instruments, heads and turbines twice daily for one second with KaVo Spray oil. (see also point 2 – cleaning) Once per week, clean the chuck of instruments and turbines with KaVo Spray, utilising the conical nozzle attachment. Generally speaking, do not place KaVo instruments and turbines in disinfectant solutions or clean them in ultrasonic devices. Automated internal cleaning and care (3 KaVo devices) KaVo SPRAYrotor 2103 N 1. Cleaning Place instruments on the INTRA attachment and turbines on the MULTIflex attachment of the SPRAYrotor, and press the care button for a few seconds. When cleaning INTRA heads separately, use the special SPRAYrotor attachment for heads. (For details, see the SPRAYrotor instructions for use). Manual, external cleaning Brush instruments and turbines under running tap water. Never immerse in cleaning solution or ultrasonic device. KaVo QUATTROcare PLUS 2124 A Program-controlled care with the KaVo QUATTROcare, ensures optimum care quality and maintains the performance and value of instruments and turbines: Place instruments onto the INTRA care coupling and turbines onto the MULTIflex care coupling of the QUATTROcare device. When cleaning INTRA heads separately, use the head care coupling. Close the front flap, and start the fully automated care program by pressing the Start Key. Wipe off any excess oil from instruments after the care cycle has finished and remove them from the device (For details, see the QUATTROcare instructions for use). Manual internal cleaning KaVo CLEANspray Spray 2110: Manual, intensive, internal cleaning of slow speed, straight and contra-angle handpieces, plus high speed turbines. Mount the relevant spray nozzle onto the CLEANspray can. Attach each handpiece and turbine in turn, onto the spray nozzle and activate spray with three, two-second bursts. Remove the handpiece from the nozzle and let the cleaning agent work for 1 minute, before drying with KaVo DRYspray. KaVo QUATTROcare CLEAN 2140 A KaVo DRYspray Spray 2117: Used to subsequently dry the gears and bearings, plus the air and water media channels. Mount the relevant spray nozzle onto the DRYspray can. Attach each handpiece anzd turbine in turn, onto the spray nozzle and activate spray with a single, 3 to 5 second burst. Validated internal cleaning by means of water vapor and KaVo QUATTROclean cleaning additive meets requirements for and safe removal of proteins. The service is performed by using the new KaVo QUATTROoil. 4 service slots and 4 programs to choose special accessoires: adapter for internal cleaning of ultrasonic trips and external spraytubes of surgical instruments.(Details pleas see instruction for use) Automated external and internal cleaning KaVo recommends washer-disinfectors (CDDs) in compliance with EN ISO 15883, which are operated using alkaline cleaning agents having a maximum pH value of 10 (e.g. Miele G 7781/7881). This requires that the target KaVo product bears the recognised washer-disinfection symbol. Note: This recommendation is limited to the compatibility of materials with KaVo products. Proof of validation of the procedure, is the responsibility of the manufacturer of the cleaning and disinfection device. 4. Sterilisation KaVo products bearing the sterilisation symbol, can be sterilised in steam sterilisers (autoclaves), as per EN 13060/ISO 17665-1 and have a maximum temperature stability of up to 138°C. MULTIflex couplings cannot be sterilised. 2. Disinfection Manual external disinfection Sterilisation parameters: Wipe disinfect the instruments and turbines with one of the approved disinfectants: • Mikrozid AF By Schülke & Mayr (liquid or pads) • FD 322 by Dürr • MinutenWipes by ALPRO Spray the disinfectant onto a clean cloth, and wipe the exterior casing of the instrument or turbine. Allow the disinfectant sufficient time to work, as specified by the disinfectant manufacturer. Depending on the available autoclave, select a suitable protocol from the following sterilisation protocols. • Autoclave with triple pre-vacuum cycle: at least 3 minutes at 134°C [- 1°C / + 4°C] (273°F [- 1.6°F / + 7.4°F]) • Autoclave using the downward displacement, gravitation method: at least 10 minutes at 134°C [- 1°C / + 4°C] (273°F [- 1.6°F / + 7.4°F]) alternatively: at least 60 minutes at 121°C [- 1°C / + 4°C] ** (273°F [- 1.6°F / + 7.4°F]) ** Turbines with fixed connection: at least 90 minutes at 121°C [- 1°C / + 4°C] (273°F [- 1.6°F / + 7.4°F]) Manual internal disinfection The efficacy of manual internal disinfection, must be demonstrated by the manufacturer of the disinfection agent. With KaVo products, use only disinfection agents that have been listed by KaVo, with respect to the compatibility of materials. Immediately following internal disinfection, lubricate the KaVo product with recommended care agents from the KaVo care system. (Observe the areas of application provided by the respective autoclave manufacturer) Mat.-Nr. 1.007.3836 04/13 EU/en Using the products again Directly prior to providing treatment, place instruments and turbines onto their respective tubing connections. Activate handpiece and let it run for a few seconds. Wipe off any excess care oil that may exit the instrument and check for security of bur, correct performance of coolant spray and smooth running.
