How to Setup E-mail Alerts for Intel® Rapid Storage RAID Operating Systems: Windows 2008 Server & Windows 7 This guide provides step by step instructions showing how you can setup e-mail alerts for Intel Rapid Storage RAID, e.g. to alert you in case of a hard drive failure. Unfortunately, Intel® Rapid Storage RAID management software doesn’t offer the possibility to configure e-mail alerts. To get around this limitation, create a scheduled task that triggers an e-mail alert whenever a failure event is logged by Rapid Storage RAID. On a drive failure the RAID status will change to “degraded” and the Rapid storage RAID (more exactly: the service IAStorDataMgrSvc) will log an event to the Windows application protocol with ID "0" at warning level. Once you receive the e-mail alert, you will have to login to the server to analyse and troubleshoot the problem using the Intel® Rapid Storage management software. A failed drive may have to be exchanged then. Attention: Before setting up e-mail alerts, the Intel® Rapid Storage management software needs to be installed. Otherwise the RAID status is not monitored and no events are logged. This software is used also to configure or convert RAIDs as well as to rebuild a RAID after exchanging a hard drive. A drive that has been hot-swapped will be detected only after rescanning disks in Windows disk management. 1. Start "Task Scheduler" by clicking on Start -> Administrative Tools -> Task Scheduler 2. Under Actions, click on "Create Basic Task". Give the task a meaningful name such as "Intel RAID Monitor". Then click Next. 3. On "Task Trigger" screen, select "When a specific event is logged" and click Next 4. Under "When a Specific Event is Logged" screen, select "Application" in Log Dropdown, IAstorDataMgrSvc as Source ("IAANTmon" for Matrix RAID), and enter “0” in Event ID ("7202" for Matrix RAID) and click Next. 5. Under "Action" screen, select "Send an e-mail" and click Next 6. Under "Send an E-mail" screen, fill out From:, To:, Subject:, Text: and SMTP server:, then click Next 7. On the summary screen select „Open the Properties dialog for this task when I click Finish“ and click „Finish“. 8. On the properties screen for this task on the General tab mark „Run whether user is logged on or not“. 9. Go to the Triggers tab and click Edit. 10. In the Edit Trigger dialogue, mark “Custom” and click New Event Filter. 11. In the New Event Filter dialogue mark the event levels Warning and Error. Mark “By Source” and select “IAStorDataMgrSvc” from the drop-down list. Then click OK. To save the new settings the administrator credentials are required. Setting up e-mail alerts is finished now and you can close the task scheduler.
