1 Introducing the LAC 1.1 Brief Overview The Leaf LAC is a standalone electronic module built into a small metal enclosure. It is a digital audio converter and is designed to convert either optical or coax digital audio (S/PDIF) or analog stereo line level audio to coaxial digital audio (S/PDIF) and line level stereo analog audio. Various functions of the LAC are selected by a set of DIP switches accessible from the lower surface of the metal housing, and need to be set before use. The LAC is required to be connected to a 12 V DC source. It may be “daisy chained” off an existing 12 V (2.1mm connector) power supply feeding an existing Leaf device or may be connected to a standalone power supply. The current consumption of the LAC is such that a up to 12 of them may be daisy chained from a single power supply if co located.
2 Connectors 2.1 Input Connectors
The input connectors are located on one of the long sides of the enclosure and consist of: 2x 2.1mm concentric power connector receptacles, one for incoming 12V power feed, the other for optional power extend to other units. Special DC power extend leads for this purpose will be available from Leaf Audio. 1 x female Toslink receptacle for connection of optical digital audio. 1 x female RCA connector for connection of coaxial digital audio. 1 x pair of female RCA connectors for connection of analog stereo line level audio. The RCA connectors are color coded orange for digital audio, white and red for analog stereo audio.

2.2 Output connectors
The output connectors are located on the opposite long side of the enclosure and consist of: 1 x female RCA connector for connection of coaxial digital audio. 1 x pair or female RCA connectors for connection of analog stereo line level audio. The RCA connectors are color coded orange for digital audio, white and red for analog stereo audio.
3 DIP Switch module A DIP (Dual Inline Parallel) switch module with 8 switches is accessible from the bottom of the LAC. These must be set to the required mode (Ref sect 4) before the LAC unit is used. The DIP switch module is labeled with switches number 1 to 8, left to right, and ON is when a switch lever is moved to the uppermost position.
This picture shows the DIP switch module set with switches 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 & 8 set to ON and switches 4 and 6 OFF as required for Normal Mode 1, with 44.1kHz sample rate. (Ref sect 4).

4.1 Analog audio out: important note The availability of stereo analog audio at these outputs is dependent on the digital audio input signal being of an S/PDIF compliant format from which 2 channel stereo analog audio can be decoded. Not all digital audio formats support this function. A suggested starting point is PCM 44.1Khz.

Startup Guide
The following steps are required to configure the LAC for use: Set the relevant DIP switches for the type of signal inputs and outputs that are to be connected. Connect the signal sources to the relevant input receptacle(s). Connect the signal output to the relevant output receptacle(s). Connect 12V DC power supply. The LAC is now ready for use.
