Creating a “Wembley” effect after mowing is also an advantage with regard to the aesthetics of sports fields, golf courses or parks. This effect is achieved by the rollers pushing the grass first in one direction and then in the opposite direction during cutting. The Falcon Rollermower, Grassmulcher™, Blowermower™ and Finishing Mower all run on full-width rollers with domed end caps so that the rotary cutter achieves a “Wembley finish”, without any damage to the turf. The domed caps also make it possible for the operator to turn corners without lifting the mower.

The Falcon Rollermower is a low cost implement suitable for the maintenance of all turf areas from lawns to polo fields. It is designed to give a neat and even cut safely. The rollermower is available in cutting widths of 0,9 m, 1,2 m, 1,5 m and 1,8 m. An off-set hitch facility is standard on the F40 and F50 series and permits cutting up to boundary fences. The cutting height is adjustable from 0 to 100 mm, depending on the required finish. The range suits tractors rated between 10 and 60 kW. The range is fitted with a round, low-impact blade disc with four blades that swing through 360˚, except the F25/90RM, which has a triangular blade disc with three swinging blades.

The Falcon Grassmulcher™ is designed for one-pass maintenance of sports grounds and parks. It overcomes collection problems and is designed to give a perfect finish safely in public areas. The Grassmulcher™ is available in cutting widths of 1,2 m, 1,5 m and 1,8 m. An off-set hitch facility is standard on the F50/150 and the F50/180 and permits cutting up to boundary fences. The cutting height is adjustable from 10 to 100 mm, depending on the required finish. The range suits tractors rated between 15 and 60 kW. The cutting chamber is fully enclosed and designed to recycle and recut the grass to leave a mulch spread the full width of the implement. The cutting gear consists of a round, low-impact blade disc with four special cranked and lipped blades that swing through 360˚. This system ensures that the blades remain perfectly horizontal at all times, avoiding scalping when the speed of the cutting disc is slow. The Falcon Blowermower™ cuts and collects grass in one operation, and the cuttings are then blown into a strong reusable bag. If preferred, the bag may be left off, and the cut grass is then spread evenly from the chute. It is a very safe implement to use in public areas, as the cutting gear is completely enclosed. The range offers 0,9 m, 1,2 m and 1,5 m cutting widths with an adjustable cutting height of 0 to 100 mm. This range suits tractors rated between 10 and 60 kW. The range is fitted with round, low-impact blade disc with high-flow discharge characteristics. Each disc has four special blades which cut the grass and blow it into the bag, leaving a clean cut in all conditions.

It is essential that you adhere to the steps listed below. To ignore them will shorten the life of your Falcon implement and result in unnecessary expense.

1. FILL THE GEARBOX WITH OIL TO THE CORRECT LEVEL Fill the gearbox to the correct level with good-quality gearbox oil. We recommend Fuchs Renep 1000, but EP90 can be used for topping up. The Falcon F50 series gearbox is fitted with a dipstick and should be filled to the mark on the dipstick. Ensure that the breather hole on the F50 gearbox is kept clean to avoid blockages. The breather hole is located on top of the dipstick.

Verwys dus asseblief na daardie handleiding (veral bladsye 39 en 97–100) voordat u die as sny. Voordat u, u trekker/Falcon-kombinasie gebruik, verseker dat die trekker se hidrouliese 3-punt-koppelbeheer-hefboom op die regte hoogte ingestel is, sodat die Falcon-implement nie te hoog opgelig word nie, aangesien dit die kragaftakkeras sal beskadig. The F25 and F40 series cast-iron gearboxes used on the light- and medium-duty implements have a filler plug and a level plug. Open both plugs and fill until the oil runs out of the level plug. DO NOT overfill, as this can cause overheating and damage to seals. 2. CHECK THAT THE PTO SHAFT IS CORRECTLY SUITED TO YOUR TRACTOR The PTO shaft may have to be cut to the correct length to suit your tractor/Falcon combination. If the shaft is cut too short and there is too little overlap the shaft may vibrate, break or tear open, resulting in possible damage to the implement and tractor and injury to the operator. If the shaft is too long, it can result in serious damage to your tractor, the mower, or the PTO shaft when the implement is either raised or lowered. The process of cutting the PTO and the calculation to establish the correct length are clearly described in the PTO manual. So please refer to this handbook before cutting the PTO shaft, especially pages 39 and 97-100. Before using your tractor/Falcon combination ensure that the tractor hydraulic 3 point linkage control lever is set to the correct height setting in order not to pick up the Falcon implement too high as this will result in damage to the PTO shaft. Ensure that the PTO guard is in good order at all times. 3. GREASE BOTH UNIVERSAL CROSSES OF THE PTO SHAFT The PTO shaft can not operate without grease! It is essential that the two crosses of the shaft are fully greased initially and kept greased thereafter. Ensure that the grease pushes out of all four cups, of each cross, every time it is greased. Also grease the two sliding tubes.

4. STEL DIE GLYKOPPELAAR TOT DIE KORREKTE WRINGKRAG Alle Falcon Grassnyers is met ‘n glykoppelaar toegerus. Dit is tot die korrekte wringkrag gestel, sodat dit onder oormatige ladings kan gly en jou implement teen permanente meganiese skade kan beskerm. Indien dit vir lang periodes oorlaai word, sal die glykoppelaar gly en oortollige hitte weens wrywing genereer. Tekens van oormatige gly is rook, brandreuke of poeierreste in die omgewing van die glykoppelaar, of verkleuring van die glykoppelaareenheid. Onder normale werkstoestande moet die temperatuur van die glykoppelaareenheid dus nie warmer wees as die temperatuur van die implement se ratkas nie.
When overhauling the slip-clutch, be sure to use only original parts as listed on page 43 of this manual. Apply the spring pre-load settings indicated in the table below, to ensure accurate adjustment. Tighten each retaining nut successively by one half-turn, until the relevant setting is achieved.

If overloaded for sustained periods, the slip-clutch will slip and generate excess heat through friction. Excessive slipping may be detected through smoke, burning odours or powder residues in the vicinity of the slip-clutch, or discoloration of the slip-clutch assembly. So, under normal operating conditions the slip-clutch assembly temperature should not exceed that of the temperature of the implement’s gearbox. The slip-clutch may need to be overhauled in the event of the following: • the friction plates are worn or burned out due to sustained overloading, • the slip-clutch mechanism has become contaminated by grease, oil or diesel, or • the implement has stood for an extended period, increasing the likelihood of corrosion in the slip-clutch mechanism.

4. ADJUST THE SLIP-CLUTCH TO THE CORRECT TORQUE All Falcon Mowers are fitted with a slip-clutch. The clutch is required to slip under excessive load at a specific pre-set torque, in order to prevent permanent mechanical damage to the implement.

All Falcon Mowers are designed to run at 540 rpm. The mower should be raised above the material that is to be cut and then the tractor PTO is to be engaged. Once engaged, the rpm should be increased to 540 rpm and then maintained at that level while cutting. Failing to do this will increase the torque levels on both the tractor and the mower, resulting in a shorter slip clutch life. 5. ADJUST THE TRACTOR TOP-LINK TO THE CORRECT LENGTH It is important to adjust your tractor top link so that the implements topmast is in the vertical position when the implement is resting on level ground. This will allow the implement to run on its full skid runner length, ensuring a uniform cutting height when running over uneven ground.

This will also help to ensure that the PTO shaft does not come into contact with the front of the implement when in the raised position. However, should the PTO shaft still touch the implement, limit the height by setting the stop on the hydraulic control level. 6. CHECK AND TIGHTEN ALL BOLTS Check that all bolts are fully tightened before use and then again after the first few hours of use. It is very important that the bolts on the cutting gear are checked and tightened frequently. 7. CHECK THAT THE DUST COVER OVER THE OUTPUT SHAFTS IS IN THE CORRECT POSITION (Fitted on the F50) It is essential that the cover under your gearbox is in the correct position. This is to ensure that grass, twine or wire does not wrap around the base of the output shaft and damage the lower oil seals of the gearbox. Damage to these seals could drain the gearbox oil. The two bolts securing this dust cover under your Falcon Mower should be checked and tightened if necessary. The dust cover should be positioned as low as possible and should cover the flange of the gearbox’s output shaft completely. 8. TAKE NOTE OF THE SAFETY RULES Please instruct your driver to adhere to the following rules: • Do not get off the tractor while it is running and ensure that the tractor is turned off before making adjustments. • When working under the implement, changing the blades or tightening the bolts, the frame should be lowered on to a stand or a prop on the ground. • Be aware of any obstruction such as stumps, stones, bottles, tins, etc. Remove these from the field before commencing work or at least avoid them. • Discourage spectators and never carry passengers. Remember, it is possible that small stones can fly out at high speed. These projectiles can cause serious injury. • Do not allow anyone to walk near the mower while it is in operation. • Operate the tractor in such a way that you establish and maintain the optimum PTO speed of approximately 540 rpm. Too low a speed will overload the drive shaft system. Too high a PTO speed will make the operation dangerous. • Do not allow anyone to put their hands or feet under the mower while the tractor is running. • Do not remove the protective covers around the PTO shaft or flaps provided on the implement. • Do not subject the topmast chains to excessive strain by transporting the implement at high speeds over rough ground. Inspect the chains and shackles regularly and replace if worn. Use only chains and shackles of the correct specification.

Maak hulle gereeld met ’n hoekslyper skerp of vervang hulle as hulle te ver afgeslyt het. GEREELDE KONTROLES • Kontroleer dat die glykoppelaar op die korrekte spanning gestel is en verstel indien nodig. • Kontroleer rollers en rollerglystukke vir skade en vervang indien nodig. • Enige roesmerkies wat dalk verskyn het, moet skoongemaak en opgeknap word. Onthou, u het die beste implement op die mark gekoop. Met korrekte gebruik en behoorlike instandhouding sal dit u jare se uitstekende diens gee.

Checking the bolts and nuts on the cutting gear is particularly important. • Check the level of the gearbox oil and top up to the correct level. Check for gearbox oil leaks. It should be noted that no guarantee claim can be submitted on a gearbox that has run dry. It is thus essential that the gearbox is kept correctly filled with oil. • Grease the PTO shaft. • Check that the two bolts holding the slip-clutch are tight, as a loose slip-clutch will eventually cause the input shaft to break off. • Check the wear on the blades. Sharpen them routinely with an angle grinder or replace when they are worn down too far. We recommend that you keep at least two sets of blades, bolts, nuts and bushes as spares for your Falcon Mower. Make sure that the cutting gear is balanced, ie that blades and blade beams have similar wear patterns and weigh the same. In order to ensure safety, it is recommended that new bolts and nuts are fitted each time when changing the blades. NOTE: Vibration is the main cause of structural failure and excessive bearing wear on mowers. 2. REGULAR CHECKS • Check that the slip-clutch is set to the correct tension and adjust accordingly if not. • Check the rollers and the roller skid plates for damages and replace if necessary. • Clean down and touch up any rust spots that may have appeared Remember, you have purchased the best implement on the market. With the correct operation and proper maintenance, it will give you years of excellent service.

To safeguard you against material and/or manufacturing defects, or even incorrect assembly, every Falcon implement is carefully inspected before it leaves the Falcon factory.
