Remove Styrofoam and plastic •  from paper and boxes. Place recycling bags in a •  convenient location near your kitchen. Recycling will become an easy part of your routine. 2 Bag It Containers go into one bag. •  Paper and cardboard in the •  other. Carboard can also be broken down and bundled into 2ft x 2ft x 1ft piles. 3 On Recycling Day, Put It Out •  Check the collection schedule for your Area. NOTE: The Town only accepts plastic containers with these symbols PETE HDPE V LDPE PP PS OTHER Recycling: What goes in PAPER products, such as: Newspapers & Printer Paper Paper Towel/Toilet Paper Rolls Flyers/Junk Mail Pizza Boxes (take-out/frozen) Magazines & Catalogues Food Boxes: cereal, crackers, frozen foods, etc. Books (remove hardcovers) Envelopes (remove plastic) Boxboard Corrugated Cardboard Shoe Boxes Notepads & Exercise Books Egg Cartons Paper Bags CONTAINERS—aluminum, tin, plastic, gable top, tetra pack, such as: Milk & Juice Cartons Cat & Dog Food Cans Plastic Water & Pop Bottles Pie Plates & Baking Trays Plastic Liquor Bottles Plastic Fruit, Veg & Sandwich Trays Pop & Beer Cans Margarine, Ice Cream & Yogurt Containers Plastic Ketchup, Mustard, & Relish Bottles Food Cans Plastic Cleaning Supply Bottles Shampoo, Soap, & Detergent Bottles Bleach Bottles Recycling: What stays out Some items may appear to be recyclable, but are not. The list includes: Plastic/Film Wrap Motor Oil Containers Styrofoam/Foam Trays Kitty Litter Glass Cloth/Clothing Plastic Bags Gift Wrap Used Propane Containers Kids Toys Aerosol & Paint Cans Disposable Coffee/Drink Cups Tissues Plastic Baskets & Storage Containers Diapers Syringes Waste Collection Reminders & Rules • Regular household garbage and recycling must be placed curbside on the scheduled collection day, not earlier than 6:00 a.m. and no later than 7:30 a.m. Uncollected waste must be removed no later than 7:00 p.m. • Regular garbage will continue to be collected weekly, recycling will be collected bi-weekly as per the collection schedule. • Regular household garbage must be completely covered by an approved container. Tarps are blankets are not permitted. • Paper and containers for recycling must be separated and placed in clear blue bags. • Garden waste must be placed in clear bags. • Each waste bag must weigh less than 40 pounds. • Nothing sharp or dangerous should protrude from the bags. Bags should not be placed on snowbanks, as they can be difficult for •  collectors to reach. Bulk Garbage Pick Up Appointment Program The Town of Conception Bay South has year-round Bulk Garbage Collection for residential properties by appointment only. Bulk Garbage DropOff Program The Town will continue the Bulk Waste Drop-off Program open to ALL residents in the parking lot behind the Conception Bay South Recreation Complex, Long Pond in 2017. The drop-off program schedule will be posted annually. Bins will be open starting at 8:30 a.m. on each scheduled day and will be removed when full. Garbage will NOT be accepted after the bins have all been filled. In order to ensure the success of this service, residents are asked to use the bins in their respective ward, on the designated day for that ward. Residents are also asked to co-operate and abide by the following conditions: 1. Residents of the various wards are asked to use the bins on the day designated for that ward. Identification may be required. 2. Any mess made by residents during OFF loading must be cleaned up. 3. All garbage must be household garbage (i.e. chesterfields, TV’s, carpet, etc.) that is not picked up by the regular waste collection service. 4. This service is for residents only and businesses will not be permitted to use the service. 5. Materials from contractors or construction and demolition projects will not be accepted at these sites. 6. Tires, Propane Tanks or Hazardous Waste will NOT be accepted. All hazardous waste has to be taken to the City of St. John’s Landfill site. You may contact them at 576-8184 for further information on dates and times or contact MMSB at 753-0948. Accepted Bulk Items Normal household bulk will be collected. Sample of items accepted: • • Furniture Fridges • • • • Stoves Appliances Bicycles Mattresses Bulk Items Not Accepted Car wrecks, parts, frames, •  engines • Construction debris • Tires • Automotive batteries or tires • Propane tanks •  azardous materials, such as H ammonia, acids, oils, paints and paint cans, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, etc. • Discarded vehicle oil No tree limbs unless cut and •  bundled (Max. weight 50 lbs, max. length 4ft) • E arthen material, rocks, bricks, concrete, soil, etc. Animal feces, kitty litter, or •  • Asphalt shingles Items weighing more than •  animal carcasses or parts 300 lbs Some Go Green Tips Post your recycling calendar on your refrigerator, or some other place •  for easy reference. Use reusable shopping bags! As soon as you get the groceries put •  away, take your reusable shopping bags directly back out to your car. Composting is a great way to reduce waste and the resulting •  compost will enrich soil for your gardens and flower beds. Visit www.mmsb.nl.ca for more info.
