Shared Folder Snapshot 1. Take a snapshot of shared folders up to every 5 minutes. 2. View snapshot data in all file services or File Station, or by clicking the Previous Versions tab in the Properties dialogue box in File Explorer on Windows PC. 3. Increase the maximum snapshot versions of a shared folder to 1024 for all currently available models (except for DS216+ on which the number is limited to 256). 4. Supports shared folders located on Btrfs volumes. Shared Folder & LUN Replication 1. Replicate your data in shared folders and iSCSI LUNs from one server to another by taking and sending a snapshot to the remote server. 2. Extend a replication by replicating data from a destination server to another secondary destination server to make multiple copies of your data. 3. Replicate one shared folder or iSCSI LUN to up to 3 destination servers from the same source server. 4. Limit the maximum number of replication tasks to 64. 5. Statistics of transferred size and sync duration are recorded and displayed as a report. 6. Allows administrator users to export the replicated data to external devices, and then deliver and import it to the recovery site, reducing bandwidth usage in your production environment. 7. Provides an overview topology to show how your replicas are stored. 8. Supports port forwarding by customizing address and port of a replication task. 9. After performing a failover, you can perform a re-​protect action to sync data on two servers again. 5. When performing a re​-protect action, you can choose either of the servers to sync data from and choose the new source server for the replication task. Only the differential blocks of data are retained among each version, allowing file history to be maintained with better storage efficiency. Shared Folders with Windows ACL Permissions The access permissions of shared folders are based on Windows ACL, allowing you to fine-tune permissions beyond just Read Only, Read/Write, No Access. Newly created shared folders implement the permission settings of Windows ACL. For shared folders created in DSM 4.3 or earlier, you can either convert the existing permissions to Windows ACL, or leave the permission unchanged. The shared folders - photo, surveillance, and shares on external storage or volume with ext3 file system cannot use Windows ACL permissions. 6. Storage Manager New overview displays the overall health of all disks and volumes, as well as hard disk utilization, volume, and iSCSI LUN usage. Disk health information includes the current and historical health of hard disks 7. SSD Cache Read/Write cache is supported. Snapshot Manager Synology Snapshot Manager software plugin available on vSphere and Windows Server environments to create application-consistent snapshots in DSM. For VMware environments, you can install Synology Snapshot Manager for VMware vCenter Server on Windows Server. After installation, when a snapshot is triggered on DSM, vCenter Server will be notified and flush all the data from memory to the LUN to guarantee data consistency. Once the snapshot is complete, vCenter Server will resume normal I/O operation of VMware datastore. For Windows environment, you can install Synology Snapshot Manager for Windows Server. After installation, when a snapshot is triggered on DSM, Synology Snapshot Manager will use the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) technology to produce consistent point-in-time copies of data. Synology Snapshot Manager for Windows Server also supports performing snapshots when triggered by 3rd party software via VSS. Synology Snapshot Manager for VMware vCenter Server supports vSphere 5.1 or later, and vSphere web client server plugin is required for application interface. Trust Domain Support in Active Directory Users and groups belonging to trusted domains can be assigned privileges to access files or run applications after your DiskStation joins a Windows domain. You can specify how often the DiskStation automatically updates the domain user/group list. 2. Broader LDAP Client Support Your DiskStation can now join an LDAP domain hosted by IBM Domino LDAP Server 8.5. If you use a different LDAP server with different attributes for account names and group names, there are now options to specify or customize how user and group information is mapped to LDAP attributes. 3. NFS NFS v4 support has been added, including pseudo file system and a stateful protocol. NFS v3 and v4 now support IPv6. If Kerberos security flavor is implemented, you can map the NFS client to a local user, a domain user or a LDAP user. Additional NFS settings have been added for NFS v3 and NFS v4, such as default read and write packet size, or allow clients to access NFS servers with insecure, non-privileged ports. 4. Speed Limit Scheduler Bandwidth speed limits can now be configured according to a schedule, so speed limits will take effect at specific times only. Varying speed limits can be customized for each user and group, allowing you to implement different limits at different times. 5. Task Scheduler When creating tasks to automatically empty recycle bins, you can now define a retention policy to control what files are permanently deleted according to time, size, or file types. 6. Self-service Password Recovery System admins can allow DSM local users (and LDAP users on Synology Directory Server) to conveniently reset passwords via email. 7. HFS+ Support HFS+ External drives are supported in DSM 4.3. Read only is supported and the maximum volume size is 2TB. HFS+ journal is not supported. 8. File Station You can now create links to share folders with non-DSM users. Users allowed to create sharing links can now be specified. The size of thumbnails can be changed. You can drag-n-drop files or folder to your desktop to download them easily. Supports Google Chrome browser only. 9. Advance Options for Windows File Service (SM B) The following advance options for Windows File Service (SMB) have been added: DirSort VFS module; Veto files (hide files according to specified criteria); symbolic links and wide links; MSDFS VFS module (allowing symbolic links to point to files or folders located on another server); save debug logs; and clear SMB cache files. 10. Package Center A default volume on which packages being installed can be specified, simplifying package installation. 11. Disk Usage Report You can easily remove duplicated files in the disk usage report. 12. 3G/4G USB Dongle Support A 3G/4G USB dongle can be plugged into your NAS, allowing it to connect to a mobile network. On DS213air or DiskStations with Wi-Fi dongle, you can share your 3G/4G Internet access with tablets and laptops wirelessly. See the link for supported 3G/4G USB dongles. 13. Wi-Fi Hotspot Enhancements Time-based Parental Control: Allows you to control when each client device connected to the DiskStation's local network can access the Internet. The feature are available on DS213air only. UPnP Internet Gateway: Enable UPnP service to allow your DiskStation to become a UPnP Internet Gateway device, so that devices that are connected to the local network of the DiskStation can configure port forwarding settings with UPnP. DSM Update You can change DSM update settings to always install the latest version of DSM and critical updates, or install critical updates only. 15. File System Check (FSCK) utility has been added. 16. Built-in VPN client now supports L2TP over IPSec connection. 17.
